Looking good Bruce!

Tony,

You can count the Hellcat as done. Here are the pics.

I learned a couple of things with this build. One, just because the parts on the 1:1 were interchangeable, doesn't mean the aftermarket model parts will be. I don't know where Italeri got their measurements for the canopy, but they are very different from the Academy kit. Also, I won't be buying another Italeri Hellcat again. To my eyes it looks too chunky in profile and squat. Since I only plan on building one more Hellcat, I'll stick to the Academy kit that I have in the stash already.

Since I already had the Glossy Sea Blue mixed up, my next build will be Hasegawa's ancient 1/72 F4U-1D Corsair in FAA markings. I started her years ago. Had to pull the wings apart and reglue them today, also squared off the wingtips for a British bird. The cowling was masked and painted GSB. Landing gear doors have been primered. Here's where she was when I started today.

If anyone knows why the Brits squared off the wing tips, I'd like to know. More pics to follow.

I'm getting closer on the Type 4. I haven't had a lot of time the last month. Anyway, I have the exhaust almost completed. The exhaust cans are protected by a screen, which I will show in the next update. Here are the completed exhaust cans:

Next I'll finish off the screens, I tried to bang them up a bit, then will chips and rust on them. Then finish adding the tow cables. I hope to finish the pin wash, chipping and rusting soon.

Then I will attempt my first figure for this tank. Surprise

Steve,

I don't know if I'll get to it in time. I feel the same way about Mustangs as Bish does about Spitfires. I kinda shot myself in the foot with regards to the Mustang as I got the bright idea a couple of years ago to build one of each country that flew the Mustang.  I managed to source decals for all but about five countries that flew the Stang. However, it sits buried at the end of the table while a Hobby Boss F-5E is close at hand and will probably be next after the Hellcat and a kettenkrad for next year's chapter build. It could end up in Bish's Commonwealth GB if it's not too far along.

Tony, I'm so close on the Comet I can taste it. The decals were missing but I found some that I can modify to work. All that needs to be done is add said decals, weather and stick the thing on the base with some mud to hide the missing track pieces.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Thanks Tony. I thought I might be done with Mustangs for a while, but I spotted a 1/72 Tamiya D model box languishing in the far corner of my worktable under a couple of 1/48 Eduard I-16s (I should probably finish those as well) and a 1/72 Zvezda PAK-50. The cowl stripe for the Hellcat is painted and the cowling has been reattached. I'm waiting on canopy masks to arrive (should be here when I wake up) and then I'll paint the canopy and finish number 14.

Apologies for all to the delayed response. You've caught me in a busy moment at work.

I have so many models that I could enter here, I think there's going to be a glut oif them in next year's Shelf of Doom GB.

Lodni, your F6F promises to have an interesting scheme, and is looking very neat as it is right now. As a lover of all things Hellcat, I'm really looking forward to this. You are most welcome here !

Buddy, Your 'Old Crow' is done. Brilliant work, it's a nice model of a famous aircraft, and surely one of the best Mustang schemes. I bet you're glad to get it off the Shelf and into the cabinet. I've used the first photo on page one.

That's the 13th model we've rescued from the Shelf of Doooooooom !

52 days to go in this GB guys, get cracking ! (Self included)

Cheers

Tony

@lewbud,

Fantasic job on the Mustang! I always liked the B's with the bubble canopy.

@Lodni,

I'm looking forward to seeing your progress on the Hellcat.

I look forward to your build Lodni!

As for Old Crow, stick a fork in her because she's done. Really not happy with the invasion stripe decals. They looked somewhat okay before I flat coated them. Afterwards, they started to curl at the edges where they'd been cut for panel lines. Should I ever do an invasion stripe B model again, I'll use them as templates and paint the doggone things.

Either the first or the last pic for the frontpage will be fine with me Tony.

Here's my next salvage project. A Revell/Germany reboxing of Italeri's 1/72 F6F-3/5 Hellcat. She's a little dusty, but should be done by the weekend.

I realize you don't have a lot of time left on the GB but I would like to join. I have a 1/72 Mini/Hasegawa F6F Hellcat that I started for an ARC 'ANZAC' GB back in 2014. Trying to paint my own black & white ID markings really frustrated me - in addition to my airbrush giving me grief! I think I last worked on it in August of 2014. Here it is now:

One thing I forgot to add. The only downside to this group build is that I will run out of display space.

1st world problem ! I've had to start boxing some of mine. Think of the space you're clearing on the bench though !

Looking forward to the Hellcat.

Cheers

Thanks Tony. This got shoved aside after I realized I had accidentally thrown out the clear sprue with the landing light lens still on it. After I bought a couple of extra kits, and I knew that all it would take was a couple of hours to finish it, I just wasn't interested. When I look at my work table, I can count about 12 models in various states of completion. I think my next one will be a Hellcat that I started for last year's Weekend GB. She was just about completed when I realized I didn't paint the white stripe on the cowling. After that, all I need to do is paint the canopy and attach the prop.

I started this kit back in June of 2015 for a flash D-Day build that Gmorrison started. It didn't make it. The last picture I had of it was dated March 5, 2016 and it was in this shape.

This is what she looked like when I pulled her box from the side of my work table last night.

Here she is getting some clear flat put on.

Before I went to bed, I pulled the canopy masking off, installed the radiator inlet mouth and exit scoop, and installed the unshrouded exhausts. I did not take any more pics before hitting the hay. The only real painting left to do is the tailwheel. Just need to decal the landing gear doors and flat them, then install the landing gear and prop and she'll be done.

Bish, Jack, John and Bruce, nice work guys! Yes

Tony,

I may still do the Bf-110, but could you add an Academy 1/72 P-51B to me? She's in Old Crow markings with invasion stripes. I started her for a quick group build started by G Morrison a couple of years ago. Will post pics tomorrow.

Tools look great. Very sharp painting! The weathering on the bar is spot on.

I haven't had much time at the bench the last month. Anyway, here is a quick update on the Type 4.

I added the tools.

I have a piece (not sure what it's called) that will be placed over these tools. I painted it the base parched grass color. However, it was from a different Vallejo bottle and  subsequently was a slightly different shade. So, I had to spray it again from the original bottle that I used for the whole tank. Once I get the piece placed and the hatches intsalled, I'll finish the shadowing.

Also, I put together the Torii and the gates.

They are vacuum formed pieces which needed to be cut out, and lots of clean up. I still have to get them puttied. But they will be placed on this base.

It's a nice little base which really represents a Japanese tank well. I still have more weathering to do on the tank, pictures to come soon.

Thanks for looking.

Falcon,

The F-80 looks fantastic with the decals. I'm glad they worked out for you!

Falcon/John I agree that F-80 looks sweet. Very well done with the decals on the nose. The different shades are paying off as well. Makes me want to build one of these!

That F-80 has come up pretty well John. Nice work, and excellent use of old decals.

That's looking really good John. It looks like those decals held up pretty well. Very cool graphics!

Thanks,   I had to put the decals in the window for about 2 weeks to get rid of the yellowing then a coat of microscale liquid decal film painted over it to make sure they didn't disintergrat,  I only have a couple of small splits to touch up.
