Rolling Shelf of Doom GB
Posted by 68GT on Sunday, December 16, 2018 10:59 AM

Hi,

Welcome to the rolling Shelf of Doom GB. It will run from January, 1 2019 till whenever.  Each year will have a different badge for when you complete your project.

The rules are simple and it's to just get those shelf queens and box hermits finished.  It has to be started and it can't be completed.  It could be sitting for a while in a current build, previous GB or no GB.  You just cant start a new build in here.

Please try to post a photo of it's current state then WIP photos.

68GT,

Can I cross over the Type 4 tank I didn't finish in Shelf of Doom II GB? If so, it's a 1/35 Fine Molds Type 4 Chi-To Japanese tank.

I'm in. I'll probably pick one of the kits I didn't finish for the previous SOD build. Will get back to you soon with more details.

The way I look at it is that the only dumb question is the ones that aren't asked.

Looking at the rules from the previous GB I was wondering what a crossover would be to this one.

Ohhh...I've got so many. You know I'm in so lets get that darn T-34/85 (Dragon 1/35 1944 version) finished for criminy's sake!!

At least it's got a coat of primer on.  Here it was at my last update back in April 2017:

Not long afterwards I primered it in black, but never posted the update:

Are crossovers allowed? If so, I'd like to join, with a bomber I have entered in the Bomber GB, still have yet to start it. It's a real shelf queen, probably been on my shelf for at least 20 years! Monogram 1/48 scale Heinkel He-111

Any build that has been lingering a while can enter.  It can come from a previous GB or not.  The only thing you can't do is start a fresh new build in the GB.

68GT please count me in with an AMT Ertl Star Wars Episode I Trade Federation Tank in 1/32 scale. I will pull it out from under the bench and take some pics etc. prior to starting this GB. If I recall it does not have that many parts and is mostly assembled but I have not put a drop of paint on it yet so I think it fits the build? Let meknow and looking forward to this one again!

I may have to get in on this one.I've got at least 3 candidates but I'll have to make sure I have all the parts. I've moved twice and then moved the kits at least half a dozen times since.

Oh, okay. I haven't started the He-111 yet, so I will enter instead with one that has been on the shelf for many years. Painting and some initial construction was done, but not very far along, on this entry: Italeri's 1/35 scale Pzkw. 1-B. It will be a crossover from the German armor GB.

Why not? I've got a Revell/Germany boxing of Italeri's A-6E TRAM that I've been hauling around since the early-mid 1990's. I may even finish it some day.

Yep, I got somthin. I'll let you know when the dust settles, put me down though.

This is the toughest GB to do because you put the thing away due to loss of intrest or because of frustration. It's tough to drum up the will to git er done.

Armor Aficianado,

Holy cow there IS someone with Shelf of Doom kits as old as mine!  Of course we should not be proud of it.  Embarrassed

I too have a bunch of decades-old kits on the Shelf, but I think the failed GB models should be first in line, to pay respect to all the GB hosts.  I’ll have to tuck in my tail and retrieve them (from the SoD, not my nether regions).

Here is my entry; AMT ERTL 1:32 Star Wars Episode 1 Trade Federation Tank. It is actually less together than I remember it when it went up on the "shelf of doom". I have 2 projects I am trying to wrap up this week and will try to get at this one and provide updates soon.

That's a great kit.

I had a hard time getting acrylic to stick to the plastic at first for some reson, so I primed with lacquer.

i am back and this is a good one to start with. i think my last count was 20; some are at the paint stage, some hit that one little snag that makes me put it aside and later i find i have changed interests.

mostly wheeled armor and military trucks but do have a RR gun under wraps. as soon as i figure out where ito upload my pics, i will have a decision.

Here is the revell 1/32 PA-18 supercub I am working on. It was lying in the box with the floor assembled for a long time so now is the time to get it done LOL

The kit has a few issues.

1. The elevators are for a PA-14 cruiser, the PA-18 had counter weights. azy to fix though

2. only one wingtank, again a PA14 thing, the PA-18's had two wingtanks

3. no flaps on the kit wing - PA-18 has flaps

The model I am doing is a L-18c used by the US ARMY to train artillary spotters in the early 1950's. The later more powerfull Supercubs became the L-21.

Anyway, I had to basically build the whole cockpit from sheet and sprue, the seats, all the tube members ect.

If there's room for me to join I have a 1/144 Airfix Saturn V on my shelf of doom. I tooka hiatus after trying to get the F1 engines looking reasonable (and failing). But since 2019 is the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11, I guess I need to finish it!
