GH: You're welcome to post anytime even if we've ended here.

This has been fun, I'm wondering if we should do this again next April Fool's Day...

Been buried at work so not going to get the Sherman done on time.  It's assembled, but the MM 5N Navy Blue is more grey than blue so looking for something else.  When it's donewill post up pics, closed or not.

When it comes to carry shooting hardware, bigger is always better.....ie. my Ruger 1911....beats my lady's J frame .38 like a full house takes out a busted flush.

Appreciate your hosting G....will look forward to a little twisted fun next time around.

Lol Greg, yeah his revolver is quite a bit bigger than the 37mm gun on the M6 Stuart he's commanding!

Holy Hannah, but that's a big hog-leg he's got there! Who needs a measly 75mm, when you've got somethin' like that in yer holster?Cowboy

Can't wait to see the 'big reveal!'

Well, I got the 3D printed figure for the US tank commander (a cowboy, what's more American than a cowboy?) the other week and he's mostly painted. I started on a palm tree for the base last night and the airbrush acted so annoying I almost threw it across the room. Hopefully I'll get it to work this weekend and I can finish up by the end of the month.

I'm cutting him off at the waist so I didn't bother to paint anything lower than the beltline.

BTW: I could extend the GB if anyone really wants to go on with this? I'd though about doing another next year if there's any interest.

Well....My son hasnt quite had the inspiration to build our Osprey Eggs, so an extension would have to be allmost indefinite!  lol

When we do build them, I will definitely add them to the thread whether it's cloased or not...

I did finish 'Little Miss Mischief' over the weekend...here are her "glamour shots":

Justin, your Fort is gorgeous! That two-tone scheme looks great on such a 'compact' presentation. Well done!

The summer has ripped by so quickly...I didn't realize the GB's finish line was looming. I've got one last 'egg' on the griddle of the three I put forward at the start, so here it is--Hasegawa's well-known 'egg' F-4 Phantom:

Nice of Hasegawa to include 2 decal sheets for the Japanese and US versions. However, I think I'll do a few quick 'snips' to turn the -E/-EJ version into and F-4J; I've got a hankering for a little 'Marine Air' courtesy of an old set of laser-printed 1/144 decals in the stash, which should just about fit:

Due to the egg's 'abbreviated' architecture, the radome should work nicely as-is for the shorter-nose -J version. A few hacks as outlined below, and we should be in business.

I'll have to trade the kit's missiles for a little more 'Vietnam'-looking ordnance...and trim up the kit's AF-style underwing pylons to look more like the USN/USMC types.

More as things develop.

it looks like, despite my best efforts to only partially mask, and spray away from the open areas, I got some of my overspray on my aluminum, so I will have to fix that.

Speaking from personal experience...when does that ever not happen? Big Smile

Still, lookin' good so far!

Oh that's cool! Are the markings decals or stickers? Looking forward to seeing how you do the two-coloured fusilage.

The markings in the kit are stickers, but I plan on printing my own decals, and painting as many markings as I can.

here are a couple of in process photos of Little Miss Mischief.  I only got the two construction photos, as I got side-tracked, while waiting for the primer and my aluminium to cure, working on my other build that I started five years ago as a tribute to my grandmother, The Tamiya 1/48 Mosquito.  I just ressurected a five year oldthread with some photo updates...if you are interested, check them out in the 'Aircraft' forum!

Justin: That's really cool! I'll put you down with a B-17 and if your son wants to come up with a callsign I'll post his B-17 on the roster too!

Since he hasn't given me any better call signs, for now, let's call him 'Scout trooper 81' (he is a boy scout in Troop 81...).  This weekend, my wife and daughter are away at cub scout summer camp, so my son and I decided to use this quiet time to build our Osprey eggs!  So, while I wait for is 'almost a teenager' ass to get outta bed, I decided to build my Meng Kids B17g.

I am building her in that mid war/repaired B17g that is basically half bare aluminum and half olive drab,'Little Miss Mischief'.

I have finished principle construction, and will be beginning paint shortly...

Edit: imgur has gotten rid of the mobile version of their website, and you can't get the "bbcode" by just copying the link through the app.  I need to figure out how to get my pics posted and I will get some up shortly.

Ted: That looks terrific!!! The masking came off perfectly! Love her!!!

Just posted her on the front page and thanks for joining us!

Justin: Enjoy your vacation!!! The Osprey's look cool!

PS: Sorry it took me a little bit. Didn't get a chance to use the work computer and it took me four tries to get this thing to work. Keeps locking up on booting and I'm getting rather annoyed...

Well, while here in North Carolina, we did one of our traditional "Hobby Lobby vacation visits" (there were not any close to my hometown...until two days ago!), and we found a couple of Meng Kids' B17g flying fortress kits!  Both my son and I picked up a kit. Of at all possible, we would like to add it to our build list.

He built his same day, I actually want to do mine up as "Chow Hound" ( the-17 with the aft half from a bare metal -17), so I will be waiting until I get home to work on mine.  I have ink jet decal paper on order so I can print the nose art properly...

Ted: Glad you had a good time! GBs aren't that hard to run. You just have to check in and keep on top of things- long as your computer doesn't keep acting crazy...

Ted... That came out great.  Don't know why your flat attacked the black.  Don't let that discourage you on using it.  Maybe give it another try on some scrap.

Est.  Thanks both were fun things from the twisted corner of the brainpan.

Update:  The Osprey eggs that I ordered for my son and I have been delivered!  Now I just have to wait for my son to get back from Summer camp!

His troop leaders are taking photos and it really lookis like he is having a great time!  On his birthday, the leaders of the camp called him to the middle of the dining hall, and had him stand on a bench, and the whole camp sang happy birthday to him, all of the scout troops there sang to him!

So, we should be starting those Ospreys this weekend!

Pics inbound!

Well, other scout projects took precedence on our planned build weekend, and now we are on vacation in the Smokey Mountains, so the build off will have to wait another week....

But here is a photo of the kits to wet your whistle...
