I dumped PB like 3-4 years ago, got tired of the BS! I don't mind paying for a hosting site that is user friendly. I have Image Shack and I'm very happy with it but not with their price increase.

PJ,

As a matter of interest what are the monthly/yearly fees?

Thanks

I'd been using PhotoBucket's basic free service since here is the only place I've been posting photos. Guess I'll be looking around at what PB is charging for basic service as well as Flicker and ImageShack this weekend.

I don't mind paying for a service but PB has been pretty awful over the last few years. And I hate paying for shoddy service. We'll see how things go.

I was paying $19 a year for the last 3 years and they jacked it up to $38 a year. I bit the bullet cause it's really eay to use, has some nice features and works 99.99% of the time. I can only remember one time in 4 years they had an issue and was resolved in a couple of days.

Thanks for the link, Fred.  Will be giving it a try.  It appears some (but not all!) of my posted photos have also disappeared.

Cheap move by PB.

Some millennial suit at PB probably thought "look at all the money we are losing by letting these third party posters off Scott free". It would have been smarter to charge $10 per year and raise it slowly over the next several years. Now they are going to lose a major part of their base.

Looks like Postimage works.  I just signed up and added this photo of the Hampden's engine nacelles.  Got an email from photobucket; they want $399 a year, for the 500 Plan that allows 3rd party posting!  Apparently not available with the cheaper plans.  Good-bye photobucket! No

Thanks, Fred.  The nacelles are currently painted up with camo, and await the metallic parts.

Woah, that is crazy what PB is doing to you guys.  The stupid thing is, they think the modelers are making some kind of money off of their services and they want a cut.

I suppose another option is to use facebook as a host for your images.  That company is already making wads of cash as it is, so can't see them turning around and pulling the same stunt - but never say never.

regards,

Jack

At least Postimage is working and free for now--maybe not in the future, when "free" goes the way of the dinosaur.

Didn't know Facebook could host pictures for linking here.  I don't have an account, but my wife does, so maybe I'll try that too in the future.

What's especially disconcerting:  will all the old photos posted here years ago start disappearing, too?

My old ones are still showing. I have not used it in about a year so i am not sure what the deal is.

Edit: I just changed my sig pic via PB and it let me even though it shouldn't, so not sure whats going on.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Bye, Photobucket. The slow load times, ads that won't close when the X is clicked, and general garbage design was usable while it was free.

Now they won't get my money on principle.

Thanks PJ, $38.00 a year doesn't sound too bad- I'd go up ten bucks a month or so. I can't see four-hundred a year though. PB recently reminds me of the folks who had the goose that laid golden eggs that got greedy and killed it...

Oh, how 'bout that - it's pretty easy to do with Dropbox (though there is a small change in the share image code you need to make (change the ending where it says "?dl=1" to "?raw=1"

Of course it's huge - it's a WHALE!!!

Lol, yes. When embedding from Dropbox, it puts the full image into the email, whereas theback end on the FSM forum was resizing the embedded images from PB. WHen I make my images for sharing, I'll just make sure I size them to a reasonable 700x700 pixels, so they are big enough to see, but not massive like the whale ;)

PhotoBucket about 3 yrs ago started limiting the "Free" storage to next to nothing, and then started charging for it, I went to Flickr... 1TB storage for free, Not realizing how much a Terra Bite is at the time, I have over a thousand photos in Flickr storage, and have JUST used a full 1 percent of my TB. Hope they don't start like Photo B did.

Guys... SO much going on here... PLEASE don't take offence If I forget anyone, But MAN... This is one hot GB!!! What work is taking place! WOW...

Well OK then, Guess I'll post somemore too...

OK, Got all the doors and the gear on.

And the base coat of green.

And thats about it for now. Thanks and take care all!

With all this time wasting with photo"cr*p"bucket going on it has taken me away from why I posted here in the first place, as Doug has kindly pointed out.

Doug - What a brilliant job you have done, I can't wait to see her with decals on standing proud! Excellent work.

So apart from re-establishing all my images links, I have my new build ready to start;

The 1/48 Roden RAF S.E.5a Wolseley Viper

I will use a mix of MRP and Tamiya paints, try my hand at wood effects and rigging for the first time and most importanty have fun in the process.
