You know I’ve ALMOST bought an Airfix kit again and again. Now that I have to shop for one i’m almost certain to buy something for myself...no i mean tell my wife to buy it for me for Christmas haha.  I’ve got a trip planned to the LHS for our local club Christmas party on the 17th which should still give me time to get it there before the holiday. Going to be fun.

In the pattern: Scale Shipyard's 1/48 Balao Class Sub! leaning out the list...NOT! Ha, added to it again - Viper MkVii, 1/32 THUD & F-15J plus a weekend madness build!

I got my shopping done. I hope they find it interesting, fun and appropriate to their wishes .

We have a last minute entry that tosses the numbers around. We have decided that one of us will be drawn from a list and that person will get two kits so as to get everyone both giving and receiving.

And the winner is ModelCrazy. Looks like we can expect twice as much fun from Steve.

I have my gift figured out for my giftee, I hope the rest of the elves are having similar luck. I look forward to seeing all the sweet kits on Xmas day.

BK

Bought mine yesterday!

I have no idea how we could do it, but it would make it really fun if you had to ship your finished kit the sender. But, I have no idea how you could ship one of these and have it live through the trip.

I've had some good questions from some of you of just how to go about this GB. We don't really have any hard and fast rules, but we need to keep a few things in mind.

One, don't spend a ton of money on a kit that may make the other builders in the GB feel poorly of what they got. Try to keep the cost of the kit to $25-30ish or so.

Two, try to make it somewhat easy for the buyer by making your wish list a bit broad to make finding a decent kit easier AND TO MAKE IT A SUPRISE to what you get to build. Asking for a specific kit takes the suprise clean out of the season. I like going "hey, hadn't thought of this one, this will be cool".

Third, we need to make this a fun GB and do the best job we can with the gift we get to honor the person that was kind enough to get it for us. Even if the kit is not one you would have picked for yourself, we need to do our best to make it a diamond as a thank you for the gift.

Finally, unless life totally derails your ability to get the kit finished, we need to get these done sometime during the year so as to not disappoint the peron who went to the effort of getting you the kit. This GB has one thing that seperates it from all the other GB's and this is the kit was GIVEN to you out of kindness. Do your best to say thank you by completeing it.

I hope that helps give a clearer picture of what SSGB is all about. Most of all enjoy each other and have fun.

Hey DS, I was just saying to BK the other day I hadn't seen you around in a little while (granted I've been on and off this last year). I just must not have bee looking in the right places.

Glad to see you again.

Thanks!  I have been MIA for a while.  We had a new addition to the family so my free time isn’t what it used to be.  I’ve been trying real hard to get back to the bench.

Looks like we have a good crew of Elves lining up to help Santa out. I am really looking forward to doing another one of these. I, like Steve, really put extra effort into the kit I get to make the sender proud. This is gonna be a blast.

This looks like fun. I will be out of town for about two months so will not be able to work on many of my current projects. Most of my supplies will be coming with me, but I am not able to spray anything other than Mission Models or Vallejo. I will still be taking part of this and the Modern Armor GB.
