OK, I am in with this one

Skyhawk was one of the first models I built without my dad's help. I totally ruind the decals so my friend drew the signs and an eagle on the fuselage and it looked quite good. The box art is, well, memories of my dad coming back from Gemany and bringing this kit.

Hi Gents, everyone is doing great work, hope you don't slow down just because fishing season is here ...Whistling

As far as my builds go, I am still struggling with the canopy on my Fujimi -5 corsair.. on top of that my mkV spitfire slipped out of my butter fingers and I snapped off one of the cannon barrels so has slowed me down a bit..hope to get both back on track soon though!

Thanks lostagain, The masking are my own work, cut on Silhouette Portrait machine. Yea, the fuselage roundels will be fun. It kinda hard to explain  how I'm planning on doing it. Ive tried to type it out here three times and had to erase each one because I was getting confused myself. I'll try again after Ive actually done it Stick out tongue

Hahaha sounds like a picture will be worth a thousand words

Cbaltrin, the Spitfire is looking fantastic - and great work on the painting - including the markings. Are they commercial masks or home cut? The four colours on the fuselage will be interesting - I have often wondered about getting the different rings perfectly aligned - how does that work?

PhilliePhan, great patience with the canopy marking, well done. And the NMF is looking great.

68GT, I thought that looked familiar - I have the decal sheet at home - I must have made it and trashed it a few decades back - didn't even get to put the markings on. I know that you won't end up in the same place. It is off to a great start, and it is great to see the alternate legs worked so well.

Jack, the B-17 is coming along well now you are past all the filling and sanding.

I have started with painting the Lola, mainly doing a whole lot of metallics. I am using the vallejo metal color series.

I have started by putting the engine together and bringing out the detail with a black wash. Also put a few bits together on the monococque. Tamiya called oy metallic silver as the color, it is probably darker than it should be - too late.

The bigger question is whether I start doing wires and hoses - Tamiya have not supplied a distributor or anything so it would involve scratching etc and I wanted to do a straight through build...

68GT

Not much progress to report other than I was sanding some filler.

Even in that condition F4's are sexy birds. She looks like an old night fighter with high speed paint burns. Looking forward to the scheme you choose.

This looks great. I think painting masks are the only way to go now. More work, but the look is far superior. BK

Thanks BK, the fuselage roundels are going to be a challenge -- yellow, blue white red Tongue Tied ... and much smaller...

Here she goes in to paint

She would have made a sexy night fighter/bomber

Here is a chart of the different materials used in the skin of the B-36.  The magnesium areas are dull compared to the aluminum.  Aluminum was used for all the pressurized sections of the fusleage, magnesium for the rest.  The wings varied mostly in the fuel tank areas.

Beautifully done roundels.  I think I'm going to build a Spit after the B-36.

Thanks PhilliePhan!

Looking good PhilliePhan79. Looks like you have your work cut out for you with all that metal shading!

The B-36 has the base metallic coat.  Up next will be various shades of alclad to make it look interesting.  There are very few pictures online of the early model B-36s.  But it had a distinct color around the central fuselage.  The Roden instructions call it silver-grey.  In the jar that doesn't look right.  I'll have to do some experimenting before committing.

Looks good JacknewbIII. It appears the fit was not as good as Tamiya? Wink

The builds are looking good over here folks. I got a puppy for christmas and it has been taking up all my spare time. I have gotten most of the seamwork done now and aded the wings. The seams on the top and bottom have been this kits weak spot so far. I am layering tamiya white surface primer and am close. Most of the masking is done. Here are a few progress pics:

Since my  Fujimi F4U is floundering as I ponder new plexiglass possibilities, I have started this Airfix / Mpc Spitfire Vb in 1/72 Scale.  Very nice box art indeed I should say. The kit itself is actually not that bad. Good shapes and raised panel lines are quite petite and no rivets!

The blade is unique to the tool.  It seems quite durable and could probably be sharpened many times.  Seriously doubt you would ever need to replace it.

I have to plug the DSPIAE tool as well.  This thing will cut perfect circles as small as flea.  Best tool that I have purchased so far in my modeling journey.

Ive been looking at these also and was wondering about the blades used.  Does it use a standard type blade?  Havn't looked much but havnt seen anything about replacement blades.

The Monogram gear looks muh better.  I glued them in last night and today I reinforced everything with some JB Weld.
