MONOGRAM AIRCRAFT GROUP BUILD (ends 1/1/2005)

Started on the Spitfire last night-had painted the interior a few weeks ago and couldn't get motivated. Cockpit is ok-little detail-did some dry brushing, etc.
The fit of the fuselage is terrible-going to spend some time filling and sanding. But at least I'm moving forward

Wow, this is the first I am seeing of this. I have a ton (well actually 10pounds 2 oz) of Monogram kits. If I could sneak in an F-84F thunderstreak, I would greatly appreciate it.
Won't be able to start until the end of August tho. Or would you accept monogram's AV-8B converted to a TAV-8B using ch miniatures conversion set + decals (a very expensive conversion set for what you get - almost reminescent of FM)

Groovy, haven't checked in for awhile and noticed I'm finally added to the list! Now I can 'officially' begin this thing...

Will be starting to rescribe the B-25 tonight, hopefully...

albymoore-Wow you shure built your way to thew end of that project fast, and it looks amazing, even without the decals. I have a question when you get this cobra done are you going to submit another model to this build or will tht be it?

Update 7-24

Hey whatta ya' know, its brown .. The IDFHelo Brown (FS 30145) is a Humbrol mix of three parts Hu110 to one part Hu119. Getting close to decaling time .

Well I guess its about time that I post an update as to how my builds are doing.

Mig-15 Bis-I have finished it and it is in Russian markings, but the number on the nose it not true to any aircraft that actually flew. I used alcald Duraluminum to represent the bare metal finish on the fighter, and I used tons of putty, to close up that stupid panal that Monogram left open to show the gun bay off. I took all of that out and replaced it with weights so I wouldnt have to use the little clear stick they give you to hold up the tail. I say I spent about 2 or more hours trying to sand and putty all of the seams on it, in which after I painted it some on the bottem still showed up but barely. Oh well it was just a test shot for an Alcalad finish. The cockpit was only a few pieces but had decent detail in it so I decided not to add any other major things to it, but did make a new control stick for it. The lading gear did not fit right, and I found this out, after I had done everything else and it was my last step and I had glued the front gear doors on.. But I got them on, and had a little trouble figuring out which gear cover that is attached to the gear, goes on which landing gear. Overall, I had fun with it and it looks great when sitting next to all of my non nare metal WW2 aircraft in my display cases. I would give this model an 8 out of ten for final apearence when built strait our of the box, and mine I would say is about a nine.

Spitfire-Built it, chopped it up made a new airplane out of it. Not too much to say.

First update on the Monogram A-4M Skyhawk.

I have been working on this 2 weeks now and finally have me some headway on her.

Haven't really had any major problems yet ( knock wood). Fit overall has been ok at best, but hey she is an old kit.

First stumbling block was the seat rails on the backseat. thye were a little wide and when the halves were dryfitted they didn't meet. So with a small file , 5 minutes, and a little patience I filed the grooves were the rails protrude through. first problem solved.



Second problem was on the bottom of the fusalage itself. When I cut the halves off the sprue the connection was so thick that it took 2 good sized "chunks" out of the bottom of the plane. Tgis was solved by masking both sides of the chunks with Tamiya Tape and thinned down Squadron White putty.

Once masked I mixed some of the putty with some acetone and made a sludge. Filed the chunks with it and smoothed it out with a q-tip dipped in acetone. Some minimal was sanding was done to feather it out and in about 15 min problem two was solved.



The next issue were the intakes. No matter how I fit, filed or sanded there were ugly gaps. So same tape, sludge, and patience were used to fill those. They still need a little more attention but i am getting there.



Well thats about it for now. Next up will be filling the wing assembly as the second pic shows gaps in the front and back of the assemblies. Then prime, detail sand and preshading, but that is for the next update.

I AM BACK!. Sorry about the belated absence, I diddnt have time to update things on monday due to the factI had an unexpected trip to my work place that I had to make. Then On tuesday I went on a little trip to Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnassota. It was a blast the entire trip was made driving along the Mississippi Rive and it was so betuiful up there. But I got back early Thursday morning and I come home to find out my computer has crashed (Still cant find out why it did) But I finnaly got it up back and running today at 100%. Also last sunday when I said I was going gliding the cealing was only at 2000 FT and it was a very inactive day for thermals. So I diidnt glide but stayed there for about five hours talking to people. But I went yesterday and it was amazing, I plan to try and get my gliders licence and fly these babies when ever I want.
But now to get down to buisiness and update the list and respond to the posts.

Blackwolf 3945-Ill put you down for a B-25 in 1/48 scale and an Me-262 in 1/48, and I have updated the bomber build so your in on that one.

Warlock0322-Sorry about missing you I must now have seen your post, my fault, but I will put you down for a 1/48 OA-4M, and an AV-8B.

Albymore-Corbra is looking great I cant wait to see that beast done, it should be an eye catcher when displayed in a case.

diggeraone-Good choice in committing all these kits to this build, there is a long period from start to finish that one kit just aint gonna span. So ill put you down for a 1/48 PBY-5A, Spitfire MKII, A/B-26 invader, Ta-154 A-O, Moskito, Ju-88, and a Ju-217.

roadkill-275-Keep pkugging along at that jug, it will come out good eventually, and if not, well ya had a good time building it anyways right?

Hey Vintage,

Just wondering if I could add another kit to the fray. The 1/48 F-5E Tiger II that Revell reboxed... It's still the same Monogram kit, complete with Monogram stamped on the inside of the left wing....

If so, then put me down for it... My P-51 should be done in a couple of weeks or so, and that still leaves a while for the end of the GB... Thanks

Just adding the last bits to the airframe of my Cobra before painting, decaling, and weathering commences (antennas, nav light housings,ect). While the paint is drying, I'll detail the TOW racks. Should be done around the end of the month, beginning of August.

Hey everyone. Just thought I'd give a little update, seeing how, like Roadkill pointed out, no one has posted anything in a while. Anyway, my F-101 is coming along, nicely, but I need to find some new seats for it since I accidentally ground clean through one of them trying to remove the molded in belts. That'll teach me to play with the Dremel tool at 2 am.

The Typhoon is also moving along. I decided to scratchbuild the cockpit framework, since the PE parts for it are a bit flimsy for my taste. Control surfaces have all been removed and will be repositoned. On that note, anyone know where I can get pics of the inside of the flaps for this plane?

As soon as I can get the camera working, I'll get some pictures up here.

Has this GB ground to a halt? There have been no posts here since Thursday!! I know Vintage Aircraft is busy with his project, but how about everyone else? Sticking my neck out a bit here, BUT evryone up to this point who wanted to join should just go ahead and join. I don't have a problem with it and I don't foresee any else having one either.

My P-47 is continuing to progress. I have the paint on it and I am adding the last bits to it. I should have pics up by the end of the week. The B-25 has stalled for the moment as I am having to strip al the paint off of the interior and do a repaint. For some reason the paint I used blistered and started peeling.

I would like to join in-first time group build. Recently (last winter) started building again after a 40 yr break. Most recent projects were all Monogram-P-51, P47 & P-38 with an Austin gasser for the auto fix-all straight from the box.
I plan on starting on a Spitfire Mk II at the end of summer, but the cut-off for getting in is today, so I hope I'm not too late.

Update on the Jug. Finally got the colour coat shot last night and it still looks good today. Except for that blasted seam and my feeble attempt at rescribing the lost detail on the panels. The B-25 is also starting to take shape.

Update on the Cobra, 7-13

The canopy has been attached add the HSS rails added. The canopy needed some shimming here and there to improve the fit. The rails are made of floral wire, the mounts are styrene bits. Should be ready for paint this weekend.

Not a problem Vintage. I just didn't want to start posting progress reports and you wonder where this nutball that hasn't signed up came from.

Seeing this is my first GB. I didn't know if I had to be on the list or just post I was interested and then just dig into the kit.

Anyway those lonely little Monogram kits thank you as well as I do. Now I gotta dig out the kits and putty as well.

Vintage Aircraft

Hey Vintage:

Would love to join if not too late. I have an old Monogram OA-4M and Av-8B in the pile that keeps looking at me. From behind the other kits.

This just may be the thing that gets me to pull it out and get something done with it. Plan to just go OOB with it, but hey plans do change...

So if it isn't too late. Put me down for one Scooter and one AV-8B Harrier. I know this is the third time I asked, but noticed that I wasn't on the updated list I didn't know if I wasn't accepted because of the time cutoff or if the messages just slipped through the cracks.

I might as well add my B-29, if I can. I'll be assembling the main airframe this week, and priming it for an Alcad finish. Here is what I've done so far:

Hiya folks, would like to join in if I may.

I've got two prospectives, a B-25J (Revell boxing of the glass-nose kit) and the 'ole Me 262. As for building SOB or adding a buncha fixins, I never make my intentions known in the beginning because I never know what I intend to do... until I do it...

I'd also like to enter the the B-25 in the Medium and Heavy Bombers build, if it's deemed acceptable...

Great, definately put me down for the Typhoon. I'll be updating this one quite a bit, already have a PE set for it, and I'm going to run out and some resin goodies tomorrow, too. While your updating the list, you may as well add a ProModeller 1/48 Dog Sabre for me, too. I figure after all this work, I'm going to need something that goes together a bit easier.

woodbeck3- The Promodeler line is acceptable since it is a direct Monogram company, and a strictly Monogram kit. It would be fine for you to enter that instead of the stang, infact do the BF-110 instead of the stang, too many of them in the world if you ask me.

roadkill_275- Hey that is what we as modelers come up against with the Monogram kits, and the only thing we can do is ride it out. Hope your Thunderbolt come out great though. Best of luck.

dash8man- Shure you can enter in the build, a B-29 would be great to have, also I was wondering if you would interested in entering the Bomber Group Build in addition to this one, I dont think anyone is doing a B-29 and it would be a welcome addition to the build. I shuold hev you on this list by tommarrow morning when I update the members list on my to GB's.

NatOMac- I would encorage you to do so, since there is such a long period of time from start to finish in this build, one model just aint gonna cut it. Hey are you going to update it, I got a great update set for my Typhoon, it is all photoetched material, and it was only ten bucks at Als Hobby Shop. Its got a tone of things to add, but some of the conversions to get them to work with the kit are very hard to do because of Monogram oversimplifcation of there models.

sanderson_91- Sound like your taking this thing head on. Cant wait to see it when its done, never seen a compleated one before should be interesting.

Here's an update: I've started the the Ju87 by re-scribing the panel lines. I have the horizontal stabilizer and the lower wing re-scribed. I hope to finish the upper wings and fuselage by Sunday.

Just wondering if I could enter a second aircraft in this build, since my F-101 is coming along faster than I tought it would. If it's not too late, I'd like to add a 1/48 Typhoon. Hopefully that should keep me busy for a little longer :) Now I just have to find that camera...
