Nice turn out for this one.  Good job Lew.  Rebuilding the shop this weekend.  Looking forward to breaking it in with a couple of weekend builds.

My shop will have power this Sunday, so this group build will be its first "shakedown cruise".

Gonna hafta figure out how to airbrush while holding a drumstik..... OR.......

If the "drumstick" gets camoflauged, does it count as a compleated build???

Do I have to provide "Proof of life" pictures of the Turkey?????

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

Just remember, paint doesn't react well with grease.  No, a painted drumstick does NOT count as a completed build and yes, you do have to provide proof of life pictures for the turkey. Also the trimmings.

Speaking of camouflaging drumsticks, we had to build a Spitfire in a non operational scheme for a recent club display. Mine was built as a lamington. Not sure if you have those over there. It a small block of sponge cake covered on all sides with chocolate icing and dessicated coconut. I chucked it after the display because I didn't think the coconut would age well. The choc was brown paint though. Now back to the very serious business of building a kit in a weekend :) Cheers Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Tony,

Lamingtons sound delicious.  Icing the bottom seems a little problematic.  Four days to go.

Ok, I made my selection. I will be building the Academy 1/48 Mirage IIIR. It’s a nice older low parts count kit...

Tony,

That was a great club display at MOdel Expo! The spitfires were painted in very imaginative schemes.

There was a toucan,  snakeskin,  patchwork, the steam punk, and others so  different from the standard. A super display of skills that do not get shown often.

Those sound cool, anybody got pictures?

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

I don't have the others, but this is a photo of my lamington Spitfire. Sorry if it's a bit off topic ! Thanks for the kind words Piers.

I'm wondering if this is a world first fusion of food and plastiv modelling hahaha.

Cheers

Now that's a well camouflaged fighter. The first thing I thought of was Frosted Mini Wheats LOL. I wish you had a pic of the steam punked one.

Lewbud, I'm going to start the Kiowa on Friday. I have the day off and the Mrs. doesn’t so that will be a fantastic opportunity to get 'er done and not cut too much into family time. Here's to hoping the lights can wait till Sunday Beer

Those spits are so cool.  That sounds like a fun topic for a group build.

Back to this GB, I opened the box to my Hasagawa Corsair, it had been wrapped for years, and find that the decals are yellowed.  I may have to make some up which adds some time to my already full schedule this weekend.

Those are so cool Lost, thanks! That would make for an intresting GB, especially for the stash kits that we don't really want to get to because we know they will be a PITA to make them right.

Hmmmm Hmm

Wow, those are really cool!  Great idea for a group build.   I can’t wait to see what people bring to the table for this Weekend GB!!  I think I’m going to build mine next weekend, time permitting of course.

Piers and Tony,

Thanks for sharing the pics. It's nice to see modelers embrace their whimsical side.

Scottrc,

Don't forget that Corsairs were racers also. Hit the decal stash and turn it into an ersatz racer (I did that with a Fujimi Spit after the kit decals decided they weren't going to release no matter how long I soaked them). Or follow Piers and Tony's lead and do something whimsical.

As for me, like all of you I've agonized over what to build for this.  I hope it won't come back to bite me in the butt, but I'm going with MPM's Curtiss XP-55 Ascender.  I got this kit last year from a friend and club member who passed away.  At our club Christmas party last year, he invited us into his model room and told us we were welcome to take two unbuilt kits each, but we had to take one built model as well.  When I asked him about the the built kit, he said that was so he'd never be forgotten (he won't). This gentleman passed away Monday. The Ascender will be a what if, painted in natural metal with decals scavenged from a P-38 sheet I'll never use.

As fer the rest of you scalliwags, clear the decks and get ready for action for on the 'morrow, we sail into history.

It says it starts on Friday the 23rd. Isn't Friday the 24th? I was thinking about jumping in. I get it now. Either day with 48 cut off. Duh

I like those Spitfires!

Just need to sweep off the bench and I’m ready to go. I’m hoping this wildcat doe take as much filler and sanding as the old aoshima hurricane on the bench now or it may end up looking like one of my junior high products. I guess if that happens the grandson will get a new toy airplane.

Griffin,

Welcome aboard! The start date is Thursday 23 November 2017, I used a Friday start day as an example. Honestly, it doesn't matter what day you start on, as long as you're done in 48 hours. We look forward to your build.  This build goes for as long as there is interest, but it usually peters out by Christmas. Round one starts in five hours.

I'll probably start mine on Sunday morning Australian Eastern Summer Time. It's going to be one of the 1/32 figures from the Airfix British Infantry multi pose set, with a light conversion to an MP. I'll mount it on a display base. Could you update the roster please Lewbud. Cheers Tony

Ok cool. Thanks bud. I'll be building a Trumpy 1/72 M113 ACAV. Not too many parts but I'll concentrate on the painting.

'tis the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness.... and some of the fruit is low hanging.

The kit has 48 pieces, I have 48 hours - success is a mathematical certainty!
