Some pics of my Possum Bourne Subaru WRC. Hope you like. It has been a huge learning experience and test model for the next of his cars that I will build.

I haven't been building or posting much lately, so let me begin by saying how awesome everyone else's builds look. My C5-R is s-l-o-w-l-y coming along, and I have 100% confidence that I will totally and completely miss the deadline. My patience for building progress threads is fading, so I will instead supply a link to the thread I have going over at www.automotiveforums.com. Hope everyone doesn' t mind me taking a shortcut.

Here's the link to the progresss thread: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=261899

And here's a few pics (better descriptions can be found in the progress thread on AF.

Cheers!!

Hey to the new lads, who want to get in quickly before the closing date! (I'll put your details in when I have some more time)

And to all those who are fretting about not getting your car done in time - don't worry. Most GB's drag on a little longer past the date! Most important thing is that you guys participated in the GB, helped out your other mates, and actually had a go at building you car!

The GB post and badge will remain open for all those who were involved in the GB over the past 6-months.

Hi guys. I have just joined here so I can post too and I hope you will have a look at progress pics of my entry on the Scale Auto site. Model is of Peter Possum Bournes 1998 WRC Subaru that he raced in New Zealand and Australia in 1999. I won't post it here as well and use up valuable space but feel free to leave comments here as I will be reading this regularly now.

oh yeah, I saw that site a long time ago - that's where most of my source pics come from Big Smile [:D] You have to be quick, sometimes they sell them, but many of the photos are superb, ideal for modellers. I've also got some Renault Alpine and Quattro pics stored away somewhere that I got from there.

I used to find it amusing that they priced their cars in £, $, and Swiss Francs. Kind of hints at the level of customers they have Wink [;)]

Excellent rec though, so well worth repeating! Thanks nicholma!

U-96 have you been to www.carclassic.com ? If you go into the race car area there are a heap of detail photos of the 037 - suspension, engine, interior etc etc.

I should really be working on the Ferrari instead of being here. Not much to go just trying to replicate the missing p/e window frames. The weather forecast is for a wet Sunday so hopefully it will be and so a quiet couple of hours on the model.

Mayday, mayday. Can't finish the Aston Martin DBR1 in time, too many real world things need attention at the moment. I will finish it to be sure, just not by 01 Dec.

I rest my case Sad [:(] I'm not going to finish any of my entries in time. My baby boy is taking to much time from modeling as much as I would like to. Some time in a distant future I will finish both of my entries and by then you will all see them here on the forum. I realized that the clear coats on the DTM-car will never cure fully in time, so for now I'll give it a rest and concentrate on my efforts to get the hang of nailpolish finishes on model cars. That to will show up eventually.....I think!?
Good luck to the rest of the hard charging pack here at RCGB Thumbs Up [tup]

Down and out! But I will get up again!

LOL Luke! Perhaps my GB badge should only win if I finish my car before the deadline!
It only seems fair to use yours seeming as you've been the driving force behind the GB Smile [:)]

Anyway, here's the progress on the Lancia 037 engine... suspension and bodyshell left to do (and the latter involves lots of filler and a rattle can of auto paint)

Well, its November - 1 month to go . . . can you feel the tension . . .

Unfortunately, with so much interest at the start, only 2 group badges were nominated, and only one person voted! (I didn't vote cos I kinda run this show).

Anyway, U-96's badge won by a popular vote of 1 (1 out of 1 vote LOL).

Here it is:

Going to Hobbymässan? I'll be there friday or saturday, If so let me know and maybe we can join up and talk some models or whatever!? I must say I'm in trouble with the bike for our private battle on IPMS-Open '05, but I'll do my best to finish a Ducati 916 until then.

Niclas

Hi
No I'm not going to mässan (or shall I say didn't go??) Desperatly seeking time for modelling at all so I guess it's not just possible right now. But IPMS open is still a challange. I should have finished this peugeot until then and I have three more RCV:s to finish as well (starting to get a bit tired of those suckers...) A friend in Australia is hopefully seperating from a set of Suzuka 8-hours decals for the Suzuki Yoshimura Hayabusa kit, very limited production and that would be a great kit to do in the dear future. So IPMS Open it is. This weekend you all will have some pics on my progress of the pug, think it will be pretty good.
regards

I've not had this problem with Haseqawa, are you refering to any specific kit? I've just finished with a Fujimi Mercedes and I would definately agree with you about that manufacturer

The few Hasegawas I bought hasn't really set me on fire. In some points they're better than Tamiya but over all Tamiya is on top with better quality and detail in their products. I only buy Hasegawa if it's a subject that nobody else make. As you already stated Fujimi can be everything from a mere disaster to good.

I've just found an old copy of TMMI within which was an article on building the Corolla WRC. I was doing mine strickly OOB but this article persuaded me to do a bit more so I'm now withdrawing it from the GB so as I can get the various aftermarket decal sheets etc. It will take a bit longer to finish than the scheduled end of this GB so I will concentrate just on the Ferrari for this GB.

Eric-polished a little more and then used a little Meguire's auto wax-worked like a charm.

Thanks again for the tip.

Those are some excellent looking race cars fella's...very impressive work !

My project is finally done, I took the week off too complete it...just kidding. I took the week off inorder to watch the world series.

This was a very enjoyable build, but it had it's moments. There were lots of fit issues as well as mold lines to clean up. The most difficult part of this kit was the decals. Trying to get those decals around the fenders and hood was an ordeal. I ended up using two sets of decals to get everthing lined up correctly. I used the kit decals for the front of the car and Slixx decals for the rest. Any other minor issues were corrected with a bit of paint.

I spent over 100 hours on this model. A lot of that time was spent on the paint and decals as well as detailing. I added Detail Master's racing harness, window net and hood pin kit. I used Modern Motorsport's steering wheel with wiring. I added braces to the rear spoiler using styrene. I added window braces using a sharpie and a ruler. I detailed the wheels with MAS PE brakes and Slixx tire and wheel accessory sheet.

There's so much more that I could have done to this kit. This project was a first for me. I've never built a Nascar kit before. Now that I've got one under my belt I'm already thinking about the next...Maybe a superdetailed build.

Bob, I use "The Treatment Model Car Wax" or Tamiya makes a liquid wax, not to be confused with the Tamiya polishing compound. At times I have had good results using something as simple as Pledge furniture polish. Just spray a little on a rag wrapped around the end of you finger and gently rub it on to the set and dried decal from the center out and then wipe off the excess. They won't look like they've been clear coated but they will have a nice realistic sheen to them.

proosen:
I'm finding the kit to be fine, although it is perhaps the most complex I've attempted, so it's a bit of a learning exercise for me. One thing that does annoy is that there are plentiful seam marks, injection pin depressions etc, all over, even on small parts. I started off meticulously fixing them, but after looking at some some source pictures, a lot of the parts on the Lancia do have a rough-and-ready look - forging seams and mould depressions do occur in real life - so I was careful only to tidy up parts where necessary.

I don't know if there are any differences between the Revell and Hasegawa boxings, but the fit seems to be okay so far.

The painting guide is pretty basic for the interior and engine (aluminium for everything!) so again, I've based it on source pics which reveal brightly coloured springs, different metal shades on components, and carbon fibre parts. The CF decals I used on the door are a little bright and probably 1/12 rather than 1/24 (I seem to remember someone else had the same fun earlier in the thread) but I quite like the effect, so I'll stick with it. Smile [:)]

Eric-quick question(s)-what kind of wax do you use and how do you keep from damaging the decals in the process? I applied setting solution to said decals.

Thanks

Eric-thx for the tip. Funny thing is that the decals (side panels) are ok for the most part-the wrinkling was/is more noticable on the hortizonal surfaces. Did a little polishing last nigt with toothpaste (at least this car won't get cavities....) and will do a little more on the roof and deck lid tonight. Might try the wax option. Couldn't hurt at this point.

Thanks everybody for the compliments....

Bob, I never clear over decals.. I know a lot of people do and they work just fine for them but they've never worked for me. Burned a couple times, I choose to just put some wax on them after they're good and dry. To me I'd rather have nice smooth decals with a slightly glossy finish (i.e. wax) over super shiney wrinkled decals anyday.

Great job on the Mustang Eric-one wonders if you didn't build a real car and just photo it-it's that good!

Put Gloss coat on the 'cuda funny car after decaling and it 'wrinkled'-will spend some time with the toothpaste polishing-again. Not sure if the base coat hadn't cured yet or a bad can of Gloss. Not sure if I'll 're-gloss' or just try a little wax. After this paint experience, I think I'll go build a tank......

That is some good looking Mustang, incredible work and skill. Love the nuts/bolts that holds the front fenders in place, nice touch of a forgotten area. I have one of thoose laying in my pile with a need of paint stripping and some extensive work to finish it of. You did however put the bar to high for me so it'll be lurking on the shelf for some time in a distant future Big Smile [:D]
