One more update for the evening:

I wanted to see if those Model Kasten SK-9 tracks would fit the JS-3 sprockets so I cleaned up and assembled a few of them.  They are a very close match to the kit vinyl tracks, just a wee bit smaller:

Do they fit the JS-3 sprockets?  You betcha!!  I couldn't ask for a better fit!

With that question answered its time to start building it!

Waynec, I'm using Fotki.  Tried a few others and settled on Fotki as the most user friendly (for me).  I like their album system and simple sharing links.

With ManCityFan's kind permission I've also entered this partially built Tamiya T-62 into the GB.  It's about 25% complete, but I took a few WIP photos some time ago and I'll post them later.  For now here's what the build will consist of:

Unlike the Tamiya JS-3 which is a newer release, the old T-62 kit suffers from a lot of faults.  I've had this kit in the stash for about a decade and to address the problems I purchased a few aftermarket parts many years ago.  The turret shape is high on the list of problems so I found this at a local hobby convention.  Made by MB Models:

I also found these Armour Track workable track links at a hobby expo:

And these resin replacement wheels.  I lost the label many years ago, but I think they were made by "Tank Maker"(??)

I also have a metal 115mm gun barrel made by....?? and some other assorted AM parts that I may or may not use.

Now I do have the newer and much nicer Trumpeter T-62 kit in the stash, but I just figured I'll build up some of my older kits first and use the AM parts that I already spent money on.  Probably a good way to reduce the stash!!

i am just throwing this out and i know it will be other places but what are you using to host photos since PB tanked?

BA-10 is coming along. was going to open it up but there is not much that can be seen. i am trying VALLEJO surface primer instead of Ace Hardware NOW. can use it indoors but i think the curing time is a lot longer for doing sanding and such. have an experiment going now. also started an AEROSAN for March club contest and have KAMAZ 6x6 and TYPHOON in the queue.

I wasn't able to find much time during the holiday season, but did manage to get the engine-transmission painted:

Thanks Ernest, kinda wish I'd went with the exterior only version, I'm really bogging down here. I did sit down last night and cut out and cleaned up about thirty or so track links while watching YouTube videos.

Actually its both!  The JS-3 is more of a shake&bake kit, should be done quickly. The only change I'm planning is the tracks (if the MKs fit).  The old T-62 has some quirks so I'm doing some extra work to it...both should be fun!  I'll probably bounce back and forth between the two.

I'll start posting pics ASAP!

BTW Gamera, I looking forward to your MiniArt T-44.  I've got that one in the stash, but non-interior.  Its hard enough doing the outside of a tank!

Thanks for the welcome!  I'm looking forward to building the JS-3!

ManCityFan, I noticed the rules say that kits already in construction are allowed?  If so, could I also enter the 1/35 Tamiya T-62 kit that I'm currently working on?  Its about 25% built, just the suspension and tracks done, and the upper hull cleaned up (sprue stubs, mold lines, flash, etc).

Hey Ernest, I don't see why not.  My thought was, if someone just got started on a kit, it would be kind of frustrating for GB to pop up and not be able to enter.

Plus, we get to see another WIP.  Everyone is happy.  Big Smile

I will switch to this project in the roster.

OK, this is my official entry for the GB:

1/35 Tamiya JS-3

Digging around in the stash I found some Model Kasten workable tracks that might fit, even though it says JS-2

And I have this for some reason.  Not sure if it will fit though.

I'll start working on it as soon as the Tamiya T-62 on my bench is farther along.

Thanks for the welcome ManCityFan and armornut!. Sorry I got confused on the moderator!

I'll take a look at the stash when I get home and decide which kit to enter.

Glad to hear you want to take part, I am sure you will be welcome. I'm not the moderator on this group build, that would be ManCityFan, sounds like he's waiting on your entry so I'll pit in a good word for ya comrade.

Hey armornut!. I'd like to join the GB! I have quite a few Russian armor kits...I'm sure I can build one of them.

We would be glad to have you aboard.  Just let me know which kit you would like to build (please include manufacturer and scale), and I will add you to the GB list.

Castel that BTR is looking very nice. What a neat kit. Great job. Keep it up bud. Went to Vancouver and V Island last year for the first time. I loved it. What's the gardens on V Island called? That was the highlight of the trip.

Het all, I haven' abandoned the build, in fact just the opposite, I have most of the turret complete and an ready to lay down my first coat of paint. Yes pictures are required and will come. I'm looking forward to showing it off, both un painted and during the camo aplication. Just want to make sure I won't get dropped for "lack of participation". Doesn't help that I have a nasty cold. So Sackgasse, what camo pattern are you going to employ? Very excited to see and hear your take on this kit. I hope you won't be dissapointed, I'm certainly not.

Sackgasse

Hi,

I have the MENG Terminator in unstarted condition. Unfortunately not the latest version but still interesting.

Or the Trumpeter BTR 80A.

Right now I am having problems with my fotki account so no pictures until tomorrow.

OK if I join the GB with one or both?

Zack

Absolutely.  Just let me know which one you want to start first, and I will add you to the GB list.  I am guessing they are both 1/35 scale?

CN, nice progress on that kit.  We have seen the interior, and it is impressive.

CN: Looks good! And the detail is there in case any judge wants to stick his penlight down in there! (I always wonder, what do you do for a living sticking a light down in dark places like that mister judge? A protologist?) Indifferent

Griffin: Whoops, didn't notice they were OOP. I knew I'd seen a set around somewhere and just grabbed those sites. Hopefully someone will pick up the Warriors line, I too really liked their stuff.

This is where we are at the last few hours of 2017 :-), The top is not glued on and will remain unglued so that the interior could be shown....I don't know to whom except to me :-)

Thanks guys. Gamera I really like that second set in the link. I think its out of production. I'm sure if I tried hard enough I could find a set. Warriors had so many ecclectic figure sets. Too bad they pulled the plug.

Griffin: Looks great! I never think to add stuff like this unless it's already in the kit.

And good luck with the figures. There are a few African tank crew figures but you do already have those so it's faster just to convert them.

Nice detail work, Griffin.    I think the fuel lines look very convincing.  I have to admit that is a detail I most likely would not have thought of.  Your kit looks great.  Looking forward to seeing what you do with the figures.
