Found my Tamiya Zero in the box of broken aircraft. It’s an A6M3 and not an A6M2 like I remember. Think this was built eleven or twelve years ago and its seen better days.

GS the Tony is looking good. I know what you mean having to work in a cold garage. We had several mornings in the high 30s to low 40s and my garage felt like a freezer.

I have been masking the canopy with thin Tamiya tape and is very time consuming. I should have ordered an Eduard mask set for this canopy.

Great work on the Yamato turret, Steve!

PJ, the Zero is looking good and you are making some good progress. Think I’ve built that kit three times now. Think I still have a built one hiding in a box of models damaged during a move.

The Tony was painted earlier last week. Tamiya AS-12 Bare Metal Silver was sprayed over gloss black base. This is the first NMF I’ve done and just went the easy route using a spray can.  I’ve gotten rather burned out on model building lately so the Tony is being built for fun.

Still need to paint the tail section red, anti-glare panel and some other areas. The weather has soured in the past couple of days so I’m putting the Tony on hold till it improves. I really don’t like painting in a cold garage.

Gamera - Can you put me down for the 1/700 Hasegawa Light Cruiser Tenyu please?

It's the "limited edition" version, with all sorts of PE included to make me lose the few marbles I have left.  Stick out tongue

Not sure if it was him. I just remember some ace making the comment. And I believe he did get a serious chewing-out over it. Not sure if he got anything beyond that.

That's correct, He was raised in the Bushido code. He was totally against the Kamakaze and thought it was a complete waste of a life.

Was it him that when orders were going out to sign-up 'volunteers' for kamikaze missions he made some comment about rigging the planes with passenger seats so the senior officers ordering the suicide missions could share in the honour as 'observers'?

Im surprised he wasn’t punished in some way. I’m sure the brass looked the other way due to his reputation. Sounds like he was an honorable man.

I read the first version in high shool or whenever it first was published, and a copy of it is still in my library.  Later versions are a bit different, there is a claim that co-author Martin Caidin took some liberties.  My first window in to the Japanese culture and war machine.

Did you read Sakai's book Samui PJ?

No I haven’t. I do know he came from a Samurai bloodline and after the war swore not to kill ever again, even a mosquito.

I built that one not too long ago, in Sakai's markings.  Not quite up to the newer Hasegawa Zero detail but a nice kit.  Once built I can't tell the difference.

Steve

I did Sakai's once before but want to do some hairspray chipping so I need to go with green top and grey belly. Think I'm gonna go with Iwamoto's plane. I think he was the top scoring ace and had quite a combat career. Sadly he died at a young age in 1955 due to a medical diagnosis screwup.

I've built several Tamiya Zeeks and love 'em. I bought that that kit last year. Are you going to do Sakai's mount or an Akagi bird?

Steve: Wow oh wow!!! That's looks spectacular!!!

I know what you mean, I've gotten that error code a few times myself. Just posted you.

Sorry no badge yet- the guy doing it has had some computer problems. He's done the sketch but can't email it. Hopefully I'll have it and send it off to Jack soon.

Clif, I tried to upload the completed Yamato turret last night but I was getting that infamous 403 Forbiden code.

So I'm trying again.

Use whichever pic you want.
