Just checking in.

I'm almost done with the wings on my Martin MB-2. They've taken just about forever to clean up, glue, and sand!

Regards,

Shrikes, that B-17 looks good, painting the OD over a aluminum finish is tough, you did a fine job.

Okay, I've finally given my B-17 a coat of paint and stripped off the masking! Here she is:

You can't really see it here, but there are a lot of rough edges because the masking pulled away at some of the paint at its edges... There's a LOT of touch-up work that's yet to be done, not to mention weathering and a good wash...I hope this one turns out alright! Comments and criticism (on the model, not on my photography skills) are very welcome! Big Smile [:D]

Oh, and i dunno if you can see it, but i faced the chin turret to the right, as i see in most reference pictures of B-17Gs on the ground. Does anyone know the reason for this? Question [?] Smile [:)]

OK...finally some progress shots... my Black Cat is currently actually blue Wink [;)] I am going to attempt some salt technique on this one and so wanted to have something underneath to show for it...

In the first pic I used the dinky flash as it had the best shot of the true color I am using....

In the second pic, while crappy overall, you can see somewhat the detail on the cockpit area... unfortunately this old camera has no zoom or macro options-- so close up shots were just a blur.

And I am actually doing another bomber build for this one as I am building it for a local vet who was a ball turret gunner. I will be building the Monogram 1/48 B-17F...so I have my hands full with this GB overall LOL

Thanks in advance,

Just got the lattest issue of Fine Sacle Modeler, and the first thing that I turned to was How to Detail a European Theater B-24 Liberator. I thought that the article was a little short, and they mentioned nothing of detailing the cockpit area of the Lib, but the waistgunning position pics were a god send for me.

On my project The Lady Be Good in 1/48, I have about 98% of the interior of the aircraft built for the waiste gunning positions. I spent about 2 weeks, researching and constructing all of the pieces that had to be added. I had only one reference photo of the Lady Be Goods interior to work with, and a caption to a step in building the Lady Be Good by Shepard Pain to work with. So it was very difficult tobe shure that the detail I was adding was accurate. Not to menttion I could not find any good overall pics of the Libs interior period. So I did what I could to it using what little resources I had. Then I get FSM and see what he did to detail his lib interior, I sighed a huge sight of reliefe and jumped for joy when I saw what I had done was almost identical to what he had done, and I also found out that mine was actually more detailed than his was. I can now stop worrying about the accuracy of what I have done to improve the detail of the bomber and start the painting and weathering process.
Not to mention I have built and painted the cocpit of the aircraft, cut the feusalage appart, built the destroyed engine nacel, detailed the inside of the nacel, feathered the props, bent them, broke the nose bubble glass, built the top turret, simulated the extensive fabric rotting on the controll surfaces, built internal sructure on them where needed, painted the kit engines, I have converted the tail turret to the correct version, and opened the life raft compartments. I still need to make the bulge on the feusalage, and make wrinkles in the aircraft skin (still practicing, on scrap plastic), weather the full interior, put the wings on the feulsalage, and close up the feausalage, and then I can airbrush the exterior, and its onn to the base.

I just might be able to get this bomber done and ready for the September 11th competiton after all. Oh I was also up at Oshkosh last weekend, and I got to help prepare a B-25H for takeoff, how cool is that. Also when I was there I got two new models, the Revell box scale F-94C starfire interceptor, and the Revell 1/48 F-105D thunderchief.

Sorry for the extreamly long post, I have not updated my progress on my build for a very long time so it took a while to tell what I have done.

See Ya

This B-25 doubles as an entry for this and another GB, so I'll be posting dupe images in both threads until I can come up with a better system...

Anyhoo, have started scribing on this thing:

These are just pilot lines, I have to go back and deepen them a bit. Satisfied with it so far...

Vintage Aircraft:
thanx 4 the reply !
i've got some fairly small diameter styrene rod, .015 & .020...
should work ok, i guess. i will most likely try both wire & rod, also looking at a non-traditional material 2 use 4 the mgs, but i'm not convinced it'll work so i don't want 2
mention it yet...Wink [;)]
i did a bit more work on the front windscreen, the copilot's side is done
so now i've got 2 do the pilot's side...
and i corrected the shape of the prop hubs from pointy lil things
2 a more bullet shaped profile...
now everything's going on the back burner while i work on my D-Day GB project !
have a great weekend, folks !

My ISP is having issues with my web server so some of the graphics like the Groupbuild Badge aren't accessible. No clue when the problem will be fixed. Every answer I get back from them is clearly not written by someone who has an adequate grasp for English, and has no clue how to respond to help desk calls. Why are we outsourcing IT again?
