CM & Doug, Thanks.

The chap in the picture is William Avery "Billy" Bishop VC, CB, DSO & Bar, MC, DFC, ED a Canadian flying ace credited with 72 victories in WW1. He served form 1914 - 1918 and then from 1936 - 1944 a very distinguished flying career.

Even though he is a Canadian... he has my upmost respect for his valour, and will model my S.E.5a with his markings.

So apart from re-establishing all my images links, I have my new build ready to start;

The 1/48 Roden RAF S.E.5a Wolseley Viper

I will use a mix of MRP and Tamiya paints, try my hand at wood effects and rigging for the first time and most importanty have fun in the process.

Looking forward to that one, good to see some more early stuff.

I have a nephew called Billy Bishop. I don't think he is named after the pilot, my Brother isn't a history or aircraft buff, but still nice to see one of his aircraft.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

PhotoBucket about 3 yrs ago started limiting the "Free" storage to next to nothing, and then started charging for it, I went to Flickr... 1TB storage for free, Not realizing how much a Terra Bite is at the time, I have over a thousand photos in Flickr storage, and have JUST used a full 1 percent of my TB. Hope they don't start like Photo B did.

Guys... SO much going on here... PLEASE don't take offence If I forget anyone, But MAN... This is one hot GB!!! What work is taking place! WOW...

Well OK then, Guess I'll post somemore too...

OK, Got all the doors and the gear on.

And the base coat of green.

And thats about it for now. Thanks and take care all!

Doug

Really like that in the green, this is going to look so good in that scheme. Great work.

Bish,

I'm done with number three. This was a nice little kit although I did run into some issues. The pitot kept breaking off so I eventually replaced it with a pin and of course the wheel well dislodging into the closed fuselage. Since it started out as an Italian bird the kit was missing the ECM jammer and chaff pods, oh well.

I'l be starting on the Hurricane after I finish the Val that's on the bench.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Hi Steve, terrific work on your Tornado.  Yes

Really like that tail scheme, resonates with our topic here of being an anniversary celebration.

Awsome build Steve, and a great recovery after the wheel well incident. And yes, a very appropriate scheme.

I think you deserve a break from the GB, look forward to seeing back after the val.

Damian:  thanks for the intell.  Years ago I had one of Revell's 1/28 Camels in Billy Bishop's markings.  Certainly he was a great Great War flier.

Steve:  another great airplane; well-done!  Really looks exceptional.

Just tried PB again and it's on strike and customer service is not responding. I'm out of town for a few days. When I get back I'll have to find a new service: the gents here have mentioned several I haven't heard of.

Jack, Bish, BK, Check, Damion, thanks.

Damion, thank you for the compliment. These are just some new techniques I recently tried like black baseing and pastel wash. I have come a long way in just a couple of years thanks to all the great members here.

so I have finally gotten some bench time...it's been a while!  I've been peeking in and have seen a lot of great work put out...well, except those that are dealing with that PhotoBucket crap....

Anyway, I wasn't pleased with the clarity of the canopy and various pieces of glass, so I decided to put some Tamiya smoke on them, so when that has time to dry, I'll aply the masks that I got for them, and get the framework sprayed....

I also got the propblur props painted and applied.

I began work on the water splash from the released upkeep bomb with a bit more work to do, but I mocked it all up for a few photos..

I'me liking this Justin. I was not to sure about those prop blurs, but you migt have sold me on those. I don't do in flight builds, but i have a few ground based dio's i would like to do with spinning props.

And the dio is looking good.

Thanks guys!  It's almost complete! Can't wait for it to be finished!

Bish, the prop blurs are a bit of a pain in the ***,  as they are photoetched metal, and thus very bendy....but the look is nothing short of cool as shiiite! My set actually came with individual prop blades as well as props on a central hub, so it's almost like getting two sets in one...not to mention the two small photoetched bicycles that came as a bonus gift....

Ye, i have been looking at some of their sets and noticed some come with extra blades. I was reading an older threader on here about them and i think it was Stik who was saying if painted right they look the part, if not they can look awful. You have really got the right look with those.

Still can't decide if i want to use those who leave out the blades and fill in the holes. Going to see how jack gets on with his 109 and compare the 2. But you have deffenetly put the prop blurs back on the possable list for me.

Doug, to model the lake behind the dam, I first covered the foam board with a thin layer of celluclay, then, when it was dry, I used several different rattle can paints, olive drab, pale blue, and a kelly green and kind of mottled the surface.  When that dried, I used acrylic gloss medium from the painting section of Michael's and used a crappie brush and sort of tapped it on.  It took forever to dry.  Like, almost a month out in the late spring sunshine.....but, that was it!  It dries rough, like choppy water, but clear and glossy.....

I actually sprayed them black using automotive etch primer (I work in a body repair shop...) and let them dry for a while, until the Lanc was ready to be mounted on the base, then, when that was all ready, I dropped some Vallejo yellow into my airbrush, and free handed the tips yellow, just until the yellow was slightly showing the black through. I felt that the soft edges, coupled with the not super bright yellow tips would add to the spinning effect.....

Brilliant display of spinning props, they look VERY realistic specially with the fading yellow you did. Beer

I too have been looking at them for a Heller 1/72 Super Connie I want to do in-flight for a future project.

Just one thing to add, I would put the props at slightly different positions instead of all being at the same rotation point IMO.

Will be interesting to see the completed dio. Great job so far.

Justin, Thanks for the info... I've not had a chance yet to try the celluclay, but will try it soon. I have in the past done alot like what you described, but instead of the celluclay, I've crumpled up tinfoil, straightened back out then smoothed to the degree of wave motion I want. After that its pretty much the same as you've done. I have used the material that has to be melted first, but you have to work fast, it sets up fairly quickly. I've found a heat gun near by is a handy to have. Thanks again for the info... Great work !

Justin, that dam busting scene is really coming to life, and good use of the prop blur product.

Hi Bish, I actually did a Friedrich earlier this year without the prop blades.  Of course, adding a photo background helps convey the inflight look:

The Gustav I'm currently working on has the spiral motif on the nose, not sure I will add any sort of blur to that.   Keep in mind though, what I did here and and the prop blur product convey two different things.  One is how prop motion appears to the naked eye, while the latter  illustrates what a camera captures on film.

----------------------

Again, everyone - awesome work being showcased here.

Jack
