Thanks Gamera. I can't wait till the other two colors go on. I'm figuring out the layout of the patterns that will probaly be done with the help of Silly Putty.

Rambo
That's looking great pj. 2.39 tons! Wow so how was the ammo transported for this massive thing? Done think it would be capable of hauling more than two. It must of had a transport team with it.

Thanks Clint. The ammo and vehicle were trasported on trains. They also had a munitions carrier and crane to load this thing firing one round every ten minutes. It took a crew of 21 men to operate.

I spent most of the day painting the German Yellow color. The bottom part is MM enamel and the top is Vallejo acrylic. The MM enamel paint is a tad lighter so I still have to go back and re touch some parts and even out the two colors. The flash makes the top look darker than what it really is.

The top took almos 3/4 of the Vallejo bottle. I have a few Vallejo paints so I wanted to try it out here but I'm not 100% liking it over enamels. It took several sessions and the AB was partially clogged a couple of times even with 3-4 drops of thinner to 10 drops of paint. Vallejo recommends 1-2 drops of tinner per 10 of paint. I also added double the dose on the flow improver which helped but again, nothing like the ease of using enamels.

The mufflers were shot with Alclad and MM metalizers.

The 2.3 ton projectile was sprayed MM RLM70 enamel then given a polish with a soft cotton rag and the least amount of Rub N Buff for a metallic tone. It still needs additional weathering. The darn thing looks like a Ma Deuce slug.

Size comparison of the projectile. I also picked up a nice pre made wood base at HL for $5. Not worth the hassle of breaking out my wood tools to make one.

Gamera

That's awesome PJ! Looks like that shell might weigh almost as much as the Panzer I!!!

Thanks Gamera. That got me thinking so I looked it up. The Panzer 1 was 5.4 tons and the 60cm shell was 2.39 tons. Surprise

Thanks fellas. I started painting this thing and it’s gonna take several sessions and a LOT of German Yellow Paint to cover all the parts.

I decided to go with the lighter tri color scheme since it will make details more visible with washes than the Panzer Grey which is very dark and monotone.

Coming on very nicely PJ. That lump of metal could do some real damage.

That they could. Here is am image of one hitting a building in Poland:

And a couple of videos of the 1000lb JDAM bomb that has about the same yield:

Geez that is one heck of a bang!! I ve seen those JDam videos and that’s a pretty impressive air delivery.

PJ: That looks like it should be more of a railgun and not something on tracks it's massive.

Looks like painting will be next. Don't know which scheme to go with, either boring Panzer Grey or the brighter tri color.

I used up some of those junk plastic advertisement cards we get in the mail to fill in the area Dragon left vacant. In reality it would have gone further down into the hull but for simplicity's sake this will do. This area is barely visible anyway.

The kit includes a metal 60cm projectile.

The tracks, mufflers and road wheels will get painted soon.

The beast is ready for paint.

The driver's cabin.

The seat bottom and instruments will be attached later on after painting.

The loading sled will get the hairspray weathering trick.

Thanks, Gamera, but I finally found it! After hours of tearing through my hobby room, searching through every box of model parts, every container, every HobbyZone compartment, every nook and cranny, I finally found the loose part, which I had stored for safekeeping so that it wouldn't get lost. A little too safely, however, as I forgot where the "safekeeping" place was! DOH!

AA: It's the transmission cover. Sorry I don't have one but hopefully knowing the name will help some.

If worst comes to worse you might be able to throw together a halfway decent looking one with sheet plastic and then if you don't like it slather 'mud' over it to conceal any issues.

Aaaack!  I need your help, folks!  I was building the Pzkw. 1-B, and noticed that my kit is missing a very major part.  This shelf queen has been on the shelf for the past 30+ years, so it's not surprising it is missing a part.  If any of you have this part to spare, part no. 41 on the call-out heet, as shown in the photo, or know someone who has a spare one of these parts, can you help a brother out?

I have run into a questionable area just below the gun mechanism where Dragon left it as one big empty cavity. The gun would recoil into this area once elevated and fired.

I suspect this area was boxed in. I finally found something online showing this detail that needs to be built from plastic sheet.

Thanks PJ, I'm much better now. I should look at the bright side that I did get a lot of work done on the Leopard and Mechagodzilla. On the other hand I've got a lot of stuff further along that needs to be airbrushed piled up...

PJ: Wow, nice start!!!

I need to get photos up of my Leopard. With this sprained ankle I went most of the weekend barefoot or in bedroom slippers and since I couldn't do much else I worked on the Leopard. Got a lot done too so I guess there's something good about all my limping around.
