Great job Lost-very nice job of weathering on the Hetzer-and I love the camo scheme.

Lewbud-I think it might have been Chuck Yeager that said it best-something to the effect of always have an escape route planned.  Not happy with how the paint turned out on the Ford pickup-however, I do have a backup plan-the OLD AMT/Ertl/Otaki P-47 Razorback 1/48-I had planned on building it but then decided not to-not a bad looking kit-not Tamiya but it does look like a P-47.  Just started and primed everything-will be using Vallejo Model air paints so it needs a primer.  I am off work until Thursday so I should be able to devote time tomorrow & Tuesday if needed.

Bob, that looks like a good one, looking forward to that.

The Hetzer is complete!

This is how the camo was formed - not a great way to work to a time limit - took me 90 minutes to mask each time!

MIdnight and the camo is complete

Weathered, assembled, touched up and complete with a few hours to spare. I will do some proper photos tomorrow night. Cheers!

Hey all-hope everyone had a happy holiday. I finally got to feeling better & finished the vacation trip to Dallas-back in town for awhile....anyway, got started this afternoon.  Little change though-building the Revell 37 Ford Pickup-newer molds so I figured things would go together better than a 40 year old MPC kit...

Waiting for Tamiya spray can primer to gas off before starting painting-Tamiya acrylics is the plan-gonna try to paint the body here in a few hours.

Congratulations SD! I look forward to your Huey!

Unfortunately I forgot that we had plans for Christmas so I did not even finish the building in time. I will post pictures as I continue, but I am working on the twelve days challenge right now.

Nice work there SD and Ernest, good detail and nice paintwork on both models.

So Ernest has reminded me I didn't do my beer and a build picture, so I am going to have to do another one.

Tamiya 1/48 Hetzer. Started 6:07 this morning.

6 hours n ready to start painting:

14 hours, two coats down

Finally I sprayed a lightened panzer grey on the centers of the panels and the highlights, painted the tires rubber black, used the red oxide to create wear on the high points and corners, and then dry-brushed with Light Sienna Weathering Powder from Vallejo.

Proof of completion:

Final pictures:

I had quite a bit of trouble with water in the airbrush during priming/painting, but other than that things went quite smoothly even when I got called into work and lost 12 hours. Lewbud; you can use the first or second pictures for the fron page. Now that I am finished with this one it is time to get to work on the Huey.

Assembly was completed:

Then primed with Vallejo Red Oxide Primer:

After letting the primer dry overnight I painted it with Mission Models Panzer Grey:

The kit muzzle brake was poorly molded:

So I replaced it with one from a PaK 40 in my spares box:

I'll give this a shot with a 1/72 Hasegawa F-20 Tigershark. I'll be looking to start New Year's Eve when I get home from work.

I have not done any painting in my new house yet so I decided to build this first as a trial to figure out what my problems are and how I should set things up.

The kit is a Dragon 7.5cm PaK 97/38 and the start time is 23/12 09:23.

Morning all-throwing in the towel for this weekend-stomach bug hit yesterday morning-not bad but bad enough for me to crawl in bed at noon and spend the rest of the day/evening there-did have some good ginger ale & oyster crackers for dinner though!  Needed an early evening start time to let the primer gas off and paint today so that went out the window.

I should.... will be able to carve out 48 hrs for a build before the first of the year though.

First off, excellent work being performed here-everyone should be proud of their work.

Lewbud-I'm hoping to get started tomorrow after work-right now I'm thinking about building the MPC Soapy Sales Challenger Funny Car-I always gravitated to drag racers in my youth so this will be a bit of nostaliga...less the finger prints in the paint....I hope....

I get most of the week off for Kerst, so I will be building this weekend. If I am feeling up to it I may even do two this week.

Dave,

Way to go on the Humber! Can't tell that you had a paint problem.

Gentlemen,

I've updated the front page and I must say that there are some fine looking builds on it.

I've got Saturday off, so I might try for one of the 1/72 Dragon Humvees. Anybody else building this weekend?

Sorry to hear about the paint problem dwsrazor.  It still looks pretty good to me though!  Wouldn't it be cool to drive one of those around town!?!

Well I am not very happy with the final result. The paint crazed when I applied the wash so I was not able to blend in the wash very much.  I skipped the primer coat which and I have done that before and gotten away with it but I guess the paint was too fresh or the bottle was too old and it did not adhere to the plastic very well.  I will let it sit for a week or two to let the paint harden and then attempt some touch ups and further weathering to cover it up.  For now though here is my finished build.

Lewbud you can use that last photo for the front page

Well after a bit of a rest and some food (finally!) I set up the photo booth and took some pics of the Su-85.  Lewbud, pick your favorite for the front page!

For an old kit it actually went together well.  Most of the parts were suprisingly free of flash, mold lines were minimal and most of the parts fit very well, especially the upper hull. The weak points were the wheels and fuel tanks, holdovers from the ancient T-34 molds.  Both took an exceedingly long time to clean up.  Of course the sponsons were missing so I had to scratch a pair from styrene sheet.  Built mostly OOB except for the ice cleats which were way overscale.  Found some better ones in the spares box.  I added a resin tarp and sack, just to add some color variations to the monotone paint scheme.  Also I decided not to use the kit decals instead opting for dry transfers for the unit #s and I hand painted the recognition stripes on the sides, hence the messy paint job.  In retrospect I should have painted one on top of the hull!  Ooops!

To celebrate each successful Weekend Madness build I take a pic of my current favorite libation next to the model!  Cheers all! Toast

Lewbud, thanks for another great GB!  If I have time before the end I'll try one more...Whistling

Thanks Lew!

Well here it is!  Just took 47.75 hrs to complete and I am dead beat!Dead Started at 6:00 PM Friday, finished at 5:45 Sunday.  Had to clean up the bench enough to take a pic of completion:

I need to grab a bite to eat and then set up the photo booth to take some worthy pics!  Be back in a few!

Ernest,

The SU-85 looks fantastic!

Dave,

The Humber is looking good! I was thinking a couple of days ago what to try next and one thought was to dig out the set of Dragon Psy-Ops Humvees and build one or maybe both. I can have one together and ready for paint in about an hour.

Looking good Ernest!   Paint job came out great!

Managed to get the paints and decals on tonight so I am in good shape.  A wash and some weathering tomorrow, install the wheels and should be done with time to spare.
