Ive finally decided on a kit....I think...

Its been a toss up between several kits, but now that the game is afoot, I'm pulling the trigger.

The kit I've decided on is a strange one...it is Victory 356 Hawk Ekranoplan: and I am planning a little twist on it as well... I've been sitting on this one for a while now.  The time for this kit has come!

What's the story with this fish-bird?

honestly....I have no idea!  I saw it somewhere, and instantly had an idea for a build, and had to have it!

"...failure to do anything because someone else can do better makes us rather dull and lazy..."

Mortal as I am,I know that I am born for a day.  But when I follow at my pleasure the serried multitude of the stars in their circular course, my feet no longer touch the Earth...

I'll have a rummage through the stash & let you know when I've decided.

Well, I think I'm going to go with the Tamiya SAS Jeep, this will be a crossover with the "Off to the Theater" GB.  I don't know yet when I'll be able to start it, but I'll try not to leave it too lateBig Smile!

Thanks again, Bill.

                         Hutch.

Vell, Zaphod's just zis guy, you know?

I'm definitely in. Haven't been here for a while, it's been one of those years. Can I build on a different weekend, as I'm getting a huge load of instant turf delivered to my house that weekend. Put me down for an Airfix 1/72 Josef Stalin III tank please.

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Great to have you Justin,

ok and remember, leftovers from last year start on the 18th.

I will up the ante with a bonus token soon.

I know how hard the politics get with a 48 hour deadline, so there'll be a glass of wine pause available for 4 hours during the 48.

the idea is to honor Buddy and maybe raise a glass to his large fuzziness in the heat of battle.

Welcome, Brandon, Scott and Dave.

Dave it's been too long!

The new feature is "last years leftovers".

For the week preceding the WM build, past Calvins are invited to finish off the carcasses that have been in the back of the feezer from last year.

I haven't done this one since my first go as this is a busy time of year for my business. I will give it a go for Buddy. I have a few kits that might work.

You're on Bill old mate. I'm going to go with a 1/72 Hasegawa Isuzu TX-40 fuel truck.

Bill-thank you for running this GB-always a good time.

Not sure what I'll be building but I'll be building something-may try several, depending on my schedule.

Also, I'm sure I have some 'turkeys' that could be finished-and that's a great idea BTW.

Thanks for taking this on, Bill,

Ditto

Put me down as well. I never missed one since I started here.

I'll probably do a 1/72 armor build or maybe a 1/72 plane.

Thanks for taking this on, Bill, count me in- I don't know what with yet.  I thought last year's choice (Airfix 1/72 BAe Hawk) would be manageable, but I ran into paint problemsSad & missed the deadline.  So what - it was fun!  I'll have a rummage through the stash & let you know when I've decided.

Cheers,

              Hutch.

Weekend Madness 2021
Posted by GMorrison on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 12:09 AM

Let's give this a shot for Buddy.

From the big fluffball in 2020:

"I know it's WAY too early for Christmas music, but it's that time of year once again.  What time is that you ask.  Why simply, it's WEEKEND MADNESS GB time of course!  What is that you ask?  Why it's simply the rootenest, rootenest group build to ever grace these webpages.  Legends will be made, songs of victory will be sung, and mortals will become modelling gods.  Well golly, what do I have to do, you ask.  Well, I'm glad you asked.  First I want you to pick a model, any model will do.  Then, I want your time.  Oh great, you say.  But wait, I say, I don't want six months or a year I want 48 hours.  Wait a minute you say, 48 hours?  Yep, only 48 hours.  That's the goal, 48 hours from start to finish. But, you start to sputter. No buts says I, if I can do it, you can do it.  Many have sung songs of victory, and many have sung mournful dirges of defeat.  Will you join this quest?

The start date is November 25 (insert here by Bill).  But that's Thanksgiving day you say.  It's also the start of a four day weekend for us here in the States, and for the rest of the world it's as good a day as any to start.  Besides, it's tradition. This build normally peters out around New Years (which is good because that's when the Close Air Support build kicks off not so subtle plug there).

The Rules.

1. Pick a kit.  Normally I'd recommend a simple kit, something you can finish in the allotted time.  However, there are some that like to burn the thing to the ground and pick the latest million piece wonder.  However, most of us like to watch the world burn as well and will gladly pull up a chair, pop some popcorn, and watch your attempt and root you on to either a  spectacular victory or a spectacular defeat.

2.  ALL kits will be unstarted.  Photographic proof is required.  A pic of the unstarted kit with either a working clock in the background or a timestamp is required.  Crossovers are allowed.

3.  You have 48 hours, that's it.  You start at 8:00pm on Friday, you have until 8:00pm on Sunday to finish.  I realize that some don't get the traditional weekend off, so pick a 48 hour window and go for it.

4.  Take pics.  It gives the rest of us something to look at while we're waiting for our masterpieces to dry.

5.  HAVE FUN!  This is not the build for building your latest contest entry, although some have gone on to win, place, or show at their local contest.  This is for blowing out the cobwebs and finishing something.

6.  Did I mention you only have 48 hours?

7.  Did I mention have fun?

I think we've covered every genre in this build, so all are welcome.  If I've forgotten something slap me upside the back of the head and remind me.  If you have any questions, please ask.  To Infinity, and beyond!"

There's a new feature this year- the play offs.

Starting monday, November 15: unfinished Madness kits of previous years from the shelf of shame can be completed by Thanksgiving and will be featured in their own special gallery- Leftovers- "any turkey left?".

I've got one. My theme was always gull gray over white, and that Hase F8E is all painted up in it's box but not stuck together.. Shame, shame...
