Hey everyone,

We made it to the 6 builds that I wanted to get this GB started, so I've converted the thread into the GB thread. Hopefully we'll get a few more entrants on the way.

I'll try to get a badge going this week, unless anyone else is particularly keen to have a crack at it.

I've started to keep score of the models that we collectively rescue from the global 'Shelf of Doom'. Just a bit of fun :)

Rob - I don't remember that kit, I did have a go at the Matchbox Panzerjaeger IV at one time though, amongst many others.

Nice progress Theuns, I'm so glad to see these kits get rescued.

I've completed my Airfix figure, and moved on to a 54mm Norman Knight that I started at least 13 or 14 years ago.

Cheers

Tony

I think I've found my kit. This is a very bad StuG IV by Revell that was reboxed by Monogram in 1994. It was one of the very first Revell of Germany 1/72 scale armor kits that was also released in a Matchbox box. I got this while I was still stationed in Texas (1992-96) and was disappointed in it. It wasn't even as nice as old Esci StuG kits.

I've started it several times, but it is so much work and there are much better versions of this kit available that will build more easily. It's not worth the aftermarket necessary to bring it upto modern standards. Most of the non-metal bits on this kit were extra/unused parts off of better kits.

Here are my 2 projects that have both "stalled"

Hoping this GB will get them done!

1/48 Italeri MB 326K Impala and a 1/72 Zvesda ANT 5

It will be great to have you on board Theuns. I'm looking forward to that one. I've got a stack of 1/72 to build as Aussie ones sometime.

In an unashamed attempt to motivate and attract other participants, I show the following photo. It's an American Soldier gtom the American War of Independence, 54mm, Airfix.

A week or so ago this lay in the plastic container it had sat in for a decade, in parts apart from a couple of pieces that had been glued.

It's not great, but it's nearly done, just needs a weapon.

Anyone else want to dust of some cobwebs and clear some space on the shelf of doom ?

Cheers

G'day Tony

Put me down for an Italeri 1/48 MB 326k.

I have basically almost completed the airframe but now need to fill sand, prime ....all the stuff that I dont like.

It has been boxed for about a year or so, maybe commiting to a GB will force me to complete it LOL

Great theme and hopefully a motivator to finish on of the many started kits in my stash.

Only problem will be picking which one(s).....I'm in!

Rob - My oldest one is a Falcon vacform 1/32 Fokker DVIII that I started at Easter 1988. Since then, a Russian company called Avia released an injection molded one, which I bought, then sold, at a swap meet. The interior and wing is done, but given the standard of Wingnut Wings kits, I can only hope that they get around to it. I just can't bring myself to chcuk it.

Johnny - It would be great to have you on board if you can squeeze it in.

Cheers

I have many kits in this category, some decades (yes, more than 20 years) old. For instance, I built a Revell Ontos back in 1983, but over the years it was mishandled by my mom in my old bedroom. Around 1999-2000, I rescued it and a friend gave me a partially built one to disassemble and reconstruct my old kit. That was 2001 and I still haven't completed it.

Another was the final kit I started in college, a Tamiya M2 Bradley. It sat in a box partially built in my bedroom until I got it from my parents' home. It's still in the box and I graduated in 1987.

I've been thinking about running this GB for some time. The idea is that you can pull any incomplete model from your personal 'Shelf of Doom', and attempt to complete it, or at least make some progress on it during the GB period.

The definition of 'Shelf of Doom' is loose, and can vary from participant to participant. It just has to be a model you've set aside for a length of time, and now wish to complete it.

Crossovers and partially complete models would be allowed of course.

The GB would run from now until the end of February, to give you a chance to complete those 2016 builds that didn't quite make it.

It would be great to get a little of the history of the model, why it got parked, etc, to add some interest to the GB. If you planned it for a GB, but never finished it, include that too.

I'd like to get a few concurrent builds going, to generate some energy in the GB.

If it works, I'd like to make this an annual event. A badge will be available if you participate.
