I just found this group build. I would like to enter a 1:144 Revell flower class corvette. I have started building it about 5 weeks ago. I have some aftermarket PE and some replacment arms from L'Arsenal on order.

This is my first ship build and I chose this because of my love of the book "The Cruel Sea" by Nicholas Mosarrat, which I highly reccomend to anyone interested in the Atlantic Campaign of WWII. There was also a excellent 1950's British movei of the same name which followed the book quite closely.

Oh ye Bruce, good choice mate. I've got to get back to the POW, probably in a fortnight. The Pom Poms I was working on were really a co[k-up, but I found some 3D ones I'm going to snag  I get those in, get back to it and Bob's your uncle.

Would you add a 1/350 Trumpeter HMS York to be completed after my KGV build?

I got the Belfast finished 2 weeks ago and today finally got some pics.This is how she looked before i added some very minimul rigging and atached to the base. The  final assembly had involved adding guns, liferafts cranes and other smaller bits painting off the ship.

I think added a small amount of rigging, just the 4 wires running between the 2 masts, i felt that was enough for this. And then onto the base.

I know its not perfect, a close look will show a few flaws. But i am still really pleased with it. Its my first ship of this type, previously i have only done an old Airfix carrier and a few subs. And seeing as this has been in the stash for about 35 years and somehow survived all that time rattleing around lose in the box, i am just glad to get it done. And it certainly brought make some memories and pushed me to get down to London and visit the old girl again. It was interesting looking at the differences between the model and the real ship after her post war refit.

And one final pic, this time the real ship when me and my better half went to London in Oct.

Wow, Bish! HMS Belfast turned out awesome! I guess I need some better glasses, I'm not seeing any flaws. Great job!

I've never had the pleasure of building that kit but if it's par for other Trumpy kits, it won't disapoint. I do have the Hood you were talking about and very excited to get to her. Now that it's down I got a while before I need to get to it.

Made some progress on the Snowberry.  I got the lower hull painted and somewhat weathered and now it's time to begin painting the upper gull, deck, and superstructures. Basically, pages one and two of the instruction sheet! 

You are heceforth approved to proceed construction in Lauzon Quebec, Canada, later to be commissioned to the Royal Navy and transferred to Greenock Scotland for completion. Whilest she is in construction, proceed to commission and train your crew Captian.

To the office of the admiralty.  Parts, materials, and labour have been requisitioned and all proper certificates and approvals have been acquired from the Royal Navy on behalf of Her Majesty's Naval Service. Therefore, we shall proceed to lay keel on the HMS Snowberry.

Thanks Nino. The camo did worry me, i think thats why it took me so long to buld, just putting off that bit. But really not as bad as i had expected, just had to remember to leave off all the delicate bits.

I think ships look dauting because there is so much to them, and when i look at the builds that people like Steve and other put out, i am always in awe. I certainly ain't up to their level, but its still nice to do something different.

I thought i would go to London later in the year and miss most of the crowds. But that didn't stop big crowds in the tower where we went after the Belfast. She never got to see the Crown jewels.

Bish, That's a great looking model.  I need tons more experience to get to your level of painting & masking for deck and camo application.

The deck and camo look good.
You are shaming me mate, you're going to have two done before I'm half way on my first. 

Been working on the Belfast gradually over the past couple of months until at the start of this week i had the main scheme done.

But the past week i have been working solely on her. I followed Steves suggestion on the wood decks useing Tamiya Deck Tan and a light Raw Umber oil wash. The raised areas around the main turrets don't have any raised deck detail so they are not quite as nice as the main deck, but overall i really like it. Thanks Steve.

With the rest of the superstructure painted and fitted there is only a few smaller bits left to add, though i still have some painting to do.

I plan on starting my Tiger I tomorrow, but i still hope to have this wrapped up by the end of the week.

BTW, the British were naming the corvetts, which were designed and built by a fishing boat manufacture, after flowers (hence the Flower class corvett ) One was going to be named the HMS Pansy....until the name was noticed and scratched off the list.

Actualy, an Arabis class sweeping sloop held that name in 1916.

Steve - May I ask if I could enter the Revell 1/144 HMS Snowberry? I sold the Z-25 Zerstorer earlier this year when I thinned down my collection!

I started on the fishing trawler..

lots of warpage.. 4 days of cementing. The deck is just in place for test fit.
