Basic colours on....

I am doing this PBY as a "what if" maratime rescue" aircraft.

Masking the glazing on this was "fun" LOL

68GT I added your JU-88 build, is it 1/72 I assume?

Hey all,  Just catching up.  There's alotta work going on here.

Mawright - The interior work on the 410 looks great - and that paint scheme is a tough one to pull off with brushes and sponges - but it's looking good !

Theuns - It'll be great to see the Cat come together.  The B-17 was looking really good to my eyes.   The interior work was great !  I especially liked the wood effects you got on the tables.  I understand about the fit on some of those large parts though.  Those are some big, old, well used molds.  Hopefully we'll see it come together some time.  (Maybe if you did a "cut-away" model, you'd be able to show off the interior work and strategically cut into the areas that were giving you fit issues)

Keyda - Hope you're feeling better.

Tonka - The F-82 looks really nice at this point - nice smooth finish !  Either way you go - black or a nat metal finish - you've got a great base to work from.

B-1 - The C-130 looks pretty huge.  She's coming together nicely

68-GT - Looking at the painting diagram with the green/grey scheme, it makes me wonder why they chose to mold it in a plastic that would be better for a desert scheme.  (?)    It looks very nice anyway - and paint will cover it either way !

I started some of the scratch building that is needed to fill the cockpit of the Blenheim.  Here's where I am after a few hours of building this weekend.  The round seats, the IP, and the control stick are the kit parts.  The whole pilot seat and frame, and the seat back for the crewman were scratched from cut styrene card stock and rod.

After painting . . .

All I need is to apply the IP decal, add some foil harnesses, and maybe apply a wash before its all buttoned up.

Looks like you have quite aways to go with the 'cat.  I'm good with a little bending, we sure wouldn't want you to bail out on your own GB.  Stick around and finish her, it gets one off the "shelf of doom"

OK peeps, this B-17 is driving me absolutely mad and I am not in the mood for that these days. I am re=boxing it for future completion.

I dont have another unbuilt kit in the stach and being in between jobs I have no $ to buy another model :-(

I found a 1/72 Academy PBY Fat Cat that I started many years ago. I joined the fuselage and wings so it is past my own "rules" for this GB but heck I have to atleast build something for the GB I am hosting. If you guys are not happy with me breaking the rules I am more than happy to step asside and have one of you take over the hosting of this GB :-)

I have to say that if I knew before I started this kit what I know now I would not have started it atall :-(

Almost none of the interior setail I put in can be seen through the poor fitting windows anyway.

I am close to the point where I need to choose if I will continue with this build or not...I will maybe just do it to hang up in the kids room, not even waist decals on it.

You are in it this far, might as well finish and create a new classification of the "Shelf of Doom" - "Ceiling of Doom".  Love the 17's but will stay away from that one.

Keyda - Know the feeling, had the crud a week ago, was in bed for 3 days.  Went to work the next morning after it hit when I had so many people checking on me I couldn't get any rest/sleep.  Took me 3 hours to do a job that usually takes an hour.  Hit me on Thurs., and went to work Fri. and Mon., didn't feel halfway decent til Wed.  Get well. 

 

Ugh, it's horrible!  I don't know how you managed to make it to work.  I can barely function.  I've never felt so crappy for so long in my life!  It's highly contagious too.  Started with my daughter, then me, and last it got hubby.  It's been a very rough week around here.  I still can't stop coughing, or breathe out of my nose.

I suppose I have to look forward to the same thing, I have this kit in my stash. 

Sorry I haven't been contributing anything lately, I've been sick all week long.  I think I'm finally over the hump, and should slowly get better from here.  I will have to wait until the hacking cough subsides to even think about picking up small model pieces though.

If I could brush paint that nice, I wouldn't need an AB.  Mottling is great. 

The swab idea worked out for you.  Lot of people use a sponge when not able to spray that.

I sugest a GB with the theme of aircraft that has two or more propellers.

They can be driven by one of more engines each, being either piston or turboprop.

Any scale.

Okay folks, here's some newer pics of the ME410. Finally starting to look like an airplane. Since the AB needle got bent and is out of action, finishing the build with the brushes. Using the brushes and cotton swabs for the mottling. Any thoughts, does it seem like too much? First time adding this type of detail. Waiting for a set of landing gear from scale aircraft conversions in order to finish the bottom.

A few years back I built the Mono B-24D and had similar problems with the wing half nacelle area.  That was kinda early in my return to modeling so I just did the best I could to sand things even.

Since then I have seen (and used) a way for restoring raised panel lines with thinly stretched sprue:  Stretch some sprue to a fineness level to match the thickness of the raised panel line. lay down a film of liquid cement on the area that has lost detail, and lay the fine sprue acros that surface.  

I used long lengths of sprue and then cut them to length after the glue dried, but I'm sure there are other ways to skin that cat.

Love the Herc, starting to look like one now.

As for my B-17....the kit is now starting to show it;s age :-( Although it has stunning datail for the era, the fit of the parts now are becoming an issue. The wing top and bottom halves at the neccells are a very poor fit with loads of filling and sanding. Had it been scribed detail I would not have minded it much but all the detail is raised and I dont know how I will re-do that, I am not going to rescribe the whole model.

Also the windows fit to the inside of the fuse halves are dicey to say the least.

Interestingly the engineers who did this kit knew it will be a monster so they cleverly made the wings to just slot into the fuse, good idea, bit the wingroot fit is also poor.

I have reached a point with this build where it is starting to iritate me. and since my stach doesnt have another multi prop nor do I have a budget for one now, I am going to just complete this model as something I can hang in my kid's room. Nothing special or even noce looking.

I hate to "be beaten" by a model  but I am not going to stress about the final quality of this one to much ;-)

Got the big parts together, rescribed and now doing seam work.

Nice work on the Dornier and the B-17. Great detail in cockpit!

Got the black base coat on my F-82. Some seam work still to do. Now I can't decide to do the natural metal version or the all black night fighter...Hmm

Got the wing window and right side windows installed over the w/e, as well as finishing the seats/IP.  Will get a couple of pics up of that along with fuselage button up later this week.

Nice job guys!  Wishing I could get back to my bench.  Feels like it's been forever!  But I have a sick kid at home(fever and sore throat, nothing serious)and a frisky little puppy that I can't take my eyes off of.  Feel a bit of annoyance in my own throat as well.  I'll get back to it eventually.

Okay Gang,  This is the initial attempt to insert pics of the ME 410 I'm working on. This is my first attempt to really use an airbrush, so please feel free to provide any inputs/feedback that you may see appropriate.

Also any ideas on how to thoroughly clean an AB with minimal tools? I just picked up an Iwata Neo and have limited supplies in my current location.

Nice job on the office.

On my NEO, since I only use acrylics, I generally wash out the bowl with water, then blow water through it until the water is clear(not recommended for health reasons, and don't do it with enamels).  Then run a bowl of acrylic thinner or cleaner through it, with a couple of times of putting a finger over the nozzle to back flush and get bubbles in the bowl.  Then pull the front cap, clean it and the tip.  I pull the next screw cap and pull the nozzle off, clean the inside well, wipe the needle down and reassemble. Then run about a half bowl of cleaner through it again.  Works for me, haven't torn it all the way down yet and been using itfor about a year, but not all that often.

the airbrush work looks good to me :-)

I always clan my AB (when using emanels) with mineral turpentine and a paintbrush that can get into the  bottom of the pot to wash it. Then I actually have a glass jar that I have filled with turps and I store the AB submerged just up to the pot in it. Works well for me.
