So late this afternoon I began painting.

First up, Tamiya Aluminum in the wheel wells, landing gear, doors, intakes, etc...

Then I mixed up some custom colors for the engine... just various metallics, grays, black, and brown unti lt looked about right...

And the wheel wells are open holes as well so I boxed those in with some sheet plastic

Thanks guys, I am off and running in this one. Of course i could not go straight OOB on this since it has so many shortcomings. So today I addressed most of those.

In the cockpit I replaced the kit seat with one from an ESCI Mirage, and the IP with one from an Eduard Mirage. I also modified the electronics boxes behind the seat to fit that change

The kit has nothing behind the afterburner, so I took that area from the Eduard kit also...

Nice Raven B_one!

And as of a few minutes after 9am here, I have started!

Look forward to this one. I like the Mirage III. It makes me think of the Six-Day War or the Falklands Islands War.

Thanks Lewbud, Tony and MM

It has been a fun build, the decals were my biggest concern, but with many setting solution applications they settled down okay.

After I finished, had a quick bike ride in the rain to celebrate, then set up to take the nice photos. First up Lewbud, the one for the front page:

Usually I photograph against a grey paper background - this is on a light blue paper instead. For comparison, this is on the grey background, where I think the silver finish disappears a bit.

Just curious, I took the same shot on a green, a bit wierd, feels like I'm getting ready to CGI Lindy and a Paris crowd into the shot. However the colour of the silver is closest to how it appears 'in the flesh'.

I like this close up of the nose

And the top shot, the blue background looks a deeper colour with the higher angle:

The under shot

And that's enough of that. Thanks again Lewbud for the highly anticipated annual weekend madness.

Great work all-especially given the 48hr time frame.

I'm planning/hoping to get started tomorrow night around 10pm (plans earlier in the evening) with the Monogram Chaparral Coupe

Not a lot of parts but what few parts there are need a lot of TLC.

Will post the starting picture tomorrow night....I hope..

Nice work on the EF-111. Good luck with the paint. Congrats from me too Lostagain, that's a great achievement in a mid week weekend ! Looks pretty good too. I'm yet to decide if I go for round 2, not sure if this weekend is clear enough to give it a decent go. Cheers Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

That Spirit of St. Louis looks great!  I want to get the ball rolling so bad but my wifes check engine light came on yesterday which usually means my weekend is shot!  All the final products look superb considering they were all finished within 48 hours!

Lostagain,

You're Spirit is looking great, keep it up!

B_one,

Looking forward too seeing her in paint, keep it up!

For me, Round Two's build will be Revell's reissue of Italeri's F6F-5 Hellcat. I picked it up at Squadron's Scratch and Dent sale at Scalefest several years ago for a buck.  Not quite sure of the markings it will wear.  I've narrowed it down to two, the first being Draw Decals Blue Angels set, the other is an FAA bird from the kit decals.  Looking forward to seeing your builds.

Thanks Lew,

The paint is on, chose dull aluminium to replicate the doped fabric

Then let the paint dry for four hours before going for the decals, including my largest ever decal which took some time to place then massage the bubbles out of. These decals are a bit thick and don't conform too well. I have used multiple setting solution applications for each decal, especially the ones on the nose

and then the wing supports were put into place

Nine and a half hours to go, but I need my ugly sleep...
