yeah, i remember when i found my 5-year old out on the deck pulling pieces from the sprues of my 88 because she "wanted to make a bad-guy car for daddy"......

anyways, kids are kids. here are a few pics of my now stalled progress of my M-16. While I try and figger out my predicament, I'll start my figures.

Wished I could help you myself, but I do not have that kit. Wait until she brings you pieces of one of your models complete model. Mine brought me the tailfins from my Academy Su-27 to show me the pretty pictures. Hard to get mad at them, but luckily that was the only one broken (although I have another at 15 months who is very very bad)

I had a 3 year old put decals in the toilet once because she saw me put them in water. Aren't kids fun?? As far as downloads go, I don't believe you can get them from Tamiya. My suggestion is to post a request on the main board and if someone has them, they can either scan them or copy them for you

I definitely ask alot of questions here before I try anything new. I have ruined a couple of really nice paint jobs by trying new techniques.

Thanks for the comments re the whitewash.
I decided to try this method because of the temporary nature of it. i.e. if I got it wrong I could start again.
I built a skyraider, made a lovely job of it too, painted it in a combination of enamels and acrylics. I read somewhere you could spray laquer as a top coat prior to decals going on. Ooops big mistake. It made the paint ripple and peel. Sad [:(] so I had to strip it and then I lost the motivation to finish it. So its consigned to mothballs until I decide to have another go. So now I try to use what I know or trial on a disused kit.

I'd like to jump in with a Tamiya King Tiger.
Hopefully it will turn out okay and not make the GB look bad. Shy [8)]

Nothing wrong with old tech- easier on the wallet than buying them and less tedious than trying to sort through the 500 useless Google repsonses for that one helpful one

fiasco-thx for the tip on the 'white-wash'. that's a bit of info that will come in handy soon.

Picked up the Sherman M4A3 with the 105mm-now waiting for reference material from the local library-so old tech!

Bob

QUOTE: jwest, let me ask this.... i've tried winter washes before and they always are too thick or cover too much of the vehicle..... is there a trick? i heard that some tankers in the field would actually dip branches in white paint and wash their vehicles that way....

I had a go at a winter wash on an 88.

I painted the base coat and carried out normal weathering on that (dry-brushing + washes), then I made a mix of white pastel chalk dust and water. Slop it on, literally! You want it to look field applied so just get it on there!

Then take some blu-tak or putty-eraser and carefully remove the chalk from the areas you want to show wear on. A sort of reverse dry-brushing technique.

The beauty is if you take off too much, just slop more on.
If it goes horribly wrong, just rinse the chalk away with water.
When you've got it how you want it, seal with clear varnish.

btw I'm going to clear the decks to make a start on the C-47 tonight

Try rubbing a magnet against your carpet...you may just find your hinge.Wink [;)]

I have my figure ready to paint. That warrior figure is the stuff. Simply amazing detail. Not sure if it's historically accurate, but looks to match the uniforms in the Band Of Brothers. My jeep is nearing completion. I used almost all of Aber's PE. I think there's more brass than plastic on this one. I will try and post pics tonight.
