Going to put the canopies and blisters on after paint.  Going to use Don's trick of masking for the horizontal frames then the verticals after the horizontals are hand painted. Only two colors on her, sky blue and white/gray.

This thing is strictly old school kit, but going to be a fun little build.  Haven't decided if I want to put her at anchor on water or on beaching gear on ground. Leaning toward a calm water/dock setup.

She was written off after a hard landing not long after getting into theatre.

Got a start on the 'cat.  Going to be marked and painted as "The Wandering Witch", RZNAF.

Fuselage halves painted and side glazing in

Not much to the pit....just a few dabs of silver for the IP

Ready to button up hull, dry fit was pretty decent

Thanks guys!

I can't say enough about the Tamiya 1/48th line of Corsairs. They're simply some of the nicest kits I've ever assembled. Great detail, beautiful engineering, and a joy to build.

Mark: Looks good! Nice work!

I managed to cement together the cockpit and did some work on the wings and lowered flaps. Hopefully the interior is ready to be sprayed green when I get back.

Cheers Bish, Gamera and Hogfanfs.Have got a little more done on the AZ Models Mohawk, but have been limited to priming and painting the bulk of stuff on the sprues.Though I have painted the cockpit and engine cowling and wheel bay. This was Alclad USAAF Interior Green and Chromate yellow. The engine was a two piece, and painted with Humbrol gun metal. The moulding was very suspect and I had to drill out the back, so that it would fit to the firewall.

I also made a start on the IP, and finished it off with a while Flory wash to give some detail to the dials. Though I dont think you will be able to see much when the canopy is on, as it seems a bit thick.

I will try to get some more done over the weekend, possibly get the wings put together and the fuselage connected. Though contrary to my last post, the alignment on the wings does look a bit suspect on the starboard side. So, i think the spare styrene card and filler will get an outing!

Onwards and upwards.

Thanks for looking in.

Best Regards

Mark

Bruce: So far what I've assembled of the cockpit of the HB F8F is pretty much as good as the Tamiya F4U. I'll let you know if I encounter any fit issues with the rest of the plane.

The caves are pretty cool, I've been there before. Just make sure you have some good walking shoes. They have a couple of short tours where you can take two a day and a four and six hour one as well. This time I'm staying longer so if I have to just take a day off and rest my legs I've a few extra days

@Aero,

Nice start on the Tomahawk!

@Cliff,

Let me know how you like the HB F8F kit. I've been eyeing that one for some time. And I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the Corsair!

Also, you'll be a little less than 3 hours south of me in Cincinnati. I haven't been to the caves yet, but we will probably make a trip later this year.

Thanks! And I'd love to visit Australia someday, as well as the UK. I'm just a bit lazy and cheap though right now- I just throw some stuff in my car and go places I can drive. Someday I want to travel more, hopefully when I retire I can get out more.

Gamera

Oh sorry, guess I should have said that I'm intending to take some progress shots before I leave.

Going to Mammoth Caves in Kentucky. Big honkin' cave plus the National Corvette Museum and Kentucky Down Under- a zoo with a bunch of Australian animals. Used to be a pile of armour at Fort Knox but it's in storage now.

You should come to the real Down Under and see them in their native environment. BTW, Kolas are NOT a bear thera a marsupial and native only to Australia, along to Kangaroos, the platypus and numerous other animals.

Have fun and look forward to your build.

Thanks Bish, I hope I don't need them either but they're nice insurance in case I do.

Got a little done last night, am going on vacation/holiday for the next two weeks starting this weekend so I'm hoping I'll have some solid progress done by Friday.

Just got home from work and ready to start snipping some sprues.

Since both the F4U and this F8F get the same paint schemes, interior green and USN blue I'm going to try a duo build here with the Corsair for this GB of course and the Bearcat just for me and not part of any GB.

And for the ghosties, ghoulies, long-legged beasties, and the things that keep swiping my kit parts I have two of these Minicraft/Academy kits I won in raffles that I'm more than willing to use as parts donors. The last Corsair I built some of the landing gear doors vanished, this kit's parts fit just fine.

Well here we go, and I have been looking forward to this. I am building the 1/72 AZ Models Curtiss Tomahawk III in the markings of 70 OTS, South African Air Force in 1943. This is the first AZ Model I have ever done, and although there are not many parts to this kit I am quite impressed with the moulding, and it must be new, as the wing interior is scribed 2017.

I have done a couple of dry fits today, and although it has no guide pins, the fit seems OK, and looking at the amount of flash it will need some clean up but nothing too serious.

The extra market stuff I will be using, will be limited to a set of spare PE seat belts and a spare resin USAAF seat and resin .30 gun barrels, as seen above. I have aslo started priming as much as I can and will start with the cockpit, as usual. Will keep you all posted.

Thanks for looking in.

Best Regards

Mark

Picked the 'cat up on eBay for $9 and change, with $6 additional for shipping.  Cost him $13 to send it......Sent him $7 to cover the additional shipping and make it right with him...he said he showed the money and my note to his daughter, and told her there were still good people in the world.

Kind of made my day a little brighter.  Guess Mom did right in my early days.

Bish

According to scalemates, the first re-release was in 71.

I was given the same kit. The box was really bad. But I still have the plastic
