Hi Bish,

Another great subject for a GB!

I wonder if I could join please, with the AZ Models 1/72 Curtis Mohawk Mk III.

I have ordered a set of SAAF decals of one based in South Africa in 1943.

Best Regards

Mark

Bish,

I recieved my decals and have decided to make the Mig-21 of the Nigerian Air Force. Now to do more research on the camouflage of these aircraft. Funny, the decal instructions tell me the aircraft is painted beige and dark olive green.

Edit: Even funnier, I just found I already had a set of Nigerian markings made by Afterburner. I remember looking at this set when I was going to make an Indian bird for this GB! It's OK, you can never have enough decals, right?!?!

Nigerian it is. Sounds like an interesting scheme.

I know that felling, its harder to keep track of the decal stash than it is the kits.

As soon as its may 1st some where in the world, you can start. After all, you know what they use to say about the sun never setting on the British Empire.

Bish, Put me in for a 1/48 Aifix Tomahawk (P-40B) dressed for the dance in the desert. Something that looks like Caldwell's Tomahawk - just no shark's teeth. Eric

Bish put me down for a 1/72 Airfix DH-82 please, it will be in the SAAF "Commonwealth training scheme"

They operated from Germiston airfield during WW2 and since I work at the same field it could be interesting.

Pitty the SAAF never used Stearmans, I am busy with a 1942 stearman at Germiston and it would have been quite "hostoric" :-)

Cheers Theuns, good to see you have a link with the subject. It is a pity about the Stearman.

Last year I built and re-covered a DH-82 left bottom wing at Germiston airfield, who knows that specific tiger might have been maitained at the same airfield 70 odd years ago....maybe even by my maternal grand father who was an aircraft carpenter /mechanic in WW2 for the SAAF  :-)

WOW, you just never know, that wing might well have belonged to the aircraft you build here.

Got your entry on the roster.

Rather the DH 82 for witch I built a new wing last year might have been worked on by him ;-)

I got my kit in the other day for the GB.  Got a good deal on eBay and I think this is going to be a great build.  I had been talking to Bish about what commonwealth to do.  We came up with Kenya..I wanted to do something different...so I researched their Air Force and saw the MD-500.  Bish liked the idea so I pulled the trigger on the kit and I'm really excited about doing the chopper.  My first!  Did someone say it was May 1st SOMEWHERE?!  LOL!

Well, now that the warm up acts, Commonwealth Games and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, are finished, we can all look forward to the main event in 10 days time.
