Weekend GB 2019-See you in November!

dwsrazor - the Hetzer came out great, luv the camo job!  Too bad it didn't make the deadline....been there, done that!!   I really like that tiny braille scale Humber...got a thing for armored cars!  A couple more hours of assembly and it will be ready for paint - plenty of time!

Su-85 update:

Almost 16 hrs in and she's out of the paint booth.  Spent most of the day just getting all the little fiddly bits installed and, of course, a couple of wee parts sailed off into oblivion.  Wasted at least an hour searching.   Fortunately I found some extras from an old Tamiya T-34 sprue...yay!

I used the "Black & White" technique for painting.  Primed with Stynelrez Black, highlighted with Tamiya White and the base color was mixed from Mission Models Modern Russan Green and British Bronze Green, roughly 50/50.  Gotta finish assembling the wheels before bed and tomorrow its decal time!!

First up is my finished pics of the Hetzer.  Did not make the deadline on this one but I did finish it eventually.

For my next attempt I pulled out something a little easier so that I can get a win.  If this goes well I may attempt a third build for this.

After 2 and a half hours at the bench the assembly is almost complete.  The wheels are not glued or cleaned up yet.  I might get to the paint today but have some commitments tonight so we will see.

Well its almost 1 AM on Sat morning and I'm calling it quits for the evening.  5 hrs of work (dinner and The Mandalorian took a couple of hours! ) and the upper hull is almost done except for some fiddly bits that I'll install right before painting.

I'm feeling pretty good so far....my goal is to have it all painted up and ready for tracks on Sunday!

Hey Tony, the Me-163 came out great!  I really like Hobby Boss's Easy Assemly kits, especially for quick builds like this!  Detail isn't bad for something you can put together in a couple of days!

And we're off!

Yeah Buddy, the time can get away fast. I forgot to add the stick to the Zero as well but the canopy attached so nicely, I didn'y want to mess it up to put it in.

Now for my latest adventure in poor time management skills. I set out to build Fujimi's 1/72 EA-6A. The plan was start at 2000 hours on Sunday, which meant I would finish her as I had to leave for work on Tuesday evening. Unfortunately, I got started a couple of hours late, and my lollygagging got worse from there.

First pieces glued together.

There were several of these to contend with.

The wings.  There is a wing fence missing that you have to add in construction. Don't know why they didn't include it in the mold.

The beginning of the second day. This is when things started to go off the rails time managementwise as I had the day off, I figured I had plenty of time. I was wrong.

I forgot how complex a shape the A-6 airframe is. The fuselage consists of five pieces for the basic airframe, two halves, and three pieces to complete the underside. Fortunately the fit was very good and ran along existing panel lines. The top of the fuselage, not so good.

Here's where I called it a day, roughly 27 hours into the build. I forgot to take pictures of the completed cockpit and the intake and exhaust trunks that are hidden by the closed fuselage. I had to take the seats and control stick out so I could get the instrument panel in. At least it was looking like an airplane.

And this where I called quits after getting ready to come into work. I reinstalled the seats (I think I forgot the control stick) masked and installed the canopy and primered it. To be honest, I was quite apathetic towards this build at this point and was planning on writing it off, but I thought I would at least try to get the underside white painted before going to work. Unfortunately, I rushed the job and ended up with some paint runs, which means having to wait a couple of days until they dry and I can sand them off.  Here is where she sits now.

I'll try again, just don't know with what yet. I had plenty of time, I just didn't utilize it correctly.

I have finished my Hetzer and will post some pics as soon as I can.  As I did not make the deadline with that one so I will start another one as soon as I have a couple of days to spare again.  Maybe this Thursday or Friday.

This thing really was mayhem, I don't recall any previous one being this mad. I didn't know if I would make it or not, but I've just scraped in, and I've ended up taking the photo eight minutes late because I was stuck on a conference call and couldn't use the camera. Here are the rest of my WIP shots and the completion photo.

According to the rules "1. All models must be 100% unstarted."

Does this mean that all the sprues must be intact? If so then I may not be able to take part in this build as all the kits that could be built in time have the sprues dismantled so that I could bring them with me overseas.

Parts can be off the sprue, but no assembly. Have a good trip.

Nice work on the Defiant there. I've finally finished the Condor 1/72 Me 163A, which didn't make the deadline...

Now I've started the Hobby Boss 1/72 ME 163B, which will be finished as Spate's all red Komet, which was my original plan. The decals are from Printscale.

Hey Lew, I was planning on building the SU-85 this weekend, but I have too many other projects to finish first so I'm postponing the build til next weekend.  Turns out that weekend is better anyway since I have Friday off!

I have to agree with Mawright20.  With the family in, moving into a new house, not being able to find all my modeling stuff!  LOL!....this year was a bit more challenging then the past.  But that is good!  I love a challenge!

Construction more or less complete. Need to hand paint the 20mms and a few bits. Only bugaboo with this kit is the way the wheels go together, you have a seem on the inboard side of the tire. The Mr. Surfacer used to fix that doing something screwy is the only thing that would have me pushing the deadline. Off to paint, 23 hours left. 

Congratulations Mongoose, Eagle, and Mawright! The front page has been updated with Mongoose's and Eagle's pic, just need a good pic from you Mawright!

To those that have gone into extra innings on their builds, keep at it. Don't let them become castaways on the Shelf of Doom.
