Stephan, which kit is that. The only ones i have seen are snap tite and pre coloured. Was this one of those and you painted over it.

It's the Revell kit, around 1/50 scale I think. It was precolored but I primed and repainted it

Steve - that is awesome! Love the water, and it's really cool to see especially since my grandfather's cousin was on the 16th plane in that raid.

Bish - great job on that Star Wars thingy. It looks nice.

Eagle - I like those I-16s. Funny little planes, but they packed a punch, it seems.

Theuns - Nice Spitfire. I love the ones in U.S. markings. And that timeframe...wow. I can't even finish a 1/72 kit in less than a month most of the time. I can't imagine something with an engine at that scale and doing it in less than 3 months.

Hi everyone , Sorry I haven't been in lately. There's been too much going on here lately, In between times, I have gotten some on the 65 Impala, and it's coming along nicely, I think. Like I said in the begining, I can't do both the Impala and the Chevelle. I would've liked to, but I knew that wasn't happening. The crossover Y pipe for the single exhaust gave me some problems. I tried stretch sprue first, but It wouldn't go right, then I thought some wire. well the only wire I had was way too thin. then I found some flex tubing I bought long ago at my LHS that was just the perfect size, and wire made gave it the right bends.

Anyway here are some pics. if I've duplicated any forgive me, its bee too long since I've posted before.

Thanks Greg. The Viper is coming along nicely. I have just been looking at the Mobius site, some nice looking kits there. Am i right in thinking your doing the original Viper and not the Mk II.

You are correct, Bish. It's the classic Colonial Viper from the original BSG series.

I was away for a couple of days and had a lot of catching up to do on the GB.  Lots of great stuff and I am really enjoying all the builds.

I have been able to move my build along a bit.  Had some issues with paint not sticking to the tracks but think I have it solved.  Had to use a two part epoxy to join the tracks together.  Anyway, I've started to do some weathering with a wash and some pigments but have a ways to go yet.  Also the upper and lower hulls are not attached yet so that I can finish highlighting the tracks.

For a really awkward looking tank it looks pretty good, Dave.

Ok, I have some updates, and I plan on finishing this one tonight (fingers crossed).

But this is a story of problems. First, when I went to install the prop, I realized the engine sits too deep in the colwing, and the prop hits either thecowling or the cowl machine guns. It should sit at least 2mm farther forward.

So as I lay in bed a couple nights ago thinking about that, I just got up, walked to the bench and broke the cowling off, then ripped off the engine. Because I keep telling myself all mistakes are worth fixing to have a final product I can enjoy.

So it looked like that.

Yesterday, I went home at lunch and laminated two pieces of 1mm Evergreen, then drilled a hole the same diameter as the one on the kit, lined them up and installed the engine.

Last night, I glued on the cowling, and didn't have any damage to the paint.

But then I went to add an enamel filter to a panel aft of the cowl flaps for some tonal variation, and it reagitated the Vallejo Chipping Medium I had previously applied (through an enamel paint, two acrylic gloss coats and an acrylic flat coat. Grr.)

So now I have to fix this today.

But I did get the landing gear all assembled, wing guns and pitot tube mounted and the aerial mast installed. So in abouthalf an hour I will hit the panel (I've already sanded it smooth) with some paint, then hopefully finish the weathering tonight with some exhaust stains and spattering on the underside, and maybe some chipping via colored pencil.

Ok, it's wrapped!

This is of course the 1/48 Hobbycraft French Hawk 75. It's out of the box except for the seat, which is a resin one I had lying around.

Colors are:

Tamiya Flat Brown
Model Master French Dark Blue Gray
Model Master French Khaki (the green on the topside)
Model Master French Light Blue Gray

The tricolor on the tail is Model Master Intermediate Blue, Insignia White and Insignia Red.

I used some Vallejo pigments, streaking effects and engine oil for weathering, along with Vallejo chipping fluid for the wing root (not the biggest fan, but it works when you get it spraying right). I also used oil dot filtering with some artists' oils and some ground up pastel chalks.

Thanks for having me inthis group build. I hope you like it. The top photo is fine for the front page.

What a fun GB and what awesome work!  Very inspiring everyone!

Well, I'm calling them done.  It was fun doing both at the same time.  If I'm honest, I'm not crazy about either kit (fit issues and lack of detail mostly), but they were fun and they turned out well I think.  First time I did an aircraft with skids!  Very cool looking on the shelf!  The I-16 is a perfect little plane to start my Russian WWII collection off with.  I'll be doing a Yak-3 next!  Hope you enjoy the pics!

Thanks Aaron for hosting the GB!  It was great!  Can't wait to see what your next one will be.

I painted my light blue parts with cobalt blue. Sorry, my pics are blurry!

Getting there. I should make some good progress this weekend.

Hey Bish, thank you sir! Yeah, they are pretty small.  I'm going to take a pic of them on the shelf.  They will be with 1/48 Stukas, 109, and a Do-335!  It is a funny site to see, especially next to the 335!

Hi Bobby, looks like a very good job on that pair of seasonal Ishaks.  Yes

--------------------------------

I'm at the painting stage on the 109f ...

After primer, I looked over for any final fixes.  The riveted strips that I scratch built on the wing roots need further attention.  The one on the fuselage was too prominent, so that need sanding down.

Main colours are blocked in.  Fuselage sides need mottling, and I need to create my own decals for both the rudder kill markings and the delivery codes - originally in black, but they were wiped off after delivery.

... and some further clean up on the exhausts:

Just some excess plastic needs removing between each stub.

regards,

Jack
