Work has begun on the Peacemaker.  She's a bigg'un.  Wings look like a boomerang

Plenty of weight in the nose.  Luckily the nose gear on this kit is quite stout.  Sometimes 1/144 gear is very spindly.

And now about 6 hours of filling and sanding

I estimate 3 hours assembly.  6 hours filling/sanding.  5 hours masking the greenhouse.  5 hours remasking the greenhouse after I'm not happy with it.

She's gonna be fun to paint though!

Real G

OK I would like to enter the GB fray with this:

Although it is a pretty new kit, I was indeed "bamboozled by the box art".  I have always liked the Buccaneer, but primarily the RAF incarnation with the bulged belly and wraparound camouflage.  The new 1/48 Airfix Bucc kit is pricey too, but after seeing the lovely box art, I pushed the "buy this" button.  And I must say I have no regrets.  Compared to the old nightmare 1980s kit, it just oozes quality.

When I look at the Bucc all I see is the world land speed car.

Thanks guys!

Yeah, they'd probably be mighty tiny.  Maybe an 1/8" tall, it that.  They probably wouldn't add much, but it's the principle of it...

And that is why I have 15 kits in varying stages of completion in the storage bins of doom.  Smile

Well done, Robert. She came out great. Those would be some tiny palms, right?

Calling this one finished now.  It was a fun little kit, but had some minor fit issues and the missing decals bummed me out.  Someday when I build another 1/72 armor kit with a DAK option I will swipe the palm trees from it.

Thanks for the GB!

The end is in sight for this...since Roden didn't see fit to actually include the decals referenced for the DAK vehicle, guess that is a step to skip.

CBaltrin, could you add me to the roster with this B-36B from Roden in 1/144 please?  Thanks!

Started working on the A7V today with test fitting the armor panels together.

After the test fitting I went ahead and started gluing some of the hull parts together. I am going to let the glue set for rest of the day before gluing anymore.
It has a lot of fit problems and it is going to taking some filling an sanding to fix everything. I’ll also probably sand off a number of rivets that will need replaced. Speaking of rivets there are more than a few missing on the model that I’ll go ahead and put down.

The kit also includes an interior which is pretty much fictitious which I will not be including.

The model doesn’t seem to represent any A7V built by the Germans during WWI. Every A7V was unique and there were differences between each of them.

I am considering making a fictional  cannon armedA7V used by the Freikorps (German post WWI paramilitary). The Freikorps did have one A7V but it was only armed with machine guns. My idea is to paint it gray and put skull and bones markings on the front and side of the model.

Jack, that bomber interior looks fantastic!

Cbaltrin, Looks like you have that Corsair well in hand, keep it up!

Sorry for my lack of WIP updates lately.  I just never felt there was much worthwhile to photograph in this scale, and before I knew it the subassemblies were done and basecoated!

I was initially going to go with an Eastern Front vehicle, but decided at the last minute to go with the Afrka Korps markings.

Ok, Made some progress on the dash-five today, all via the magic of apoxi-sculpt. First I filled some gaps around the horizontal stab. Next,  I was having trouble installng the oil coolers in the wings since it's a loose fit and they kinda just fall out of the wing as soon as you slide them in, so I stuffed the cavity with apoxie scuplt first and then pushed them into place. Tomorrow I can sand and hopefully get the wings attached.  I think I will be ordering some brass hispano fairings and some resin wheels tonight. Still grapling with the canopy situation...

GreySnake

After thinking it over I will join up. Here is my entry a 1/35 A7V by Tauro.

 Untitled

This kit caught my eye years ago in the old Squaron mail order catalogs. The kit is pretty bad and has a lot of accuracy problems. I am going to try to build it OOB.

Problems smoblems, just build it. It looks cool. I can't wait to see it.

The Fujimi -5 corsair used the same approach as the Monogram -4 (mold the frame of the canopy as part of the fuselage and the clear portion as a separate insert. Well the clear insert fits horribly. I may have to live with it, or glue in on best I can and slap on a bunch of apoxie scuplt and try to sand it to correct profile, then paint the widows black. Or I can try to cut the frame out of the fuselage and fashion a vac u form replacement for the whole ball of wax...

What specifically is going on with the canopy? I know you lost one and had to get a replacement. Let us know and we will try to help out.

Sorry for no updates in a while guys. have not done much on the F4U-5N since my last post. It has not been put on the shelf though -- it's still sitting right there on my bench! I warned AMS might set in and I have been tinkering with ways to replace the wing guns, which are just some plastic nubs so far as the kit plastic goes. I have removed them. Also need to scrape up some new wheels somewhere. Lastly, still brainstorming on how to fix this abismal canopy.  Might not have more progress on it until January-ish...

I'd like to join with the Roden 1/144 B-36B.  Coolest box art that I have ever seen.  But the kit intimidates the heck out of me.  This could be the inspiration that I need.

Put me down for a Tamiya 1/48 Bf-109E-4/7 trop. Should be a fairly simple kit except for the mottled desert scheme.

Good looking kit you picked Robert. You will do the artwork justice I am sure.

Progress has been slow but I have the crew painted, glass in and some masking done. I am close to sealing it up and moving to the exterior. Keep up the good work here fellas and I will be back soon.

Interesting choice! Sad about artist though...

Glamdring

I picked out my kit, a Roden 1/72 Opel Blitz.  This one definitely fits the them of the build, as I bought it after I was looking through the art gallery of the artist after he was killed earlier in the year in Ukraine.   His name was Valery Grygorenko.

Not many sprues, but a there are  lot of very small and fragile looking parts on them.

So here is an update on the Fujimi F4U-5N

1st , I had to buy a second kit as a wrecked the canopy of the 1st one. At least I would have a good propeller I thought... But No,  The 2nd kit arrived with a two bladed prop Crying.  Oh well, back to the original plan of fixing the 1st prop..

Since the kit comes with separate airlerons, I figured why not position the rudder and elevators as well. So I have been working on that. Filled in the gaps from the surgery with apoxie sculpt.

Now I just need to find some replacement tires. Seems to only accuracy requirement for the tires in this kit is that they be round. Sorry, I did not get a picture of the tires..
