Clint: Looks like you're making great progress to me. I wouldn't worry too much about it, once the subassemblies come together it will really start to look like a tank.

And not sure I'd even worry too much about painting the severate parts, if you're going to close her up or have figures in the hatches you won't be able to see much down in there.

So it feels like I'm not making any headway on this build at all but their is just so many parts and so many subassemblies. One thing I don't get is the med kits and two ammo boxes are molded on the floor plates with so so so many parts I don't know why something like them that need to be painted separate is not molded apart. Anyway here's some of the subassemblies King Tiger 6

Thanks for looking

Off to a great start Eagle. Btw what is the year of that kit?

Late 90's, but no specfic year given on scalemates. based on a kit from the early 90's.

Thank you Bish.  That would make sense concidering it has the small PE sprue.....of course I have no idea when the first kits with PE came out.  LOL!

Thank you sir!  I just looked all over the box and instructions and I can not find a date at all! If there is one, it's in Korean and I have no clue.  Embarrassed  Can't be that old, it had the little sprue of PE for the grills.  LOL!

WOW!  You guys are rockin' this GB!!  Great work.  I'm not worthy to post my build with you guys.  LOL!  Seriously, you guys are inspiring to say the least!  I'm learning stuff just from reading the post!  Thanks!

Here are a couple of pics from the Tiger I'm doing.  The Academy kit is very nice!  No fit issues at all.  The instructions are a bit weird, but we can overcome that.  It's a great build, and I'm working on what version to do and I'm thinking of adding some figures to it (other then the one commander that comes with the kit).  Still nervous about the zimmerit too!  LOL!

This is as far as I'm taking the lower hull for now before first round of painting. going to start working on sub assemblies that fit down over the top of this area King Tiger 5 It was a real PITA to get all them parts lined up just right a lot of dry fitting was needed to make sure they was all inline with each other

So after a bit of background what am I going to do with this kit?

Every kit I build I try to do something new, on this one I have a few

1. First kit from Takom that I will build

2. First kit with full interior

3. First time doing a cut away display

My idea for this is just to have it sitting on a clean mono-color base (probably black) with the turret off the hull and sitting next to it.

not sure how I'm going to display the turret, one idea is Meng has a maintenance hull stand or hanging from a hoist.

Another thing I have read about the Takom kit (and the Meng) is they sit to high in the rear since the tank they referenced had the engine removed. I'm not going to bother with lowering it for one I also plan on having the engine removed and sitting outside the tank as well. Even if I wasn't going to do that I wouldn't go about trying to lower the rear by as little as 1mm.

I'll be using Migs King Tiger book that has a lot of great color photos (inside and out) of the King Tiger at Ft. Knox. Also Ryton Publications new reissue of Schwere Panzer with tons of photos and details.

King Tiger 1

King Tiger 2

A few of the part trees, thier is a lot in this kit King Tiger 3

A lot of what I've been doing is going through my reference books and making notes in the instructions, looking over the parts and making sure that I know exactly where I'm going to cut before I made the first cut. I want to maximize viewing ability of the interior with out sacrificing pieces. As of right now the only thing I'm removing is the three ammo racks on the drivers side. A lot of time has also been spent in organizing parts I've been removing them cleaning them up and since their is so many, taping them down to a piece of paper next to the part number so I won't get any confused since a lot of parts look similar but are different part numbers. King Tiger 4

This is the bottom hull with the first cut in it and the interior sidewalls also with the cutaway on the drivers side

Kameraden

I observe this GB has no Anti-Aircraft protection. So I was thinking of reinforcing the division with this baby

Zvezda1980,

I’d better get back on the build of my 8-ton halftrack w/ flakvierling to provide you with backup!  Must keep those jabos away so everyone else in the GB can continue unmolested!

I was going to start on this GB next but I got something else that came up so its getting pushed back a few weeks. Also can I switch my build to Takom King Tiger?

It's been over a month so I'm guessing It's a no on changing builds?

German Armour

Hi, Bish, I'n regards to your question, I really don't know much about Tiger I, I want info on exterior detail (zimerit, tools, hull, chassis, turrent detail). Also painting photos that I can use would be very helpful.

Thanks :)!

That site Dutchman gave you should help a lot. Tool layout on Tigers was prety standard, from what i recal it didn't change much as it may have on some others. Tiger Zimm was a pretty standard pattern as well, i add my own useing Miliput. For markings, personalley i think the best ones are the 505th's charging knight. BUt i am not familiar with 48th kits or what AM sets are around.

GA, here is a site I found while building my first Tiger. It should have all the info you need.

Hi Sailing Dutchman I can't see the website. You might have to add it to your post. :)

Well for any ideas: marking that are unusual or different. Also how is zimmerit for it?
