I made a bit more quick progress on the 109. Test fitted fuselage halves which fit tight but good. The engine needs a little repositioning to be center but thats not too hard to do. i also glued the wing halves together. The kit has you build the full guns that go in the wings to be viewed by a glass pannel under the wing but since i have no intrest i just built the gun assembly and thats all. The wings are simple, just two halves and a panel that goes over the gun barrel and everything fits up pretty well. After all that was done i test fitted the wing section to fuselage section. Whts interesting is that they include a fuel tank for the wing section which cant be seen at all. Although neither can half the radios you build for it.

Also when installing the nose cowel there is a bit of trick to getting the gun barrels through the holes, but once you figure it out its super easy.

But still, im loving this kit and how fast it coming together.

Started work on my 109.  Pics aren’t great but I’m happy with the progress.

Wow, with the engine that close, it’s a wonder pilots didn’t fry!  Surprise

Looks great so far.

Thank you, and yes everything is very close, but trust me, sitting in one of those is like sitting in a casket. You wear that aircraft.

Got started on the cockpit and engine assembly. The color call out for the interior is RLM02 but ive looked up what interior colors before and per the manual for German aircraft of the period, everything xisible through the glass is painted Grey so i usd vallejo German Grey as the interior color, all other structeral parts are painted with MRP RLM02.

The engine built up very quickply and is very nicely detailed, i painted it with flat black and then used vallejo dark steel pigments. I then detailed painted the bolt heads, ignition wires, and other smaller parts.

Finally i added the kit PE seat belts. The PE is a bit stiff so it makes it difficult to bend. but i was able to get them on there and i think they look very good.

My next entry after the 109E-3 above is this 109E-7, in Japanese markings. It will be a crossover with the Japanese GB VI

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Thats very bad luck with the decals Bobby, I hope you can find some that work for you. I usually give old decals a precautionary sprayed gloss coat before wetting them.

I would like to change my entry for this GB, as I the decals I want to use are for a 109E-3, and my Tamiya kit is and E-4/E-7 Trop.

I plan to do a few builds for this GB.

First up is this kit, with these decals. THis kit has options for an E-3 or an E-4, so I'll do the E-3.

cheers

Tony

Hey Bobby,

Where did you order the decals from?

Hey Hunter.  I haven't yet.  But the cheeapest I found is Lots-of-models.com and Sprue Bros.  They are only about .54 cents apart.  I have ordered from both in the past.

Hey Bobby sorry to hear about the decal issue. One thing you may try next time with old decals is to hold the decal sheet in different angles against a good light source. If you see tiny cracks on the film then it's no good. I've had a couple of old sheets that looked new to the eye till I played with the angles and light.

Thanks for the tip Ernie!  I did not think to do that.  They did look perfect to the naked eye, but man, once they hit water!  It was a mess.  LOL!  Thanks again!

Bobby that Tamiya is looking really nice! I like the paint job and it's always nice when construction is pain free.

blackdog & B-1, I've got you added to the roster!

Thank you sir!  The kit was a sweet one for sure.  Highly recommend it.  Just waiting on decals to finish it up.

Rooster, What is your feeling about what if builds? I have an idea for a post war F-190 racer that would have gone in Bish's 1946 GB had I not taken 18 months to finish my MB-5. Lots of great work already, enjoying the builds.

Wow, already so many cool builds going on here!  But seriously, Steve's little 1/144 plane is the one that really has me shaking my head in wonder.  Bravo!  I don't know how you even work at that scale, let alone turn out something that looks that good!

I probably won't be starting my Fw 190 until early next year, but I'll be checking in here frequently to see what everyone is doing.  Keep up the great work everyone!  Smile

Cheers, Mark

the kit looks basic but whell done I'm going to have to paint the dash which is somthing I need a lot of practice with

I may jump in with a f model from zevezda after this one.

Wow Bobby....wonderful job on the paint scheme, it looks outstanding! That is a shame about the decals. I have only built 4 kits to date since I started and all have been Tamiya and I have had zero issues with those kits. If interested, I found a set at scalehobbyist.com

Thank you sir!  LOL!  I have had a time with decals this for some reason.  Tamiya are really good kits.  I think most of my problem is me....I rarely buy retail.  I buy at shows and for some reason, estate sales seem to fall into my lap, so I...on average... have older kits.  So don't fret about your kits.  I'm sure they will be fine.  Thanks again!

Bish

That paint job loks god to me Bobby. Bad news about those decals, i hope thats not usual for Tamiya aircraft.

I found this set of Eagle Cal decals with 4 of his aircraft including one A-3.

https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/EAG48053

Thank you sir!!  No, I don't think it is a Tamiya aircraft thing.  I had someone from across the pond bless me with a Tamiya 335 Whistling and it was a spectacular kit!  Decals and all.

Yeap, that is the one I found that fit the bill.  Couple of places over here have it, just need to get them now.
