I finally finished this Tamiya Mustang! It's probably been a year since I started the build.

The model represents the P-51C "Princess Elizabeth" as I remember the airplane I saw at The Gathering of Mustangs and Legends back in 2007, at Rickenbacker Airport, Columbus, Ohio. Most everything is painted except the tail number and the nose art. The paints are AK Xtreme Metallics Aluminum and various Tamiya colors.

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

Late arrival here.  I have been thinking hard about cleaning up the Shelf of Doom for a while now, so this GB should be an excellent fit for me.

I won't count my "current" build, which has never actually touched the Shelf of Doom.  So the next one to get finished up will be a 1/72 Revell Fokker Dr I.  (And a Revell Fokker Eindekker waiting close by in the "wings".)

Please let me know where to send my registration fee.  :-)

Ok, time for a late add.  I've been in a slump for a few years now with a career change and several surgeries.  I gotta get back into the game!!  If it isn't too late, I'd like to join with an Airfix 1/72nd scale Val and an Atlantis B-25.  If I get on a roll, I may finish up an Italeri Dodge Ambulance!  What do you think??

Thanks!

2022 New Year's Resolution:  Enter 1 group build and COMPLETE a build this year!!  Why Photobucket did you rob me of my one Group Build Badge???  Must be part of the strong anti-Monogram cartel!!!

This rocket I swear....

New switched worked perfectly, until the battery started getting super hot and melting the inside of the rocket. Thankfully I had it wrapped in foam to keep it from moving around. Maybe I wired it incorrectly? But why would function properly. I dont know. Ill figure it out eventually.

Sounds like the battery got shorted out. Might want to check your wiring.

Yea had a wire or two mixed up. Not sure what I was thinking.. Its all corrected now. Switch added, wires soldered and its working good. The Jets dont look very realistic, but the boy loves it so thats all that matters.

When I bought this kit, I bought it from a seller on Ebay and the base arrived broken so they sent me a complete 2nd kit. Now that I know what to expect Ill hold onto it and maybe we build it together once hes older to a more historically accurate spec. I added the decals last night, and it jsut got its first coat of clear so once its dry ill attach the polyfil covered cones (smoke) permanently and be done. Hopefully tomorrow I add a third completed kit to this GB!

Man, those rocket engines are fierce! Best effect I've seen in a while.

Thanks to all of you guys makeing this GB a success. Keep up the good work. All you guys who have still not completed anyhing, well, I feel your pain as I am in the same boat.  I have shamefully re-accessed my goals and reduced my entries to the Monogram B-17G and the Tamiya Skyraider Black Eye. I really want to get the B-17G done by Turkey Day as I may have a newphew visisting that week who would be interested in seeing it. The skyraider is the only other kit I am currently motivated to complete. That said, the GB may get extended to around 3/31/204.  Keep up the good work fellas and don't get discouraged!

I have not been a part of many GB's but this one is hands down the best idea for one. I have not completed 3 kits in 10 years let alone in just one year. Hopefully I can get this 4th one finished before the end of the year. We still need a badge!

Hi Everyone, here is the Badge I came up with for this GB.  If I can talk my artist daughter into making a better one, I'll post it as well. What do you guys think?

It's been a while since I've touched anything.  I'm home from work today and the weather is crappy so I masked and painted the Six.  I forgot how much paint these things use up.

On Ed's bench, ???

Finally got back to my Monogram B-17G

Man the windscreen is a pain on this kit. Finally got it installed and painted! Filled the gaps with extra thick CA, immediately wiping smooth with cotton swab. Naturally, I had to future the thing first to prevent fogging.

Glad I bought these Eduard masks. Great Time Saver.  And based on how long I've been working on this kit, they only cost me about .50 cents a year... The overhead glass masks did not fit that great though. Well the port side fit well, but not the starboard. I think Eduard made the mistake of thinking one side would just be an exact mirror of the other...forgetting how kits were designed in 1975  :giggles:   [/size]

those masks help a lot!  it doesnt matter if its a Ju188 or a P51, they help speed things up.  I just whish they were cheaper.

I did some decaling this morning.

Yeah, just have to do some detail painting and then I'll get the pitot tub and the drop tanks on.  I always leave them for last cause I usually bust them off.

Thank you Cbaltrin!

I have started at least a dozen model projects in the last 40 years, but the last one completed was a Monogram 1959 Corvette and that was in 1982!

So, I am close on this one and here is my progress...

Well that's where I'm at, I may modify the nose gear, it looks too tall, should look more like this...

your shipmate,

Ziggy

Greetings!  I would like to throw my hat in with this dusty shelf sitter, a 1:35 ICM G4 Mercedes.

My goal has been to build it as General Burkhalter's staff car in Hogan's Heroes, rather than as that German leader's car or a plain Heer vehicle:

I have had it sitting for for at least 4 years, give or take due to a variety of delays; a part I lost that ICM sent me the whole sprue to replace (at no cost I might add), higher priority projects, searching for decals, searching for suitable figures to represent Hogan, Klink, Schultz, and/or Burkhalter.

Time to just get it done, macht schnell!
