Now for the Vulcan post.

This was probably the most intense paint scheme I have done to date.  Due to size maybe?  Not sure, but it took a lot of time to tape her up for the RAF Dark Green.  And of course, the decals!  I'm dubbing this year the year of terrible decals!  LOL!  I have had nothing but trouble with just about every kits decals this year.  New, old, doesn't matter they all have had issues.  Of course, with the Vulcan, it was due to the age of the kit.  But we adapted and overcame (somewhat) on most of them.

The 1/72 Vulcan is just as impressive as the Victor, if not more due to the delta wing configuration.  What and awesome plane in real life and in kit form.  Just beautiful in form!

Her she is!

Enjoy.

And now for the grand finale!  Here are the Bucc and Victor together in flight doing what they do!  I think it turned out pretty cool and my son went nuts when he walked in my room and saw it.  Now he wants models hanging in his room!  (the plan worked...now I have more places to hang the big builds! Whistling)

The refueling hoses are actually guitar strings!  E strings to be exact.  The kit hoses were WAY to short, and when I tried to stretch some sprue...it just didn't work well.  So, I saw my strings laying around and the E string was the best match and after painting them.  The texture of the big E string made them very realistic!  So, here they are in all their Desert Storm glory!  Enjoy.

Bish....what an awesome GB you are hosting!  Thank you for hosting it, and for coming up with a great idea!  I have enjoyed putting these kits together and they are just amazing and beautiful aircraft!  I hope I have done the RAF proud!  Thanks again!

Bobby

P.S. now to find me a 1/72 Valiant!! Wink

I forgot the family photo.  LOL!

Here they are, all together hanging in my room.  Not a realistic flight formation, but man they do look cool up there!

Hi Bobby, a super great job on that trio. Yes

I really like the animated feel of the inflight refuelling, and those guitar strings worked out perfect.

Jack

I built a lot of kits in the early 1960s and the best of them ended on the top of my room - must have been about 15 of them. (All hand painted with enamels.) It was so neat they stayed up for several years. One night I was half asleep and saw one of them flying. Hmmm. That woke me up and I found that a bat was flying in and out of formation with the airplane. There were a huge number of bats in the Midwest in my youth and they could scare the daylights out of you - especially if they might be carrying small machine guns. So I had to catch the blinking bat - a harder job than you'd imagine.

But if you want a plane modeled in flight, I think the ceiling is the best display platform. Much neater than a stand. As I recall it was a Vulcan that flew the first mission in the Falklands war. I'm sure British forces would have appeciated some Jaguars down there - but there was no place for them to land until the war ended. The good old days.

Blimey Bobby, so really nice work there and great in flight shots. I like the one of the Vulcan from underneath. Been fortunate enough to see that a few times with the doors open, thats an impressive site. And the in flight re-fueling shot is excellently done buddy.

Thanks buddy, i really do hope Airfix will present us with new tooled Vulcan and Vicor tankers soon, got to get me those.

Bish, I was at the LHS for my IPMS club meeting today, and the Mgr showed me the Airfix (he said) New Tooled Vulcan. It lookes AWESOME!, 1/72nd scale and its a big kit!. Think I'll have to break down and get one soon as the funds become available.

Take care...

Great looking trio Bobby specially like the air refueling scene. Wasn't a Vulcan in one of the James Bond films from the mid 60's?

With all this great work going, my update is rather dull in comparison.

So, I have completed the decaling, added almost all of the small parts and carried out touch ups. I removed the PE uder carridge door hinges as they kept falling off and was closed to using a hammer on the build... I removed the filler from the early holes in the gear doors and used some .64mm round styrene tube and glued them in, job done. Sometimes adding the extra detail is not worth it, this for me was one of them.

I taped over the wing roundals, as I needed to mask the wing tips for painting after installing the antennans. On removing the tape, parts of the wing roundal decals lifted off even after a seal coat of gloss varnish. As I was not at all happy with the poor quality of the original DK Decals, I decided to remove both and used the kit versions, which are slighly darker than used on the fuselage, but the went down without a problem.

I used Tamiya Black panel line enamel with satisfactory results and AB coated the entire model with MRP Matt Varnish. This has hidden about 80% of the dust and other stuff captured in the gloss coat, which I'm happy with. The MRP Matt Varnish went down first time without a single issue and was dry within minutes to a silky smooth finish, take that Alclag Aqua Gloss!

I'm just about done, I decided some time back to make a diorama bases for some of my builds. So i have started, just waiting on some materials to finish it. I need to add the main cockpit door, remove the window masks and add the ladder and we are done.

MMM, interesting. Not heard anything about that. Airfix are the only company to have released a 72nd Vulcan. Going to have to look into that. Nothing on the Airfix site.

Don't worry, i think most of us are over crtical of our own work and i think that in part is what pushes us to improve.

Bobby: WOW, the in-flight refueling display looks awesome!!! And love the Vulcan!

Fred: Nice work there! Best thing I can say is if you can't find reference photos probably no one else can either to tell you that you're wrong!

Damouav: Ack, that sucks about the decals peeling up! Still looks like you have the matter in hand, she's looking good.

Happy Father's Day to all of you who are Dads . . .

Although they may not know it - I have my kids to thank for getting me back into the hobby of modeling.  It started by helping my son when he was given a Star Wars Pod Racer model for his birthday (way back before the turn of the millenium).  That reminded me of how much I enjoyed modeling, and it's been an enjoyable pass-time ever since.

Thanks Kids !

Thank you sir!  Yeah, I wasn't sure how the hanging of the builds would be, but I think they came out pretty cool.  The guitar strings really helped with the look of teh hoses.
