So after a bit of background what am I going to do with this kit?
Every kit I build I try to do something new, on this one I have a few
1. First kit from Takom that I will build
2. First kit with full interior
3. First time doing a cut away display
My idea for this is just to have it sitting on a clean mono-color base (probably black) with the turret off the hull and sitting next to it.
not sure how I'm going to display the turret, one idea is Meng has a maintenance hull stand or hanging from a hoist.
Another thing I have read about the Takom kit (and the Meng) is they sit to high in the rear since the tank they referenced had the engine removed. I'm not going to bother with lowering it for one I also plan on having the engine removed and sitting outside the tank as well. Even if I wasn't going to do that I wouldn't go about trying to lower the rear by as little as 1mm.
I'll be using Migs King Tiger book that has a lot of great color photos (inside and out) of the King Tiger at Ft. Knox. Also Ryton Publications new reissue of Schwere Panzer with tons of photos and details.
A few of the part trees, thier is a lot in this kit
A lot of what I've been doing is going through my reference books and making notes in the instructions, looking over the parts and making sure that I know exactly where I'm going to cut before I made the first cut. I want to maximize viewing ability of the interior with out sacrificing pieces. As of right now the only thing I'm removing is the three ammo racks on the drivers side. A lot of time has also been spent in organizing parts I've been removing them cleaning them up and since their is so many, taping them down to a piece of paper next to the part number so I won't get any confused since a lot of parts look similar but are different part numbers.
This is the bottom hull with the first cut in it and the interior sidewalls also with the cutaway on the drivers side
