I'd like to join with the 1/72 Mach 2 Sud Caravelle.
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
welcome all, front page updated :-)
Theuns
GMorrison,
That Caravelle should be impressive!
The Shuttlecraft cabin is finished:
Next up is the landing gear. No locators are given, AMT wants us to just give it a WAG!
I made some locators with a drill.
Done!
The aft one will be more interesting to locate and glue.
Decal time:
Watching over decaling is a 50 year old kit built by a friend in the '70s.
I'm using the original kit decals. I figured this is an OOTB build. They were actually in good shape.
They are very hard to work with. Very thin and they don't want to come off the paper.
They fold under, tear, and don't move well once down. I used Micro sol on all of them and set on some. They are drying now.
I still have to mount the tail gear, clear coat the whole ship, and install the front window.
As bad as the kit is, It is really starting to look nice! I like the colors I painted it.
Those markings really make it pop, glad you were able to make them behave!
Whew, I'm calling it done, still have to paint the wingtip lights, I see. I haven't built one this quick in a long time! Great little kit, fit is excellent. Engine looks undersized to me, but I don't look down there much.
I've said it before, but Nice Jug! Well done!
I drilled 2 mounting holes for the rear gear and glued it on.
Tomorrow I'll glue on the gear pad.
This kit is engineered in ways similar to the Heller airliner kits, no surprise, The bottom wing is in halves, but they match edges in the middle of the belly. It makes sense to attach them to the fuselage before attaching the top halves, as you would with a Heller kit.
The clear windshield is a section that includes a part of the cabin roof, much like the Heller 749's. I'm not including any interior so this will go quickly. For reference, the kit has a nice interior with seats, partitions and the rear boarding stair.
The cabin windows are all individual parts and didn't fit at all. I installed them in each half, rather than run the risk of popping one in.
It's starting to look like an airplane. UAL Caravelles; N1001 through N1019: did not have the dorsal fin along the top of the cabin typical of the rest. I've sliced it off, will finish it with the remainder of the seam work. Top wing halves on. Glued them against the sides of the fuselage roots, and will glue down around the edges once that sets. I like doing this when possible as it really minimizes the gaps up top. It's a tradeoff to then have to do some fitting around the edges.
Engine pods in rough construction.

WIP..all primed up and ready to go...

I il update the front pge with a pix.
The Shuttle now only needs a Cpt Kirk , Mr Spok and "Bones" as a landing party LOL

The rest of the kit I found is not a great fit and needs to be wressled into place. Glue small sections at a time.
I decided to drop the flaps to add a bot of feel
The Allo if still figthing me all the way but I will beat it into submition still.

And Here is the good Doctor in a test fit to match up the Object source lighting....
"...failure to do anything because someone else can do better makes us rather dull and lazy..."
Mortal as I am,I know that I am born for a day. But when I follow at my pleasure the serried multitude of the stars in their circular course, my feet no longer touch the Earth...
mississippivol Whew, I'm calling it done, still have to paint the wingtip lights, I see. I haven't built one this quick in a long time! Great little kit, fit is excellent. Engine looks undersized to me, but I don't look down there much.
This looks amazing! Makes me wanna drop everything and get started on it! lol Nice work!

On deck: Who knows!
Nice, a car! cool.
Justinryan, Your base/back drop look excellent!
Theuns, that eagle pit looks great! As does the Alloette!
My Shuttle is done!
Boy its a crappy kit, and I was tempted to start modifying it. But I held fast to the OOTB build. I added nothing but paint and glue.
I'm happy with how it came out, for such a bad kit it can be built up to look nice.
No matter the issues, you made it look just like a studio model!
So here's the start of my first automobile model. Parts count is pretty low but despite the new looking box, the kit goes together like it's somewhat old. The chrome tree was definitely something mass painted in a factory, so I used a little Clorox bleach to strip the chrome. Four base coats of paint and two coats of gloss and the body is basically done. Next, the body gets sanded and painted.
Excellent work all around y'all! Theuns, I built the Revell kit of the Mudhen and loved it.
The Doctor is starting to look at home in his new surroundings, and the shutlecraft came out great!
Mopar, welcome to the show!
So I got started on the Monogram P-47N today. Its not much but its started.
On Ed's bench, ???
Boy that shuttle looks fantastic, I can just about hear the Theremin :-)
I will post a pix.
Chad I got you on :-)
Great start on the Jug.
If anyone has an idea for a lockdown badge please post it.
Still a WIP...I'm not the best at figures yet but I'm getting there. Medusa is done but now on to make parthenon columns that are broken for the base.
Thanks everyone! The Galelio was a fun build!
Mopar Madness, What color will your Viper be?
CJ2785, that medusa looks creepy! Well done!
Lots of awesome builds going on here!
I am officially calling build number one Finished!
Here is the good doctor:
I made sure to mark the base for posterity...
Wow! the good Dr looks great!
I really liket he Light effect.
Justin that Dr. look fantastic, I especially ilke the lighting effect :-)
I updated the pix page.
As for the allo and the F15. I have entered the dreaded filling and sanding phaze...the part of the hobby that I hate the most! The F15 kit is alot worse in this regard than I had expected, the nose fit especially is not good.
This tends to break my build "moe joe" untill it just irritates me so much I beat it into sumition LOL
I am hoping to get some plastic time this week.
Getting to nose to fit this model is a real PITA, loads of filling and sanding to break my moe joe.
Hopefully afther ths is will be easier.
