Theuns, great job on that, she has come out really well. Love the colur and i do like those springbok markings.

Theuns: That's some nice work! As I've said before I HATE painting yellow but yours looks perfect! And again great idea on using the brush hairs as the wires. 

And lol it was hot, most of the animals were just lying around trying to keep cool. And it was a petting zoo, the kids had fed everyone till they were all fat and happy!

Bish - Pitty you  had such issues with your build, it was coming along really well, I have the same attitude with regards to builds. I hope you can recover and get a subject that gives joy.

Gamera - Nice pit mate, coming along a treat. Can wait to see yours done. We have a large mob of Eatern Greys (Kangaroos) on the Island I live on. You need to take care at night as they come in to the built up areas for food (grass) and two many get killied by carless car drivers.

I hope to  have same progress pictures soon.

Ah sorry, I was going to post the holiday photos Monday but then I started applying a wash to the Corsair and thought I'd let it slide to Tuesday. Then I dry-brushed the cockpit etc Tuesday and let them go to today. So anyway here's the photos of the interior washed and dry-brushed. Still need to hit the details.

And I looked though my Eduard PE seatbelts- RAF, IJN, IJA, but no USN... So I guess I'll have to put things on hold till I can get more ordered...

This is what I've been using, AK wash for olive drab vehicles which looks good to me on interior green. And a couple of tubes of oil paints I've been using for about twenty years or so. It was about 85F/29C outside today so I left the model parts in my hot car to allow the oil paint to bake dry.

I understand Bish. I sometimes power through a build that either I'm not that intrested in or went south at some point. Those end up hanging from one of my grandson's celings.

Sorry G, i have been a bit quite on here last couple of days. Please do post those pics.

Well, the MiG has been poainted and i have made a right pigs ear of it. After 30 mins Monday night decideing if this would be the first kit to find its way into the bin, i decideing better of it and just to get it finished as quick as possable. But before the issues, heres how she looked afer building and before some primer and paint.

And then the painting. I had compared the instructions with my paint conversion chart. For the lighter colour i could use Xtracolor 601, and Humbrol 25 for the darker blue, but there was no direct equvalant for the middle colour. So after adding the first colour and masking i mixed some of the lighter 601 with the darker 25. But the result looked more purple and certainly not like the pics. So afer checking the Humbrol range, paints i know i can get hold of easily, i opted for there sea blue. The first coat, out of the tin, was to light, so i then added a spot of 25 and that looked about right. But the result of 3 layers of enamel applied to heavily was a really thick coat which leaft a ridge around the masking and totally filled in the panel lines.

One thing i have learnt ove rthe last couple of years is if the subject does not interest me, i really struggle to get enthusiatic and even to finish it. The only way to fix it would be to strip the paint, but as this kit was destined for e-bay along with other Rusian subjects, until i found these decals, i am really not prepared to spend a couple of days doing that and re-paiting. So i will just get it decaled, flat coated and left at that.

The pics are a bit bright and don't really show up the issues. The first colour is a bit to dark and the middle not dark enough, but it will do.

All being well i will get this finished by Thursday and can put it on a hight shelf out of the way.

Bish: Thanks and looking forward to more on your MiG. Gee, I haven't built a jet in years. 

Damouav: Yeah, I've heard what a kick from a 'roo can do to a guy. But as mammals they don't have that weird herky-jerky movement that a bird like a emu has. Somehow it just freaks me out. 

They had a bunch of grey 'roos which were beautiful and a few of the big reds which were magnificent looking animals. I've got a bunch of photos on my laptop at home. If it's ok by you Bish I'll post them.  

Oh, and they had a couple dingos too....

Back home now and sprayed the interior green on my Corsair. Wish I had something to show but my airbrush acted up and gave me fits so I'm running behind. It's down now in any case with the gloss coat on and ready for a nice wash.

 

Good to see you back G, look forwardto seeing some pics when your able.

I fell a bit behind with the MiG due to an issue getting the right paint. But hopefully i'll have some pics tonight.

Emu are pretty intimidating, but annoy a big Roo and he can gut you like a fish.

We have some of the most beautiful and deadly animals in the world and I like them all.

Thanks guys, truly appreciate the feedback. The AM gear has enhanced the apperance of the cockpit allot. I will get some better photos to show it in more detail.

Work is going to chew into my bench time, but rather be earning than not.

Look forward to seeing the other participants progress in the group build.

I was finally able to remove the cobwebs from my work bench and make a start on my 1/48 Hasegawa P-51D. I'm using Eduard photoetch set for both cockpit and airframe, Red Roo decals, HGW seat belt set, Ultrcast seat and wheels/tyres.

I though I would try out the AK Interactive range of metal paints on this bird and see what she looks like, being my first attempt at a NMF it may be a total disaster.

The build I'm trying to depict is an RAAF P-51K flown in Japan circa 1947.

I just spent several hours putting together the HGW fabric seat belts, the image shows the complexity and scale you have to deal with.

I have other images but I have messed with my DSLR settings and they look bad, very bad.

Making some good progress on my two meteors.

And I have settled on my scheme for the inflight Meatbox.

castel, you have pulled that together nicely.

Cockpit is finished and fuselage together.  Next step is to clean up the fuselage seams.

There's something about the glass partition that catches my eye.

Well, we are getting somewhere with the ol' Gnat

After much filing, trimming and fussing, the canopy fits reasonably well in closed position (dry fit for now)

That round peace behind the pilot's seat, that is too nerrow, looks reasonably well, but only if the canopy is closed, which it will be

The nose cover fits well, wooooow

Issues aside, I think that’s a really cool looking little jet!

AA: I can see the issue with the front canopy but otherwise looks cool!
