Howdy All,

Now that I have cleaned up the fireworks mess from last night, I started the build today by performing the ritualistic cleansing of all the parts. They are now airdrying.

Now waiting for the mail to deliver my needed paint colors. This is my first start in many many years so I have to rebuild the supplies from scratch!

Good luck to everyone on day one!

Cheers

Chris

i probably have enough building tools for 3 complete work stations plus additional tools and yet i find i can fit all the important building tools in a couple of bank check boxes.

Okay, As usual, I am probably bringing up the rear here, But I had  a few things to do today. The 283 engine was half of AMT'S 283/421Pontiac engine kit. I built the 283 with the cam, crankshalf, and flywheel. I know you can't see it, but I know its in there. I also cut the tranny off the 396 engine in this kit as the 283 came with a CAE in/out box. I never heard of them before, so all I know is they're for sprint cars. I googled it LOL

so anyway. here's the beginning pics

I guess it's my turn. I got pretty far with the Hornet, just a few fiddely bits to add to the hull then on to the island. The paint and water willtake the longest on this build.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Here are my builds for this. Will be done assembly line style.  One if the C models will be done in a trial paint scheme. Decals in back of pic.

Does anyone have a spare rear canopy piece for a Hasegawa 1/72 F-16?  One of them is missing. Thanks

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I started the TIE fighter yesterday. I really like this kit, very detailed, low part count. The Added PE will make a nice difference. I'm currently adding the PE to the cockpit and exterior. Pictures to follow of these additions.

Here are pictures of the sprues.

Command pod:

Solar Array Wing:

Second Solar Array Wing:

And the extra's:

Paragrafix PE and a resin 8x11 inch base of the Death Star:

I have some clear acrylic rod and clear styrene sheet coming so I can fabricate this TIE flying over the Death Star.

Thank you for looking!

I was visiting family for New Years and just got back last night so I've only been able to crack the box on my Dom R35. Anyway, here's the box and parts:

Hopefully I'll make some headway tonight!

Congrats Waynec!

You are the first person in 20+ years to get the quote! I found a dvd copy on Ebay two years ago it as even the correct region code.

Cheers

Well, I got started on the Revell Spec. For. TIE Fighter. I have some really nice pics to show you all. Unfortunately my photobucket account is giving me fits. Everytime i try to upload pics it takes me back to the login in screen then I start all over again. Rather frustrating. I will continue to build and take pics while working on this problem. When I do get it fixed expect a big blog with alot of pics.

Any suggestions on a free imaging site?

I got started on the 1/48 Hobbycraft French Hawk 75 on Sunday. Sprayed primer and then base coated with Model Master RLM 61, which seemed close enough to the green I have read the French painted these (I know there is a lot of discussion on interior colors, and no one seems to have the answer, but I felt like this was as close as anything, so i went with it).

To say the kit is basic is a bit of an understatement, so I decided to use the extra seat I have from my P-40B build, and I will do this one with the canopy closed so I don't go crazy trying to detail the cockpit.

I'm hoping to get he pit finished this evening.

I'm still waiting for my heater for my garage as it's too cold to paint at the moment so all my kits are on hold. Hopefully, I will get this 109 started by the weekend. And its still snowing. Enough already.

Just a little update on the 1/48 French Hawk 75.

I got the cockpit done last night. I'll be building this one with a closed canopy, so I didn't worry too much about the interior detail, as the seat will be mostly what is seen.

I was able to close the fuselage halves after this pic, and I'll work on the seams this evening. I left the seat out for now since I want to have space to work on the three-piece joint where the cockpit meets the fuselage halves.

snowing and icy roads skipped IPMS meeting. rear suspension is finished. it was annoying and i ended up drilling holes and adding wire "pins". cargo compartment is done except for the fiddly stuff.

OK you FSM Staffers, we're 4 days into the month and there is no proof of life!  What's up!

Out here in the hinterlands we are laboring away in John's Secret Workshop in Northern California.  The Airfix Meteor F.8 is not quite a Tamiya Standard kit, but I am having a lot of fun building it.  The difference so far is inconsequential.  It has more detail that the Tamiya F.1 and F.3 I just finished in many areas, especially the cockpit.

I have been trying to figure out how to add interest to the black cockpits of these airplanes.  This time I put on a basecoat of Alclad Aluminum ALC 101, covered that with a very thin layer of flat black enamel.  When that was set up I took a small Tamiya Q-Tip and rubbed the black off on areas I thought would be prone to wear and chipping, and followed that with an Alclad Matte clear coat.   Weight was added on the back side of the cockpit assembly, as suggested in the instructions.

I've also done most of the wing assembly.  The fits are great.

Howdy All,

(Tamiya F4F-4 in 1/48)

I am working to get photos linked (not a fan 'cloud' things but will Borg for this) small progress so far.  I have the cockpit and all other relevant bits chromate greened. Just dipped the clear parts in Future before going to bed, that is a first.

Slowly getting reaquainted with my airbrush and trying to improve the spray patterns achieved so far.

Found a shedload of detail photos online to help me paint up and maybe detail up the cockpit, firewall and gearwell. Have to go scrounge up some thin wire and very thin solder.

Cheers

You might try flickr.com , photo bucket has cut way back on free storage and got to be a PITA to work with. Flickr gives you a tremendous amount of free storage and isnt too difficult to figure out. Hope that helps.

Here is my Airfix 1/72 Sea Hurricaine. It is a REALLY simple little kit, extremely basic in the detail dept but with the framing on the canopy I dont think much will be visable in the pit anyway.

The kit supplies the rear bottom fuselage arrestor hook assemby that needs to be installed after you cut a big chunck out of the fuselage halves.

Sometimes it is just fun to build these "quick and cheap" builds :-)

I was too excited to wait until January to start..... slmost done with the Hs 126, but the struts broke and were different lengths, so I;m just sitting around waiting for an idea of how im going to fix it. I already cut down one that was too long, that helped a little, but both have snapped in at least two places! Will post pictures of the build when I can figure out how to upload the darn photos off the camera!

Have tohost pics on an off-site place, ie. Photo Bucket, Flkr, etc.  Then you can post from there.  Down at the bottom of the main forum page, a lot of threads on posting pics.

I managed to "wressle" the Hurricaine's fuselage and wings on last night with loads of effort and clamps...maybe it is just me but this kit is not the same as arifix's newer quality. No matter anyway as it was basically "free" with the swordfish I was actually after :-)

Nice work on the Spitty. Is the IP painted on?

I am busy with a 1/32 Revell Spit Mk2 and not liking it, I hope the Tamiya 1/32 Spit I will start soon will make up for it LOL

Hi All

I'm making some Headway on my 65 Impala. I think maybe doing the Impala Convertible first helped as they are the same chassis and running gear. Anyway here's a couple of pics of my progress so far. I was having a real hard time getting the paint to come out right when I used lacquer. I loive the way it looks, but it's tough to get right.

Wayne, You better watch those critters back there. they look mighty PO'd with each other. if they get to close they 'll destroy your tractor. That looks like it would be a cool kit to do. Every ones is coming along nicely. looking great guys

Anyway, here's the paint job, minus the clear coat

Lots of builds making progress, that's great.

More progress on the Airfix Meteor F.8 as well.  The fuselage was joined, that required reducing the width of the two gun magazine frames, the fuselage didn't want to close up around the cockpit until I took some material off.  I'm building it with the gun doors closed, but I wonder how well the guns would fit if a person were to choose to install them.  I can't see any way that the cockpit tub could be assembled with any less width.  Seam cleanup on the fuselage was very easy.

The wings were assembled and the horizontal stabilizers were installed.  No issues to report.  The wing was test fit to the fuselage and a gap was going to be possible there.  This was because the fuselage is a thin shell and the sides wanted to flex in along the gap over the wing.  I made a sprue spreader, a little oversize at first, and kept sanding it down a little until the fuselage would just fit between the upper wing roots.  Everybody seems happy now.

The engines have been partially assembled and painted.  I will do a wash on the inlet screens before I complete the assembly of the engines.

Wow! lots of fantastic progress on these builds!

Unfortunately, I will have to back out of this group build. I just found out my Father-in-Law has Cancer. He's a four hour trip from our home, so we will be traveling a lot and I don't expect to get any modeling done in the next month.

I would like to thank Aaron and the rest of the FSM staff for hosting this group build! There are a lot of diverse subject, should be a really fun finish to this GB! Good luck to all!
