Here is the wingroot fit on the Tam spitty, a light sanding and it will be ready for paint. Only thin cement was needed, no filler.

The engine took about 90 min to assemble ready for paint.

Good progress for only 3 days work

In the meantime I painted all the bits for the engine mounds and firewall.

Some awesome work thus far everyone.  This is a fun GB to follow.  I have started on my Kfir but am also having issues getting pics. up.  I will post when I can.

The quality of my pix are rather poor as they are from my phone. My old camera only works well in natural light and I only have progress made after hours LOL.

What Kfir you building?

AMK 1/48 Kfir C2.  OOB with the exception of adding a few bombs from the spares box.  The kit only came with six MK-82s.  Just doesn't seem to be enough.......

These radiators really "look the part" with a bit of a pinwash

The rest of the engine assembly was a tad fiddly, (was the same on my P-51) but it looks nice.

I have yet to take any photos of my Stormtrooper figure, but so far I have airbrushed a primer coat on the figure (I normally skip this step, but since there are both resin and white metal parts, I saw the necessity), and the base, figure, and wooden items now have their base coats of paint applied.  I will be working through the flesh painting process next.  So far, so good!

An update on the Hornet. I sprayed the lower hull camo and added acrylic gel followed by a coat of artist acrylics to the base. I will be sanding the base and painting another thinned coat of blue which will be slightly lighter in color. This will add some contrast to the water and give the impression of below surface turbulence. I also ordered some 1/700 crew, which I hope will be here before the end of the month.

Modelcrazy, thanks for the tutoring on the sea.  Someday when I grow up maybe I can do that!

Theuns, you are storming right along, looks nice.

Here is my progress.

I unmasked the airframe after expending a large amount of Tamiya tape, paper, and a little bit of paint.  Airfix supplier decals for the black outline on the tail but that looked like something I would not do well so I masked and painted the tail yellow and black after painting and masking the bottom.  Then I did the upper colors.

Great progress everyone!  I am really enjoying watching that Spit come together!

Since my first build took me a lot less time than I anticipated, I decided to break out project number two...it is a Hawk Silly Surfer's repop "Beach Bunny Catchin' Rays"  for my daughter's shelf.  She is only three, and sees the models I've built for my son's shelf, and keeps asking me for a "frozen" model, and since I can't find any models from Disney's Frozen, I thought this would be the next best thing!

I didn’t have much time last night but did get to sand the base some and add another coat of acrylic gel. I apply this second coat of gel to form more of the waves and wake. Now I will repaint with a slightly lighter blue and see where I’m at after that dries.

JR: your Voyager is impressive!

MC: keep up the great work on the Hornet.

Theuns: progressing nicely with your Spit.

MrT: liking the RSOV so far.

And everyone else is also doing a bang up job! Yes

This is not the best quality pic but you can see the preshading (my hand was a tad shaky it seems lol)

I mixed sonme Tamiya blue with white and added a few drops of red to give it that Azure look that has a very slight "violett" tint. Difficult to see in the cell pic.

Next will be my mix of faded Mid stone and dark earth

Started last night this old MPC kit.  Man, does it bring back the memories of spending a Saturday night building it on the kitchen table.

Got the fueslage together and now the wings.  Fit is not as well as I remembered, then again, last time I built this kit was 1976, and all I was concerned about was getting it together fast enough to launch a topedo attack on the cat.

Been working on the Zvezda 109F-2 almost the two full weeks, so time to post some images.  I'm actually back dating to an F-1 to represent Werner Molders mount in late 1940.

There is quite a bit of small details to add, and a few to remove.  Will leave it to the photos, but if anyone has a question, just ask....

regards,

Jack

Howdy All,

Serious modeling skills being shared (not mine) on these builds, good reading.

Slow progress here, finally got all the needed primary paint week. No one in this town sells aritists oils or any hobby paint that isn't glitter or tempera!  So plans for trying some washes may not be accomplished.

Modified the rudder pedal box today so they look like rudder pedals instead of,  well look at the left one.  Still need some touchpaint.  Yes, I know I will never see those pedals once installed it was more of a modeling test.

Made of parts stick together with glue and made some progress detailing the engine but the call out paints seem a bit shiny.

I may do some more work tomorrow but house maintenance chores loom, we'll see.\\

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris. I also used artist oils and acrylic ink for my pin washes but recently have moved over to nornal water colours, the tipe they sell for the kids- those little blocks in a molded plastic case.

It is very cheap, you can mix almost any colour and it is also easy to remove the eccess ut like any wash it needs to go over a very gloss base, I use tamiya clear acrylic as my gloss.

I also dip the tip of my paintbrush in some dish wash soap when I start mixing the wash as it "thins" the paint and water and lets it flow better.

Give it a go, it reallt makes detail "pop"

Howdy Theuns,

Thanks for the tip!  I know of the paint kits you speak of, I pretty sure I can find them at WallyWorld!

Cheers

Cool, the nice thing with the water colours are that they remove so easly if it is not the effect you want :-)

I decided to preshade the top aswell, I usually do not but the nice rivet detail and shading might be enough to not need a pin wash.
I also usually do a light base colour all over then mask and do the darker colour but in this case I think it would hide the pre shading.

Theuns, that Spit is looking good!  Keep it up!

Chris, that 'cat is too!

Jack, I can't wait to see that pilot surrounded by fuselage!

As for the paint discussion, I use those craft acrylics, such as apple barrel brand, quite often.  The copper color on my voyager is from apple Barrel.  I don't usually use them for the main paint job, but for washes, and any other brush painted details, they do a great job.

The Beach Bunny is currently in her primer/base coat; all sub assemblies are assembled, and ready to be added to the main model.  Progress pics to come...

Got the wing seams and engine pylon seams filled and sanded. Getting the engine pods together.  Next up is making the little BUFF look like a flying machine and getting wings and tail surfaces attached and filled/sanded.  Will put up a couple of pics at that point.

Everything is assembled, filled, sanded, masked, and now some pre-shading.  As fickle as the canopy is on this kit, I decided to leave it off during the paint phase.  Made it easier to mask.

Jack, your work never ceases to amaze.
Did some more work on the base and Hornet. After I painted a few coats of varying colors on the base, I dry brushed to add the whitecaps. I’m going to use Poly-fil for the wake and bow wave.
The deck needs some touchup and then weathering.

Thank you Justin and Steve.  The Hornet and seascape are coming along great.

Actually, there is plenty nice working coming off the work benches here.  Just wonder what the FSM staff are up to, and the rest of the roster?   Only couple weeks to go ...

Jack

LOL, dont stress mate, it must be that Brittish Humor ;-)

Here in SA we have almost the same "dry humor", I think John Cleese is one of the funniest guys arround.

As for the Spitfire, the first setback with the kit - the decals are horrible! Hard ,brittle and some had to be pieced toghether as they broke up, I hope they dont silver under the matcoat.
