I figured, based on pics of the real bird.  Tamiya calls out 'Transparent blue-green on silver undercoat'.  

So i picked a float boat to join in with. Please put me down for the 1/72 consolidated pby-5a black cat catalina. This should be a good one for my first back to the bench. Thanks for letting me join in and i will get some progress pics up soon.

If the build itself goes well I am going to try to do a water takeoff diorama base for it. I have some insulation I bought a while back I wanted to try out and this is the perfect application. This one is flying above the water. Maybe nose up just about to take flight.

That sounds super cool. Something I have to make myself try, I just keep avoiding it. One day for sure.

Head renewed, stomach full, carved up a bit, redid his collar and added a scarf.

The Seamew is completed. I used some wood pieces to make a stand then glued it on a small wood base.

Jack, the cat looks great. I love those Cats so much, I am super pleased you joined with this one. Looking forward to watching it come to life.

I have been giving my bench a break over the past few weeks, both getting my back in order but just taking a small break before I hit it hard again. The Kingfisher is ready to go, I just need to clear off one more kit about 90% done and its on.

It's been nearly 2 months since my last progress report. The camouflage painting and decals on the hull of A24-17 are completed and there is a coat of varnish on the hull. Canopy masking and wing assembly is in progress.

The camouflage is RAF Temperate Sea Scheme (TSS) this aircraft was delivered to RAAF service with in January 1942. A24-17 would retain the TSS camouflage during combat operations in the South Pacific until soon after its first major overhaul at Lake Boga, Victoria, Australia in August 1942.

I was able to get some work done here. I am so glad I found some Tamiya tape to tackle my first glass since coming back. I had some knockoff stuff that looks scimilar but isnt as pliable. I am going to sand a bit more and might start working on my base this week also. I have never done a "black" scheme before and would like to do some weathering. Any suggestions on how to pull that off on black are appreciated!

My art teacher from many moons back told us that there is no black, just various forms of greys. Since then I have looked at colors through the lens of what shade of grey am I working with here. In your case, and only my 2 cents worth, is you are working with faded dark grey. I would paint it overall dark dark grey but avoid too dark. Then i would post shade it with lighter greys in a moddled fashion on each panel. I would apply some light streaking in areas where water would be forced along the wing and fuselage by air movement and add some water line discoloration. But that's my take. It's your kit and you need to build it as you see it in your mind.

I wanted one that could handle large and small aircraft models. After using this building berth for a 1/48 Eduard Spitfire and 1/48 Monogram PBY I am very satisfied with the way it works. I don't use it for painting because I want to keep it nice, but it works well as a drying rack after painting, as a holder while applying decals and as a display stand while work is in progress.

For those not aware by now. Our good friend and long time forum member Goldhammer, Art Waugh has passed away. Art was always a great guy and always had kind words to say and great advise to give. He was truly a friend indeed. He will be sadly missed. My GB's will always be one man short now. Godspeed my friend, I have updated the roster. 

Before Art passed I had a chance to visit him this last April. He knew his time was limited then and he gave me his kit entry for this GB. In his honor I am going to build that kit for him in his absense. It's the least I can do for such a dear friend. Thanks Art!!

So, I've begun the Kingfisher. I've heard it has fit issues. Well, so far every single locating peg is larger than its corosponding hole. Everything lines up, just nothing wants to fit together. I've had to drill out every hole and ream out square ones. It looks good, super detailed. Just slow going. I'll post up some pics as I get more done.

I am also working on the kit for Art. Simple little Cesna floater. The glass is smaller than the openings, so that was fun. I'll post up some pics soon on it as well. This one will build out pretty quick. The Kingfisher is gonna take some time, alot of time it seems.

After the input from the board here and then further research it appears the black cat should be "black" over a coat of chromate primer. That being said i have the first coat of aluminum on and it looks OK so far. It looks ready for the chromate coat. I will get some progress pics up soon. Thanks for the feedback on the scheme guys!

Okay, so I have about 10 ish hours in the engine thus far on the kingfisher. Every part needs to be massaged to make it fit but once done, looks great. Tons of small bits, 99 parts on the engine and forward bulkhead alone. I've spent most of my time thus far working under a 4x magnifier. This kit is not for the faint of heart or those wishing for an easy, quick build. It'll look great when done, but when I'm done I will be done in.

I built out the PE seat belts and added the lifting cable which Eduard and the kit fail to supply, and don't mention. But the kit has both ends there, weird.

The Cessna has the side glass installed so I'll mask that up and paint the interior. This one will go quick once I get that going. More to come on both.

That is over the top Brandon! I am not sure I spend that much time on most kits total.

So I added some salt and a coat of zinc chromate and I am worried I have a mess on my hands. This is my first time trying salt method and I feel like the vallejo acrylics didnt do well with the salt. I think I might have sprayed when it was still too wet. That being said it looks better now that its dried and I have to go ahead with my black/grey. No turning back now. I will keep taking pics and get some up soon.
