Good afternoon,

If I may, this would be my entry. It's been started by someone else, but none of the parts were painted, so the first thing I will do is take it apart.

We need a prancing horse!

Oh don't worry.  I haven't missed a race in over 20 years.  In fact, we try to attend one a year.  This year we have eyes set on Monza.  If you ever want to attend an F1 race make it to Montreal.  Of the F1 races I've been to Montreal does it the best.

Amazing Grosjean walked away from that horrific crash.

Be sure and watch race number 2 of the 2022 season.

This Sunday 3/27 at 12:55 PM ET Saudi Arabian GP on ESPN

Thanks,

John

There's been a couple incidents that the halo probably saved a life.  Like most F1 fans I believe it's ugly but there's no question it makes the sport more safe.  Grosjean at Bahrain comes to mind.  If you remember the car went under the guard rail.  I think we had cars going on top of each other at the first corner during the Spa race one year.

Yes it was at Monza.  Better pic here showing the halo saving Hamiltons life

DRUMS01

I think the Brabham cars of the 70-80's were milestone designs. The same could be said of some of the Tyrell car's too. Then there was the Ferrari 312 series, wow were those something! And nobody can argue with the design and success of the Lotus series of cars either.

Hey WPWAR11, I buil;t that Lotus a few years ago and it fell together like a dream. There is plenty enough to detail under the lift off body, you will like it a lot.

I agree that the Richie Ginther Honda is a beautiful model kit too. The mold quality and detail for that car is fantastic. In the spirit of the Honda and Richie I am sharing this photo:

Yes sir, this is going to be fun....

Drums-

I just noticed the picture of your Lotus in the beginning of the thread.  Did you use the Tamiya rattlecan for the yellow or mix your own?  I think Zero paints has the Camel yellow also.

Keavdog-

The Verstappen over Hamilton picture I believe was at Monza?

I included pre F1 in the rules:

  • And as a nod to our history - any European Championship Grand Prix car prior to Formula One

So you're good Ben!  Looking forward to the build.

AND it has six wheels!!!  Stick out tongue

Hi everyone, with your permission, I would like to add something a little different to the F-1 group build. This is more pre-F-1 per say, but the father of F-1 as we know it.

If this is not acceptible let me know and I will pick something else.

Ben / DRUMS01

Nice looking kit G.  I like the PE goodies - gonna be a beauty.

That pic of Verstappen bouncing over Hamilton above... the halo saved Hamiltons life as the rear came down right on his head.

All that being said - I dig the 60s/early 70s cars.  May try to squeeze this one in too

Thanks,

John

Personally, my favorite era in F-1 was the 1970-1980 era, when all the cars looked different.  Today's cars look like some kind of out of control Gilletette razor design contest, although this year it seems the aero-thingies have been pared back.  I'm not a fan of the "halo" cage either, although I do understand it is to protect the drivers.  It's just that it makes the cars look ugly.

Looks like Ferrari is off to a great start this season.

Sprue shots of this beautiful Tamiya kit!

If I didn't already know it is an Formula 1 kit and hadn't seen the box art, might have thought I was looking at the sprues for a fighter jet.

Keavdog,

The kit is 1/20 by Fujimi.

I wonder if Mr. Tamiya's "no prototypes and weirdo stuff" rule prevented the BT46B from being kitted by the Big T.

I'm in with Niki Lauda's Brabham BT46B, the infamous "suction fan car".  It was banned after only one race, but it finished in style.  Hopefully so will I.  Finish that is, not get banned!  Stick out tongue  Pics to follow.

BTW Ben, that's a wonderful F1 collection you have!

Got you on the roster Paul.  Does that kit come with the Camel sponser decals?

Ya - heck of a race to kick the season off.  Not sure what happened to the Redbull cars, but seeing Ferrari dominate was cool

Thanks,

John

Ok Keavdog I'm in.  Just watched the start of the 22 season.  Ferrari is back!  Here's my kit.  I'll start soon and have it done by 3/2023-I hope.  Cheers, Paul.

Keavdog,

That McLaren color scheme is one of my favorites, cigarrette logos and all.  It's a super sweet looking car as well. Hope to see you on the podium! Yes

Sprue shots of this beautiful Tamiya kit!

I bought the kit off of eBay and the seller included the Marlboro decal sheet.  Interesting variation in the orange/red decals

Nicely detailed engine/transmission

The body is beautifuly molded in a shiny white plastic

Thanks,

John

The first race of the 2022 season is underway in Bahrain (ESPN) and while we are short on folks on the roster I'm hoping to pickup a few more builders that responded to the feeler along the way.  The build is open so crack open the kits!

Thanks,

John

You bet Greg.  Watch the race this Sunday and see if it inspires you!

BTW these Tamiya kits (The Honda RA272 I posted early and this one) are a joy to build.

Tamiya 1/20 Lotus 25 Coventry Climax

And the RA272 is pretty affordable right now Cool

Thanks for the tips and encouragement, John.

I'll be watching the thread, and will check the stash when able. I know I have a couple Tamiya kits there. Might even have that Honda. This is a great reason to start one.

Oh this sounds fun. I don't think I have any in the stash, just some Le Mans cars.

Phil Hills 1962 Shark Mouth does come to mind.

Hmm...

John, I'm not quite committing but this sounds intriguing.

You are right, the pics Ben posted are motivational, and Ben, there's something about that #18.....I really like that one.

Let me follow along for a while and see if I get my lazy self to my bench later this spring or not, John.
