Thanks GM. I love the old instructions for this kit. So thorough in their explanation of what to do. A far cry from most of today’s pictures only international style of sheets. 

All I can say now is that I’ve lost my hand brushing skills after 30 years of airbrushing... we shall see how this part works out.

I made a bunch of progress on my Avanti. The instructions are dog doo, just have to stick stuff together based on intuition.

Here are my update photos from the last few days of work on the Hurricane.

I painted up the pilot, sealed the fuselage, glued on the wings, tail planes, landing gear, chin scoop, oil cooler, and bomb racks...

i have started the camo painting, but no photos of that yet...

CB, nice fix on the tail mast. You’re right, it does not look the same without the mast.

Nice work on Marge there Beav. I know how challenging that kit is, and you overcame that.

So after I finished with the painting and decaling phase, I decided that the kit just does not look right without the antenna stub on the fin, which I had knocked off at some point in the construction process.  I hacked a rough shape out of sheet styrene, and took it as a sign to proceed after 1) the shape was actually acceptable and 2) The new part did not fly off into oblivion while I was gently holding it in the tweezers while sanding it down...

Finally finished and with a week to spare. Many, many flaws, but with my superb photography skills, I have hidden most of them. It wouln't be the worst model if it came with a one piece nose option and better "glass". Now back to building again since college football is officially over, enjoy.

So in starting the 2 F-106s I figured whats one more.  Not sure if I have the room to juggle all three at once but I'm going to give it a try.

This kit has been in my stash for probably 25 years or so...

 

It has been waiting patiently for it's time. Now it's been put to the use it was intended back in '64, hanging from a kids bedroom ceiling.

Finished the P-51D (or F-51 with the Tamiya decals)-I gave consideration to putting the Tamiya drop tanks on (painted as napalm tanks) but it wasn't a good fit-the bombs would probably work. This one will become a test bed for future projects, i.e., weathering, paint schemes, etc.

I started with painting the cockpit interior of course... I am going old old school here, handbrushing enamels...

And I glued the wings together... there was a bit of warp to deal with...

Good stuff all around guys. Well, I have kicked off my first build, so now I have to get my butt in gear and run this GB properly. Apologies for not doing so over the past couple of months. No more excuses on my part.

So I am going to build the 1964 vintage 1/48 Hurricane. I am building this as a ceiling hangar for my great nephew who loves planes, so aside from drilling or thinning some stuff here and there, this will be OOB. And replacing the decals, due to kit ones looking quite questionable. This kit has been in my stash for probably 25 years or so...

Finished the P-51D (or F-51 with the Tamiya decals)-I gave consideration to putting the Tamiya drop tanks on (painted as napalm tanks) but it wasn't a good fit-the bombs would probably work. This one will become a test bed for future projects, i.e., weathering, paint schemes, etc.

Again, this kit needs more time devoted to it to fix the little things-canopy fit and seams are the things that come to mind.  Add to that trying to spray rattle can paint when the temp in the garage is way under the minimum.  The self inflicted wounds-I learned that neither Vallejo Model Air or Tamiya yellow like being airbrushed over Tamiya rattle can chrome silver.  And this is a kit that requires more time to 'get it right'-I'm going to have to try another one when I'm not trying to meet a time limit.

Now onto the Fiat & P-40E

Decided to not use the supercharger on the Fiat so I wanted to close up the opening in the hood-used some Perfect Plastic putty and some plastic stock-I'm happy with the putty.  Also I put the roof cutout in and sealed it up.

DasBeav-love the P-38.  I built the night fighter version many years ago-wish I'd have kept it (and most of my finished builds) when we relocated....maybe that's a reason to pick up another copy.

GMorrison-will be following your build-I picked up that kit on sale and have plans for a Salt Flats build.

Making progress-fought with the spray can Tamiya in the cold garage-doesn't look too bad-lost the detail on one side though. And silver shows every flaw-I thought the seams were better than they are.  I've been mixing other activities with building so I haven't given this kit the attention that it deserves-it could be propeled to the next level with some TLC....and time. However, for a $9.00 kit (Michaels 50% coupon) and a 48 hr time limit/target, it's great fun.  I need to paint the canopy and landing gear but I'm hoping to get up early enough to finish before my deadline.

If I had it to do over again, I'd try the Vallejo Metal paints-I put too much primer & paint on the right side and lost the detail.

Using the decals from the Tamiya F-51 kit and they didn't create any problems-they do require Solveset for settling them down.

With the family's permission I would like to change from building the Paddy Wagon to the M4 Sherman Screaming Mimi version. I started the Paddy Wagon and quickly remembered why I do not build cars. The thing is a PITA.  

So I did the F6F for the weekend build, then did this Capri also.  Does it count as US made?  The box says made in USA.  Thanks

Finally got a chance to get the Avanti going. 

First gloss black undercoat (eventually metallic gold).

Sanded, and polished with Micromesh.

Here's the second coat. Should be ready to polish by about Wednesday.

 

Posted August 6th. By my math, I have until February 6th to "take care of dat ting for you".

Time to get this show on the road.

Paint finished...meh. All of the flaws can now be seen. Hoping future and VJ Satin varnish covers up some of them.

Finally, the "putty monster" is off to paint. I hate using filler and as you can see, I am terrrible at it. It's freezing and got some snow(had to shovel drive way for the first time in 2 years) I should finish this up in a few days, just under the deadline. Stay warm my northeastern friends.

Hey all-great builds continuing to be posted here-you all are an inspiration.

I started on the AMT P-40E(cockpit painted-need to work on the details) and the AMT Fiat has had the hood cleaned up a bit, chasis put together & primed.  Still not sure which engine I'm going with-the Hemi is built up but I might go with the small block Chevy...however, I decided to attempt to build a plane for Lewbud's Weekend Madness and chose the Revell/Monogram P-51D...I've attempted planes for the Weekend Madness GB before and haven't finished so I thought I'd give it another shot.

Stik-if you don't mind, I'll post pics here also.  If not, I can remove them.

I started this am with the 1/48 Revell/Monogram P-51D.  The kit is turning out to be nicer than I remembered-minor seam cleanup-I do have one major snafu so far-the cockpit is slightly askewed so the canopy is going to need some 'adjusting'-my fault, not the kits.

Here are the proof of start pics, a picture of the cockpit, and the plane ready for primer.  Just finished priming in the garage-was hoping to use the plane as a test for Vallejo Air-Metal paints-I did run a quick test on the inner wing but I don't feel confident that I can pull it off before Monday am-just shot the Tamiya rattle can grey primer-I have a can of Tamiya Gloss Aluminium so that will go on later tonight or early tomorrow...anyway, here are the pics

Not sure what paint scheme I'm going with-I have a decal sheet for Southern Europe planes that might work if I get creative with the fillet option or go for a Korean War F-51 version-again, I would be using the incorrect exhaust version, but .......

Fingers crossed-with a good tail wind, I might finish this one within the 48hr window-just like the kits I used to build over a weekend when I was a kid-having some great flashback memories.

Well I really thought I would be able to get the FW done by end of year; however there are a few details left and I wont be able to get back to the bench until after new years... should be wrapped you by mid January then the goal will be to get the Thunderbolt done by end of Feb. See u guys in 2018!
