Hallo! Is there anybody out there?
There isn't much going on at the moment here at our group build so I thought I'll post something about my progress so far.
Making slow progress with the decals on my Original-Teile, have done approx. 80% of them now. Still working like mad with the carbon fibre decals in the interior, think it's coming along fine anyway. The CLK-GTR is stripped and under repair so it will get a new paint job soon, but I don't think it'll get finished in time...hate to rush projects. Eventually I'll get it finished to, all depends on how much time I can spend building. No pics this time as things pretty much looks the same as before.

Isn't it annoying when this occurs!!?Banged Head [banghead]. My most recent experience with this was with a Studio 27 decal set on a Tamiya Porsche 962 which has white stripes as decals. The black and yellow paint shows through. I have a plan white decal sheet and so will cut additional strips from that and overlay to prevent the underlying colours coming through. Maybe you could try that too??

Here's a couple of test shots just to see what it's going to look like.
I need to work on bringing the back wheel in under the body a little but it's not really as bad as it looks in this picture. It's not attached to anything yet it's just sitting there.

I still have to paint the rest of the inside of the body black as well as a lot of other things to do.

great to see heaps of steady progress going on their cars . . .

just a reminder about the Group Build Badge.
so far there's only been 2 nominations (see post 1)
if anyone else would like to design one, let me know
cos it's end of Sept and quite a few people have finished their cars (or about too)
if no one else wishes to design a badge, and you'll settle for one of the 2
I'll take votes during the first fortnight in Oct

any suggestions

Finally, some more progress to report.

First, the rebuilt suspension. It looks like the orginal one piece unit, which I guess is a good thing, but the one piece unit was cut into pieces and rebuilt to be functional for left and right steering.

The wheels had the backs cut out, the front had disc brakes added and the back will have drum brakes added when they get mounted to the car.

The engine in it's initial stages of being built. Some detail wiring and plumbing will be added but not overkill. The oil filler tubes were made and added to the valve covers, the pins that stick out from that are for the ventilation hoses. Sorry for the bad pic...

And a new shot of the interior. The dash panel had very little detail. The rings/bezels around the guages didn't exist at all. They are made from small diameter solder wire, wrapped around the ends of a file then flattened and glued in place. The whole thing was painted semi-gloss black then I scraped the paint off the rings leaving chrome rings around the guages.

The engine and other areas of the car will eventually be given a light wash to bring out more of the details.........

Alright everybody I am back at the workbench knee deep with building the Bud #8 Chevy Monte Carlo of Dale Earnhardt Jr. I am going to do this build as my first Dio. I hope that you all will like the turnout of this build. I will have some pix up soon.

Remember this is my first attempt at a dio.

Re: R-CMan73-
thx, but sorry to say the fuzzy picture was better that the surface of the 'cuda, which spent Sat. evening in a bath of Castrol's de-greaser-worked well.
Washed and primed yesterday-will wait till this weekend to sand and put down the gold base coat-however, I'm considering using an automotive lacquer touch-up paint. Chrysler, GM & Ford both have colors that are very close to the candly apple red over gold that I'm going for. Appriciate any input on that option.

In the meantime, I'll work on the Spitfire for the Monogram group build.

Later

darrenbb ,
The buld is looking very nice. Big Smile [:D] nicholma I hate when a paint job doesn't turn out.Disapprove [V] Well i through tthat i'd let you guys know that I'v finished the nissian R90V. It didn't turn out all that well. Allof the white sections are decals and are partly transperent. They allow the red of the body to shabow the white slightly. I used that kit as a bit of a test to try out using the micro scale set and sol. I was impressed with the results. I would post pix for you guys to critices me with but i don't have a dig cam.Disapprove [V] Hopefully I will get a coat of white on the Fw07 this week.

Cheers Trev

If you all don't mind I'd like to join this build. I just happened to stumble upon it today. Last week I purchased Revell-Monograms #38 M&M's Ford Taurus driven by Elliot Sadler. It seems that this kit would fit in here rather nicely.

Here's my plan. Slixx decals, Detail Master window net, hood pins, seatbelt harness, hood tethers, window clips and maybe hood hinges (haven't decided on the last one yet). I'm also scratchbuilding spoiler adjustment rods.

So far I've thinned the spoiler and cut out the slot for the template. I sanded the body, primed and painted it Testors bright yellow. As you can see I've also decaled and clear coated it. Next I will add the pins to the rear deck lid, drill out the fuel vent and paint it and add the spoiler rods. The hood is not done because it fit like crap. I drilled the holes for the pins in it. I had to add a lot of strip styrene to the hood and reshape it to get it to fit correctly. It's coming along. I've also started in on the chassis. I've cleaned up all the roll cage parts of mold lines. I removed the molded window net and mounted the hardware for the new one. The new one is finished and waiting for installation.

That's it for now. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks
Darren

A bad day. I only had a limited time to spend modelling today and decided to repaint the
Ferrari body shell. I was sure I had washed it properly ready for painting a few weeks ago before it was wrapped and stored but on the first pass the paint reacted with something on the surface so now its on hold until its dried so it can be resanded and washed. Maybe I'll leave it in primer grey!

Well from what I can see it looks good the pix is a bit fuzzy. I should be back in the drivers seat on Monday and building the #8 Deale Earnhardt Jr. car. I was thinking of doing a dio on a garage or pit row.

Painted the 'cuda last night-not happy with it-spray can started splattering-ended up with a candy apple red hand afterwards.
Other problem is that my 'automotive' painting skills are lacking-more comfortable with WWII planes-more forgiviing. However, this is a learning process and I'm hoping that I can let the body set for a week while I work on the chasis & engine then do some wet sanding (2000+ grit) and/or polishing compound/toothpaste next weekend. Worst case is that the body goes into the vat of Castor's de-greaser and I start over. Also, I want to get a better digital camera, but that is way down on the wish list right now.

Having seen everyone's work on this build, I'm always open to suggestions.

Thanks

Maybe I missed it, but what went wrong with th GTR? The last time I checked your page, it was something I'd aspire to!

I know there was some decal sets for the 2000 DTM's one of them was a special that Mika Häkkinen drow in his usual West livery and I've seen another one that I don't remeber the livery of. Wouldn't it be nice with some new DTM's, Mercedes, Audi, Opel!? About the GTR, there was some flaws in the paint job that I couldn't hide underneath any decals, so right now it's taking a bath in brake fluid and I'm about to get it out and give it a good scrub and rinse. Then it's just to start over again, this time taking care to moist the room with water to knock down the dust. It has worked wonders in my most recent paint jobs, so it will get much better next time. Nice to hear I'm doing something that people like, even if it's from another model maniac like myself Big Smile [:D] I've been occupied with three Ferraris the last couple of weeks, Enzo, 365 GTB/4 Daytona and a 360 Modena. None of them is getting red nor yellow Evil [}:)] I'll post some pics of them later when I've finished them.

Cheers!

Know exactly what you mean, tried to quite because my economy didn't like all the model stuff. Lasted two weeks, ran down to the LHS and bought me the Monogram Mountain Dew car and built like crazy. Haven't really tried that stunt anymore, today I get the abstinence syndrome if I stay away to long from the the pit.
Hasn't made any progress on my two Mercedes', but tried some brake fluid on the CLK-GTR and it looks like I can safely strip the bodywork in the stuff I bought. Have melted a body in another brand before so I had to try on scrap piece first. So now it's going to have a bath and then a new paint job as I got some dust particles in the reacent paint job.

Cheers!

Greetings all-

Looking forward to seeing the Mustang complete-Eric. Impressive so far.

Question for the group-what is the 'best' method to apply candy apple (red) Testors over Testors gold? Figured I'd let the gold 'cure' until the weekend-but then is it a couple of light coats/mist then heavy or different process?
Thanks in advance.

I am soooo jealous! With our house being in the market now, my wife (in all her wisdom) decided it will be a very good thing to tidy up my study and take ALL my current projects to a friend of ours' home!

I have not touched a model in a week-and-a-half. I am ready to admit now... I'm a model-aholic! It feels as if I lost something...

Keep it up, guys, it's looking good!

Just got back from a weeks holiday but I did take my WRC Safari Corolla with me and managed to find a few hours to start the detail painting, construct the dash and start that task every Hasegawa modeller just loves - the seat belts at about 2 hours per seat!!

another update...

This is the new front suspension. As mentioned before the cross member, tie rod and wheel mounts were molded as one piece. The shocks/springs were the only separate pieces. I removed the molded on springs from the shocks and will add wire later to make new springs after I paint the shocks/struts. I cut the unit in to pieces and made it functional as far as turning left/right, added disc brakes, etc...

This is my first attempt at something like this so it's probably a little crude but it works for me and it's better than it was to start with.

Forgot to mention the next step...

The chassis, mainly the front suspension. If you've ever built one of these revell mustang kits you know how simplified the front suspension is. It's all molded as one piece that mounts directly to the chassis then the wheels mount/snap to the suspension, wheels don't steer and solid backs on the wheels themselves with no brakes.

I cut mine into pieces, threw part of it away and rebuilt other parts to create a suspension that steers, removed the solid backs on the wheels and added front disc brakes that are visible through the wheel. Most of the work is done on this and just about ready to move to the back suspension.

Pics coming in a few days.....

finally an update... the interior is finished for the most part. Still need the dash guages which are separate on this kit and seat belts need to be added. Otherwise, I modified the dash by removing the radio and glove compartment, removed the molded in knobs and replaced them with filed down pin heads. Reomved the fire exstinguisher and replace it on the console with scratch made brackets. Added mounting plates for the back bars of the rollbar. Modified the door panels and scratched built the door handels and used black textured tape for the door panel insert. Used a stick pin for the gear shifter. Seems like a lot of work for such a simple looking interior.....
