Steve: Yeap that's it! There's also another movie with a similar title out there it has a kaiju but no Yamato. Haven't seen it. Reigo I saw on Amazon Prime so I didn't have to pay any extra for it. On YouTube for free yeah it's worth a watch- just not sure I'd pay for it.

Not sure you need subtitles for it. The Yamato is escorting a convoy and Reigo attacks. There's some stuff about getting an American POW to help aim the guns and flooding tanks on the side of the ship to get her to lean over enough to target the monster at point-blank range.

I found it on YouTube but it doesn't have subtitles. It doesn't sound like Japanese but of course since I don't speak it.....

Steve: That looks superb!!! Heart

Real G: 'Reigo' is a fairly recent film. It's the world's biggest battleship against a Godzilla knock-off! I had to see this movie!!! But honestly it's terrible.

I don't hold having a tiny budget against a movie but don't cash checks your film can't cash. I mean we've got a small room, a table and chairs like you might find in a conference center, and a couple of guys in Imperial Japanese uniforms and they try to pass it off as the Yamato's briefing room.

And yeah the Yamato made a friggin' awesome space battleship!

Gamera

Steve: That looks good!!! You may not have weathered that heavy but I love how it looks!!!

And the Yamato did see some service- she fought a giant sea monster. It was in a movie so it must be true!

BTW: Seriously avoid this movie- it's not so bad it's good... it's so bad it's AWFUL!!!

Oh man Gamera!  I never heard of that movie!  And I was a kaiju junkie as a kid.

You know, the Yamato also fought Ultra Seven - evil aliens rebuilt the hulk of the sunken ship and made it into a robot bomb!  It was called Iron Rocks.  Or Locks.  Dang, Japanese is a tricky language!

And we all know that later on the Yamato was fully rebuilt into a space ship.  Stick out tongue

The turret is almost done. I finished the deck and ran the railings. I need to tone down the rust on the top of the turret before spraying a flat coat. A couple of passes with some Turpenoid should do the trick.

I thought I had a picture of the finished deck

Oddly eneough, I believe the Bruno is arriving today.

Robert, I had heard rumblings of a New Jersy turret but have not seen factual evidence of one yet.

Great job there Greysnake, she's moving right along. Sounds like a good idea on the stabs.

I really like those turret kits!  Would love to get the Yamato and the Bismarck kit, but judging by these pictures it looks I just don't have the shelf space for them.  If Takon ever releases a US battleship turret, I will probably cave.  Would love putting the bright insignia red paint on the top of a 1/72 Arizona turret.

Turret is coming out great Steve.

Made a little progress on the Tony today got the canopy masked out. Tomorrow I’ll airbrush the frames on the canopy as the weather is going to be really nice. Not going to put the horizontal stabilizers on till much later since they are red and will save me the trouble of masking.

Yeah I kinda wonder if she hit the same point as the DKM Tirpiz, too important to lose so she sat in a dockyard during most of the war.

Reigo is honest to God horrible, special effects that look like they came out of the 1995 computer game, a plot that makes little sense, and acting- well our church's Christmas play has better acting...

I gusee the Japanese need it to do something. It's funny how the Yamato is such a huge pride thing where the Musashi, which was an improvement over the Yamato is kinda meh.

I haven't gotten to that point yet Cliff.

I have been painting both the base and turret. The turret is done and the oils are drying before I string the wire. I still need to paint the blast bags once I mix up a color that looks right. The deck color was hard to match since the Japanese decks were more yellow than ours or the Germans but I think I have the base coat done. Now I need to add some oils.

I did not heavily weather the turret because the most action the Yamato saw was in port. She was commonly know as the Hotel Yamato.

She traveled around from base to base but the only major action that I'm aware of was Midway, where she never was in battle, the Battle of the Philippine sea where she fired at Japanese planes by mistake, The battle of Layte Gulf while during the Battle of the Sibuyan Sea, she lost her sister ship Musashi to naval air attack, the battle off Samar where she hit the DD USS Johnston and the CVE USS Gambier Bay with her main guns, both ships were lost to enemy fire. Operation Ten-Go was her last sortie when she left port on a suiside mission to defend Okinawa. The Allies intercepted and decoaded raidio transmissions which allowed the Americans to spot, track and eventually sink the Yamato where she lies 290 Km southwest of Kyushu and under 340 meters of water, her turrets falling out of their barbets long before she settled on the bottom.

First coat on the deck

Turret complete except for a dull coat and the railings.

Anyone who is planning to build this kit, or the Bruno I would assume, could really skip step 2 I believe. I found that the barrel receivers installed in this step are a redundant step and since you will be glueing the balst bags to the turret glacis, are unnecessary. I had a hard time seeting the barrels into the recivers all the way so I removed them.

Steve: The beading wire looks good so far. So how it going? I hope it's working out.

I swung by the local HL today and picked up some bead wire, thinking that may work for the railing.

I'm thinking that may work, at least better than monofilament or thread.

After looking over the entire build repairing any bent or detatched items, I cleaned it up and painted my customary black base. I'll lightly sand down the deck to remove the top coat before painting it.

Thanks, Gamera.

Steve, thanks and you are making really fast progress on that turret.

Got a few parts painted in the garage today before it became too cold.
Next step will be masking out the canopy.

Turret is looking very nice, Steve.

Started work on the Tony yesterday. Had to get used to work with tiny parts again as this is the first aircraft I’ve built in a long time.

Insides were sprayed Tamiya XF-59
Started detail paintingon the pit late yesterday evening.

After three hours I had this.

And this

I’ve always liked pilots in my aircraft and decided to paint the kit included on. The figure is not up to the quality of the aircraft sadly. Still need to paint the goggles.

The wings and fuselage were glued together this morning the fit was amazing.

Here is where I’m at right now the fit on this kit is perfect. The wings just snapped into place with the fuselage with no need for filler. This is the best fitting aircraft model I’ve ever built.

That's so cool Steve! Did you make the gun bags out of tissue or did they come with the kit?

I don't believe I have the room for a 1/72 Yamato, although that would be AWESOME.

It's been a few days. Sanding the barrels and adding PE to the turret. Here is the result.

The barrels have the black primer to help find where I need to work on the seams. Those I found I added a small amount of thin CA and will sand them smooth tonight. Just a few more parts and ready to paint.

For those who will be building this, the stanchion poles are VERY fragile and break easly when removing them. In fact, I believe some were already broken. They are easy to repair and Takom gives you a few extra. Looks like I have a few to streighten.

I got quit a bit done to the Yamato turret. This is a neat kit. Easy build, good fitting parts with just a few adjustments on the rangefinders. While the filler is drying on the rangefinders, I assembled the barrels, which will need some work to get smooth.

Once I have everything sanded down, I will install the railing. Takom supplies some monofilliment for the railing but that won't allow the sag shown on the limited pictures avaliable. I'm thinking stretched sprue but will have to give that some thought.
