The first WIP pix. The undercarriage is done, minus some handles and steps which are too fragile to be instaled now and one small part that has been the victim of the great void. It fell out of my hands, never to be seen again.

Overall, we are looking at some 100 parts here.

That is some nice work, Steve.  Dirty it up a little more, and you are done.

Going to add a kit to the GB, as I will be doing it for the 1943 World at War GB.

Tamiya 1/35 SU-85 that has been following me around for about 30 years.  Gotta finish the KV-1 and an F4F, but this is definitely in the pipeline.

I was planning on 2 but I'll have to see what the future unfolds.

The other is a 1/35 PT-76 amphibious in the water.

I still have a 57 Chev I need to finish.

I did a little more work on the T-72. I added a wash, highlights and some dirt to the roadwheels and tracks. I still need to do a lot of work to the deck and turet before adding any dust to them.

 

That's a neat little kit. It looks great. You're going to be out of this GB in your first week! LOL. How many kits are you building, man?? Haha

To be fair, these are very small (1/144 and 1/72) scales LOL.

Griffin: That colour modulation looks terrific! I know some people don't like it but I think single colour subjects look dull without it.

Sir you are a modeling machine...I believe you have 4 builds going at once?? . The T72 is looking great. Have you had any issues with the fit? The two Revell kits I've built had fit and flash issues. It goes without saying...superb work Steve

 

Thanks Hunter. I used Vallejo Russian green .modulation set. I didn't really follow the directions however. It Russian green mixed with a lighter green on a dark brownish green base. I just winged it till I liked the way it looked. Lol. Its going to be a bit darker when I'm finished.... Hopefully

I got the paint on the T-72, next is the decals, East German, small parts painting, blackin the skirts and weathering.

Well I got some more paint/shading done. I am doing the fuel tanks, screens and tool boxes separately. I want there to be slight variations in greens from one group of parts to another. Like many T-55s were rebuilt from several other tanks and parts were often repainted without any official specification regarding color. Some even had home made rattle can camouflage

I love questions. I teach/facilitate at OLLI. all my students are 50+, most, like me, over 60. No tests, no grades. Facilatators are not necessarily academics, just folks interested in a subject and having a desire to share their interest. We grew up learning about Soviet history through the obvious propaganda of the USSR and through Grman sources (HITLER MOVES EAST, PANZER BATTLES, etc.) ith the collapse of the USSR ithe archives opened up and i use post 1991 books and articles (Glantz, House, Mawdsley) plus Soviet Storm video series on youtube. A lot of fun overturning beliefs, for example Kursk was NOT the largest tank battle (or at least not the battle with the most tanks) and Hitler is not to blame for every majoer mistake, at least not until mid 1944. Also many decisions we see as stupid (because we know the outcome) were not stupid. Wrong perhaps but that is not the same.

It appeares to be a squirrelcage fan, the blades are bolted to the frame and it has a drive mechanism:

Wow Dutch, that looks great. Is the squirrel cage behind the transmission for cooling or is it just a louvered shroud?

 This year was just strange time wise. i just started a HobbyBoss BA-10 6x6 armored car have a BA-6 in the queue and picked up a TYPHOON MRAP 6x6. i am in.

i built one of those. nice build. tracks broke on me but i wired them together under the skirts.

I've built a bunch of MiniArt figures but this is my first vehicle kit from them. I'm pretty darn impressed so far. Only real issue is the soft brittle nature of the plastic which I've had to be more careful than I would with a Dragon or Tamiya kit to keep from gouging with a hobby knife or sanding too much away.
