tempestjohnny, lovely job on the Rufe.
regards,
Jack
TJ, that turned out stunning. I really like the paint work. It looks very very nice. Well done, Sir and congrats. Thanks for taking us along.
BK
On the bench:
A lot !! And I mean A LOT!!
2024 Kits on deck / in process / completed
14 / 5 / 2
Very nice tempestjohnny!
“Ya ya ya, unicorn papoi!”
Well I took it to the deadline but it's done
RG, tail dragger or not that kit is coming along nicely. And it's far too early to be criticising you work. It looks very good to me.
TJ, the Rufe is looking sharp. Looks like you are nearing the finish line.
RG. That is looking great
Finally getting some progress on the,Rufe
I finally started the fill/sand process. Things are not as dire as I had thought. Modelsvit's latest kits actually fit, but you just have to get those joints clean and square to minimize destroying surface details. I guess that's called modeling.

I propped up the model on it's beaching gear to check how level the wings were, and was initially alarmed that the tip floats were about 0.1" off. But the fault was traced to a wing root joint not being trimmed properly. When this was taken care of, the tip floats were pretty much even. Dry fitting really pays off.

I kind of hate the looks of the tail dragger beaching gear, as it looks out of place on a jet. If I can figure out a way to make them removable, I will do so. I don't want to make a sea base, as I don't think I can make it look good as you guys do. Plus I can't afford the display space.
Real G I have no idea if this is anywhere near accurate. Anyone know?
Don't look at me. I'm the last person you should ask regarding this. But, it looks like you're making progress.
Lots of great stuff going on in the GB, so I'd better get a move on!
The Beriev got some primer to prepare the interior for painting. I tried airbrushing Gunze's Mr. Leveling Thinner with Tamiya grey primer from the bottle and got good results.

The engine tubes also got painted up and have since been closed.

The instructions say to paint the interior gull grey and the seat head boxes tan. I have no idea if this is anywhere near accurate. Anyone know? Time to Google "Be-12 interior photos", since interior shots of the Be-10 are rare to non-existent. From what grainy b&w photos from the outside I have seen, the pilot's station looks to be a dark grey, but it could just be the film quality.
Rik, that is one, no, another stunning build. You Sir, have a talent for this and that is a fine example of awesome work. Well done, I am in awe.
Rik, another stunning build, these Italian designs do have a certain charm don't they.
Interesting write up, quite amazing this type was still flying post war.
RiK, that is another fine looking floater. I can see from the shots that your work is very nice, even exceptional. This one also is looking quite good.
I'm just taking it one GB at a time.
The way my camera reads, the white background messes with the RLM 74/75/76 scheme. I guess it doesn't like the fairly similar dark colors, but what you see is not a good represntation of how it looks IRL. The colors have been lightened and muted in these, and I cannot for the life of me get a good photo of a subject in this scheme with my current setup on white.

On the Bench- Tamiya 1/48 Raiden, Rufe, Buffalo, He 162; Academy 1/72 F-89, Eduard 1/48 F6F-3, Accurate Miniatures 1/48 F3F-2, Minicraft 1/48 XF5F, Academy 1/35 Hetzer, Zvezda 1/35 KV-2 (Girls Und Panzer)
TheWaggish, I think that turned out great.
Not sure why the white background would be considered a problem, it really show off the model well, both in shape and it's colour.
Doc, the front page is updated with your entry. Can't wait to see it come together.
TheWaggishAmerican Finally got the Bf 109W-1 done. It looks better in real life, but I didn't notice until later that the pic's didn't come out good on a white background. It's not a great kit, and I don't really like how it came out, but... It's finally done.

RealG, glad to see you back at it. Your pit looks great, I love the added details like the wiring on the gauges. Nice touch.
Steve, RiK and RealG, all great work going on here!
Steve, your Mavis is amazing! RiK, I love all the unique kits you’re building as well as the excellent work. RealG I cannot wait to see this finished.
Brandon, I have decided on the Academy 1/72 PBY-5 (Yellow wing version) as my entry. After seeing the cool work Steve did on his 1/144 Mavis, I decided to switch it up a bit. I have to finish up my Gato, late of course for the Sub GB, before I can start. Hopefully this weekend I’ll post some pictures of this build.
Doc (the other Steve)
That is awesome news Brandon! I have not been modeling much due to other commitments, but I haven't forgot about the GB. Actually I have been quietly watching on the sidelines with envy.
So back to the bench!

The PE set I got for the Be-10 isn't helping much, so I used some of the instrument box faceplates to busy up the kit's blank side consoles. The interior can't really be seen when the model is closed up, so I don't think it's a big poblem.

The tail gunner's station had to be shimmed because the glass and gun turret ball are too wide. So some sheet styrene strip was glued onto one fuselage half, then trimmed to fit.

So the tape and rubber bands are slowly going away. I just have to paint the cockpit and intake/exhaust halves before I can finally close up the fuselage. Work should move much quicker after that.
Thank you BK, it was a fun GB.
Steve
Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Due to my schedule being so short of build time and others here in the build that are also stretched thin, I am officially extending this build out until further notice. Most likely till June of next year so we can all get our kits built up. Let the building continue.
Wow, Steve. I am in awe. That turned out AWESOME !! That one needs to go to a show. It still looks like it's 3 ft long. SO NICE. Well done.
I'm going to say the Mavis is done. I tried to get some rigging on it but at this scale it either looked too big or the rigging was to small for me to see. So here it is.
RiK, I love all these interesting kits you're building for us. They are very very cool. I noticed on this one that you did the rigging before you put the wings on. It looks like that would make it quite a bit easier to do. I will have to keep that in mind when I get another build that need rigging. Well done thus far, I'm excited to see the completed build.
Thanks RiK,
Yeah, I usually cut out plastic disks and spray prop blurs on them but at this scale they wouldn't look right. Your right though, nothing beats the actual spinning props.
Cheers BK and thanks.
Wow Steve, simply stunning. The spray is awesome. I still can't believe it is that small. IT looks SO BIG.
After applying the decals and a little weathering I attached the plane to the base and added some spray using cotton. I then sprayed Future to the cotton and will let that dry. I can then trim and form it a little more. I also added some more acrylic varnish to the water to deepen the look of the water. One of the wing decals broke while weathering but fortunately the kit come with extras.
