I have never used it with the testors putty, but I can't see why it wouldn't. I do know Squadrons putty is touline based. If the testors is also there should be no problem. Just be careful the fumes. Open a window or have a fan blowing then mix away then try on a piece of scrap.

Okay been gone two days. Have had computer problems ( 2 systems, 2 crashes in one day. A new record!!) Does the Acetone work on Testors Putty? (sorry all I got and can afford) I'm not going to worry too much about the seams in the wheel wells. They're not going to be visible once she's completed. I am going to make sure that the other seams are presentable. When I get this one finished, I'm going to shuffle my to do stack as the next one on the stack is an old combo kit that has the Do-335 and another stinkin P-47D Razorback!! Sorry, have had enough S & M this month.

Well I decided what the heck and putting a NMF back on my fort. Have the top side in Alclad primer black and man every peice of lint, dust and fingerprints form the guy across the street I never seen is on it, oh well. It doesnt look that good but thats ok...first kit in 15 years I wasnt expecting a show piece, just wanna get it done. Blew the canopy line on her and left many of the .50's off do to not wanting to mess with those junky hinges on it. They are in my new spaer parts box now. I covered the "glass parts in micromask but not liking what I see...might have a few (reads alot) painted over windows, but this was a great learning experience. Will have pics by saterday for ya all.

roadkill I have the same problem on my P-47 I manage to put Tamiya tape along the wheel well gap because it conforms better to the corrugated surface an then aply putty thinned with acetone.....let it dry at night and then sanded and scrapped with my hobby knife the gap dissapear and save the detail....next saturday i´m going to apply primer to see how it looks.....

One other thing you could try is. Take some putty straight out of the tube( I use Squdarons white putty) and put it on a mixing palate (I use an old Altoids tin). Place a few drops of fingernail polish remover(with acetone) on the putty and mix it up to a consistancy that will hold the side of the seams. This will thin the putty and makes it easier to work with. If you thin it enough you can actually put this stuff on with an old paintbrush.
Place the mixture in the gap and let it start to set up. If you see that sanding maybe needed you can take a q-tip dip it in the polish remover and run it over the putty. This will soften the putty and smooth it out to a point where sanding may not be needed at all and you won't loose any plastic in the process.
Just a word of warning though. This stuff will stink to high heaven so you may want to open a window. ( ask me how I know that one)
Just thought I'd throw that one out there in hopes to spark an idea for ya.

At the moment I'm hiding in another room so I dont have to see those seams. The ones on the fuselage were no problem and filled and sanded in a heartbeat, but those at the wing root are a different story. The worst one is the one in the wheel well and I can't quite figure out how to go about filling and sanding it, I've tried superglue, but the Monogram plastic is so soft that when you sand it you lose a lot of plastic and not enough superglue. I've lost several kits this way, including a P-38 that was sanded down to a scale thickness. I actually pushed my finger through that one. Any ways, I'll go back into my modeling room when the urge to bounce this one off the wall passes. Tell your son that he has my admiration!

kevin my son is working the 1/48 tbolt. i am cringing everytime he works on it because no matter what he has tried the seams are still there. the one time he had it done, he picked up the kit to do something there was an audable crack and the seam was back. you have my respect for working that kit. keep at it.

Have you tried using super glue on your seams? I have found that not only is it a good gap filler, but if you put a small amount of super glue in a gap and than hold the two parts together for a minute or two, than the seam no longer needs to be filled.

Been puttying the seams on my Tbolt. Haven't lost a lot of detail yet because I ran the thick masking tape on both sides of the seam and then puttied it. My problem is the fit of the wings are atrocious. No matter how I do it I wind up with a gap big enoug to put another Tbolt in. Ah well, I said I needed to hone my skills, just hope it doesn't turn out to disappointing.

Good guess nicodemus, it is the cockpit of a Bf-110 G-4/R-3 night fighter. I am planing on finishing it as an aircraft from NJG/101. Looking forward to everyones picts. Have fun!

Noticed this one a little late, but noticed the cut off is July 15th.

Would love to join if not too late. I have an old Monogram OA-4M in the pile that keeps looking at me. From behind the other kits.

This just may be the thing that gets me to pull it out and get something done with it. Plan to just go OOB with it, but hey plans do change... Wink [;)]

Put the B-17G on hold, want to open up the crew doors so I'm waiting on an order from Squadron. Eduard has the doors and the wing leading edge scoops along with some other odds and ends. It will be my first alclad paint project. Playing with a Hurricane while I wait on the postman......

Started detail-painting the cockpit for my AH-1 Cobra. Also added some brass mesh to the openings on the engine covers. I hope to get the fuselage build-up complete by this weekend. I'm also going to add the HSS Targeting system to the canopy, should be interesting (and a challenge).

So far my 110 is still going well, being a pro-modeler kit teh fit is at least decent and the panal lines are engraved, tahnk goodness! Some areas still don't fit all that well and need some filling, notably the back of the engine nasicals(sic) and the tail surface. My largest concern at this point is the pain scheme I have chosen. Its light blue (RLM 76) with a two tone gray mirror scheme over it. I'll try ot post some picts when that part is done. Good luck on your projest everyone!

Well I got my Fort buttuned up and sanding away. I used Tanex7 on mine but I musta got the blacksheep of that weeks molds or something. I am having a devel if a time sanding and keeping any of my raised panel lines. So... this is what I am gonna do, no more BMF because my sanding skills aren't sharp enough again yet so I am going od over lg, but leaving in that window waist gunners position because I have no way to mount the .50's. I just wanna finish this fort and get my skills going again. It will be my second build first completion in 15 years. I had set my expectancy way to high on this thing and doomed myself for failure. Not anymore, I chose a difficult kit in terms of fit to do this on and it has helped me tremendously, but it is not of the highest finish standards, but thats ok because I need to get the routine back before I wins shows again. Pics will be posted in the next 3 days. Thanks for letting me participate and making it so I wouldnt shelve it.

Got the fuselage closed up and ready for filling and sanding. As with any Monogram kit, if you'll take your time and line everything up and glue a little at a time and let capillary action take the glue between the parts, the filling will be kept to a mininum. Hows every one else doing? any progress?

A group build here means that a bunch of guys with similar interests are building similar projects at the same time. Advice and encouragement is shared and appreciated so get one of those old kits down off the stash and get on it!....and let us know how it's going.

Hey you guys sorry I havent been able to respond for about two days, have had alot going on, just bought the Monogram 1/48 Me262, A-26, and B-25H for about 20$ what a steel Big Smile [:D]

but I wont be able to start them for about a week. The reason? I am heading out of town and wont be back untill the 27th. So this means I cant post here for a week Sad [:(]

, But I am probably taking my P-51D with me so I can work on something. So this is my last post untill the 27th and I wanted to say bye to everyone. Oh and sorry for those of you that want me to edit the members list and put you down for a member but I may not have time.

Bare Metal is a good brand. I've been using the Testors stuff because that's all my LHS carries. The thing to remember when using foil is to be patient and take your time and to use small pieces. I usually use enough to cover a 4 inch by 4 inch area. Take your time and burnish from the center out. when you get to the seam where two pieces of foil overlap (you want them to overlap just a little) take your time and burnish the seam carefully and the seam will practically disappear. Did I mention that you need to take your time?

Thanks for the info, was looking at foil or maybe the SNJ powder mixed with future. I read about that in Swanny's Future article. For the foil, would Bare Metal be the way to go?

I have the interior finished...Although after about 4 hours on detailing the sides of the cockpit, I dry fitted the assembly together, and you can't see hardly anything!!! Oh, well, after not building for nearly 10 years, the practice was good...

My build is getting to be less irritating, think my old skills are finally sharpening up again. This will be my second build in 15 years, but first completed. Not shooting for the moon on this one, just thorough as I can. I have pics taken...will have them developed so I will have them in a week for you all to see...promise.
