Mark, looking really nice there. How do you find useing Flory wash on the Alclad.

Bish, I use Flory over the  AG all the time, just like Future. The AG actually sprays better with a smoother finish. For some reason I get a pebbly finish with Future if sprayed  so I hand brush it.

I am having issues with Flory over Alclad gloss, as well as over Xtracolour and MRP. The wash seems to be repelled and beads up. I have to really work it to get a full coverage.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Mark,

Great work on the Dora...the paint job looks great!

PJ,

Let's just say it's gonna take a full jar of glue to fix it LOL. I was glad to see your post that Holly was doing better. Before long she will be back to snaking on your builds and digging up the backyard.

That Dora looks extra sexy!Beer

You use the same stuff I do, Aqua Gloss, EZ line and Flory. The AG goes on very well and cures faster than Future. The EZ line is amazing and the same for Flory. I love the effect when your wipe wIth the airflow leaving subtle streaks.

Hunter

Sorry to hear about the "accident". I hope your plane is in better shape than one my dog Holly used as a chewy toy a while backIndifferent

I hope to start on my 1/32 Dora soon.

Hello everyone,

Just another quick update, I have given the kit another coat of Alclad Aqua Gloss to seal in the decals.

Next was to undertake a coverage of Flory Models Dark Dirt wash, to both the airframe and the ancilleries, after it had dried it was wiped off with a combination of damp paper towel and cotton buds for the delicate pieces. I then applied a couple of coats of Xtraacrylix Flat cote to dull down the gloss. I then removed the remaining masks on the cockpit canopy and engine cowling.

I have also added the fine EZ-Line aerial to the canopy and aerial mast on the tail though havent trimmed it off yet. The cannons and the Quickboost exhausts are also on, as is the tail wheel.

Thats it for today and this week, I will put on the remaining parts if I have some time next week in the evenings. I have to say I am really enjoying this build and the GB as a whole, some really great builds going on.

Thanks for looking in.

Best Regards

Mark

Hello all,

A lot of great work going on here. Well, I have to start on a new kit. While I was working  extra rotations at the fire station(12 days), my little niece Sierra deceided to take my build for a flight or two in the backyard. And let's just say I will have to take it to the plastic "ER". When she explained it to me (she's 5 years old)...I couldn't help but have a big smile and laugh. I told her I would let her have the one I finish so she could play with it.

Rooster...I will let you know tomorrow what I dug out of the stash.

Hello everyone,

Just to give a quick update on the progress of the build of the FW190-D9 Dora. I have completed the painting using a mixture of both Alclad and Humbol paints, for RLM 71/72 and RLM 76. The mottling of RLM 75 was created by using a custom made mask. I know the colours arent quite right, but as this aircraft was being operated at the end of the war Luftwaffe colours were known to have varied.

I then added several coats of Alclad Aqua Gloss, and when fully cured added a mixture of decals from both the Tamiya box supplied and Xtradecal and Sky Models. I have only used the basics and not too many of the stencils as they wouldnt show with the dark colours.

The only "licence" I have used for this JG300 machine is the group Boars Head decal under the canopy. I am sure that Major Gunther Rall would have had one on his personal mount! Though no pictures of the time survive of it, and I have based this build of the painting by Robert Taylor.

I have also added the spiral decal to the prop spinner and the undercarriage legs.

Next step will be softner solution and then a regloss prior to some weathering. Then will be the fitting of the ancilleries, gear, exhausts, cannons, aerials et al.I will keep you all posted.

Thanks for looking

Best Regards

Mark

Yeah, i did one of the Monogram pro modeler Ju87s not long ago, and it had a Dragon sticker still on the part bag. Another thing, on the part sprues if you check around the edges, you might find a dragon trade mark molded onto one of the flats where the part numbers are usually marked. But again, yes most pro modeler offerings are dragon moldings in monogram boxes.

Take care all... Doug

Andy... Thank you! I love these two aircraft and have a pretty extensive library of books on both.  The thing I like about these two models is the variety of choices. You can build a "weekend kit" with a hand full of parts, or find versions with a couple hundered parts, and every scale imaginable. Thanks again for such a good topic!

Tony... Yes sir they are... My experiances with them have been mainly favorable. Like other kits there are various degrees of detail, but always much better detailed then your lower end kits like the early Revell and monogram kits. But, like the Monogram Fw190 kit # 85-5949, and kit # 85-5969 (190-D) Pro modeler kits are just reboxed Dragon kits, and are nicely detailed. The only thing I don't like is the lack of riviting. They have basic panel lines but lack rivets if desired. They are however very fine moldings and usually go together well. Dragon armor kits are also good kits. Hope that answers your question, Take care my friends...

Doug

Hey Doug, Are those Dragon kits ex-Trimaster ? Have you built any before and what was the experience ? I'm just curious. Cheers Tony

My apologies! I guess I saw your name first and just mistook it... Sorry Rooster... You get the great idea compliment, although Bish always has great GB topics too!  If ok with you, I picked out an Fw 190 A 8 from 11 Jg3 (Black 8 ) Flying Home defense against bombers August 1944. Again its a Dragon kit 1/48 scale. Please pardon the confusion... Thanks and take care...

Doug

No worries Doug. Glad to have you in this one. I've seen some of your Luftwaffe builds and they always turn out awesome! I'll get you added soon.

taxtp. i really like the look. the post lightning of the panels look really cool.

that's a technic I have yet to try but intend to. I have attempted it on my practice model. but i have a hard time seeing the difference then i go to far.

Thats the same issue i have. I am going to try it with the new MRP paints, see if that makes a difference.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Thanks Bish and Blackdog. Hope this helps, I lighten the paint then thin it right down, so the colour buildup is slow. It makes it easier to control. Cheers Tony

My 109 has been Futured (thats a verb, right ?) and the decals are on. I found that the rudder tricolour didn't fit at all, so I'm going to have to mask, colour match and spray it.

Cheers

Hi Eagle,

That Tamiya FW 190 A looks absolutely brilliant and is a welcome addition to the GB. That paint job is fantastic, and well done to finishing to such a high standard mate. I have one of those in my stash and if it comes out half as good as yours id be chuffed.

Thank you sir!  It is a great kit.  you will love it....now to find me a Tamiya 109.  Whistling  LOL!

They have a couple of 109E's in your scale, they do the same subjects in mine. And they have a new all singing all dancing 109G in 48th out soon as well.

Santa might have to stop by a hobby shop this year.  Whistling
