howdy gang this normaley how i start out is by test fitting. it all lines up well but evem\n with the pins and holes going to gether its still has room to miss aline on the fusalage seems so somthing to watch out for. any ways getting started on it. not a lot to the kit so depends on how much extra i will want to do.2017-10-16_06-19-26 by Jerry Richards, on Flickr

Hunter, not really but I did have to scale down everything. Small flaws that really don't make a diffrence on a 1/48 or 1/32 scale will really show on a 1/144 such as gap filling and parts fitting. This scale should help hone my super detailing skills.

 

That's what I've been finding doing some scratch work in 1/72 scale (which is small for me lol).

Andy, great idea with the crushed brass tubes.  I too was thinking plastic or vinyl tubing - something like the car guys use detailing their engines, or the stuff you find at fly fishing shops.

I'm done with the 190. I'm pretty happy with my first 1/144 fighter and plan on continuing with this scale. In fact I had ordered a 1/144 Kawanishi H6K5-L Mavis and when it arrived, guess what the shipper tossed in the box for me for free?

 LOL, the decals are nicer than the Revell kit. Maybe I throw this on on the roster later as well.

Andy use any of them you want, it doesn't matter to me. I have a few other builds to clear from my bench (your project went to the head of the line) before I start on one of the 1/72s.

Excellent work on the exhaust. I would have used some type of small plastic tubing but what you used really looks great. Great fit and looks...you've got it going on Andy lol. What size tubing did you use?

Ok, i have used some of there stuff in the past, mostly wheels, but the odd pit. Looks a really nice piece.

Though i should have guessed it wasn't Aires with the molded on seats belts.

 

I actually like the True Details better over Aires. I find TD to be better and cleaner in detail quality.

Thanks guys! Here is what I came up with for exhaust. I just used the smallest tubing I had around, cut it into short lengths and squeezed the end with a pair of flat pliers to give it the oval shape found on 190's. They are a little large for this scale and I was only able to fit three on each side instead of the four that there should be but it adds some visual interest to the area.

Was also able to get the fuselage halves joined this morning before work so should be finishing up construction in the next few days.

Andy, if you hadn't said that was a 1/72 I would have thought it was 1/48, well done. Looks great.

Andy: That resin cockpit looks awesome, great job on painting it!

The little flaps behind the exhausts are cooling vents. They open up to let more air flow over the engine. I'm pretty sure both the open and closed position work on the ground since the engine isn't actually running when it's just sitting there.

Very nice start Waggish! The drilled out exhaust are a real improvement.

I've got some progress done on my 1/72 190 also.

Resin cockpit is all painted up and clear coated. This the first time I've used a resin seat with the belts molded in and I loved it! Looks so much more realistic to me then I can seem to get PE to look. I also opened where the exhaust would outlet and sanded down the three "flaps" farther back as they were posed open and I didn't like the way they looked. Sanded down they look more like they are closed. Does anyone know what these are for and when should they be open vs closed?

Anyway, here a few pics...

I'm going to work on scratching some simple exhaust the fill the space now that I've opened it up.

I am almost finished with it. Believe it or not this tiny scale takes about as long to paint as a 1/72 and with a lot more detail. I bought a new magnifying light and it sure has come in handy over my old junk one. I added the decals and while they are not very good I was able to pull off a plausible 190. I will touch up where it needs, add a wash and should complete it tonight.

Great mottling work in a tiny scale. Not easy to pull off!

Got started on the G-10 and the W-1 today. Cockpit painted. Little bit more painting, and the fuselage will be buttoned up.

Also, I made one simple change which I think add's a lot to larger- scale aircraft- I hollowed out the end of the exhaust pipes. Picture 1 is before, Picture 2 is after.

So that's were that one sits right now- the other kit, the 1/72 scale 109 W-1, has progressed much faster. I swear, though, there is more cleanup on this kit than on an all resin kit. Pic 1 for reference of flash, the rest are just the build so far.

It's been nice, so far. I usually build 1/72, so 1/48 is a nice departure from the norm. It seems like a good kit- not a ton of detail, but enough, and everything fits relatively close to how it should.

 You've got some really cool schemes in this set. I see one on floats. That's epic. You should also post that one up on the Floats and Boats GB and get two badges for one build. I will be watching this either way.

Is there one running right now? When I get her started, if it's still within the deadlines I'll do that. Right now I'm working on the 1/48th one and two 1/144 A6M2's, so once those get done it's time for the pile of flash and terrible maufacturing that is an Amodel kit.

This is what the 190 looks like after tonight. I need to work on the canopy decals and a little wash then add the prop. I added the mottleing using a dry brush.

 

Man that looks good!  I've got a 1/144 Phantom II that I thought was tiny.  I can't imagine Trying to do WWII aircraft in that scale.  Hope to get started on my !90 in the next week or so.
