T.J. , Hunter... Thank you, Very much appreciated!

Got the decals on today, and was able to start the weathering... Note, I put a "Bar" in the campaign stripe until the actual marking arrives, at which time, I'll remove bar and replace it with the wavy bar that shows in the picture. I had one in a set of decals but they both fell apart when I tried to apply them... Oh well...

Starting on the upper side panel lines.

And the excess cleaned off...

And thats about it for now. Take care all and thanks for looking!

The 190 is looking fantastic Doug. Great job on the paint and markings.

People tell me I have nothing but time cuz I'm retired. Well, I have no clue where time goes. Even if a day had 48 hours, I still need more time. I find myself busier now than when I was working 40-45 hours a week.

You know PJ, sometimes I will agree wholeheartedly...you just get going and the whole day is shot. Other times not so much, but for me the summer is when I have no time, between the house and yard. Lol... And of course my wife can't stand to see me taking it easy so she does her best to find me things to do! Lolol...

Hunter... Thank you so much, I really do appreciate the kind words.

Take care!

Doug, looking great that Sturm bird.  The altered colours and non-standard camou pattern on the wings certainly lend an air of  'disarray' of some late war equipment.

---------------------------------

This will sound anal to some, but it should be pointed out that since you've added the horizontal bar symbol (over the white band), this puts this as a II. Gruppe aircraft - and it was already established that JG 3 had only the 190A in their IV. Gruppe.

Jack, thanks for posting that. I am still a bit clueless when it comes to German figter markings. Where did you get that from.

Hi Bish, the graphic was found using image google search 'Luftwaffe tactical markings'.  The source of the photo only seems to be Pinterest.

It is a bit incomplete because it should include the colour blue when a gruppe is composed of four staffeln, ie. blue would be the colour code of the fourth staffle.   Also, I've also seen examples where brown was used instead of red.

Hey Jack... Thanks for info as always... Like Bish, I'm a bit clueless when it comes to such markings, and even when you do find info, alot of times it comflicts with others. I had the 11Staffel wavy bar, but when I tried to apply it crumbled and I have to order some more, so to hold a spot I just put the straight one on for now. I try to keep it close when I state a certain aircraft , Gp, and staffel, but oft times fail miseribly. Its coming along though. Won't be much longer now.

Doug,  I hear ya, I have to look these symbols up from time to time as well.

Usually you can get away with switching the symbols out when the whole wing is flying the same type of aircraft, but with JG 3 and the Sturmgruppen concept, it's another story becasue they had the 109 equipping the first two or three groups in the escort role.

Jack

Thanks Jake, that is really useful. I'm not to bad with the 4 digit code system, but the fighter one has always had me confused, but its a lot simpler than it seems. I do have Vol 2 of Merricks Camo and markings but never checked the fighter code section, will have to read that properly.

I think the biggect confuseing think with fighters is not being able to ID a JG when no unit badge is visible, this is an advantage of the 4 didgit system.

Jack - I am getting steadily less 'clueless' as we roll through this GB, thank you, its on my Pinterest page now

Doug, your 190 is looking terrific.

Quick update on my Japanese 109E. It's finally primed and ready for paint after several iterations of filling and priming.

Cheers

Tony

4 digit code, that must be those aircraft delivery codes as found here:

http://pilotosdelaluftwaffe.tripod.com/lwmark.htm

... and also from that above link some more stuff already mentioned:

https://rhorta.home.xs4all.nl/luftwaff.htm

-----------------------------

One thing that should be mentioned is when expressing the nomenclature to use the right number style, meaning Roman numerals for the Gruppe, and regulars numbers for everything else.

Emblems and badges, yea that can be a bit difficult and probably the least consistant of the markings, partly because they were used less as the conflict wore on.

Jack

Sorry Jack, i meant the 4 didgit codes used on bombers, ground attack etc. I completely forgot about the factory codes.

Cheers

Tony... looking good! Can't wait to see the finish.

Nick... It'll be pretty flat. Thats what I was saying earlier about the mottle. I start out darker and as the paint progresses it gets flatter and lighter. Your 109 is looking goid!.

And a bit more from me...

OK, the oils had dried enough to work with, actually I didn't have to let it dry as much as I did. In previous pictures the paint was very heavy, I usually take a paper towel and put some paint thinner on it, daub it near dry, then start to drag it over paint until I get the results I want. If you take too much off, no biggie, just reapply.

Doing some of the dry brushing "chipping" and weathering...

Prop spinner painted and mounted.

Well thats it for now... Next I'll remove the canopy and do the work to it. I usually just place a dab or two of white glue to it to hold in place during paint. Pops right off when needed to...Thanks for looking! Take care all!
