Well, here it is without my Figgy. It's not as good as I would have hoped, but nothing ever is. It's not too late for changes, so let me know if there's something I can fix without too much fuss. I think I will title it "Before the Storm". Let me know.

Well, I have decided to drop the jeep from my dio. I can't make it fit and I don't want to start over, so, I have changed my mind yet again. I am very happy with the dio so far and should have it finished this weekend.

I am planting bushes on it right now, and will post some pics later.

I asked for it for Christmas. In my own twisted mind, it's like getting it for free (even thought my wife will get it with the money I bring home)

Jason, Go to hometown hobbies. They are the cheapest. You will never regret it. I don't know how you could form fenders without it, not to mention the myriad of other items required. Plus it's a really cool anodized OD color.

I used to curse PE until I bought an etch mate. One of the best bits of kit I've ever bought

Jason, at first I was very frustrated. Then Moses filled in some gaps for me and then it became ok. There are times though, as with anything, that I want to throw the stupid model through the wall!!!

Ted, you might be the first person to ever admit that PE is "relaxing"!!!

I thought you may have used the plaster technique. I haven't done this, but seems to look good if you can do it right. And I have a hard time doing things right!!

Either way, you are going to have a very good dio. I would like to see pics of your jeep. Are you using the Tamiya kit. If so, isn't it super? I added way too much PE on mine for a dio with a bunch of snow, but I tend to build just to build and I really like the PE stuff. Relaxes me.

ted, i haven't used anything for dirt or snow yet, that is just the hardened clay..... actually for snow, i learned a tip to use baking soda... it doesn't yellow like other things that people use..... i'm waiting to get my trees and build up the back end with the M16 and Jeep before I put in the dirt and snow and debris...........

thanks for the compliments!

hey looks good so far. One thing i might add is that the back of the carrige for the 105mm looks kinda like its floating on top of the snow. I suggest pressing it into your snow, or build up some snow around it.

cant wait to see it finished.

how I did what? the figure? just a small small brush, that's about it..... I only used the fig's upper half and glued him to the board before I build the pit around him.......

figures are usually my weakness and I have a few more yet to go......... Black Eye [B)]

this is the start of my bulge dio.... i have the front half of the terrain built up, with a small ridge and a rifleman in a pit....... on the other side i'm going to put a couple of mortar tubes.... I have about 8 more guys(resin and plastic) that i'm going to put in. I haven't added the dirt and snow and all yet because the back isn't yet built up..... The back is where i'm going to put the M16AA with a Willys and a line of trees..... (I have yet to find the right trees to use)........... SO IT IS COMING RIGHT ALONG..........

Sorry, the first picture is a little blurry........

Rumblepuppy,
if you scroll back a few pages you'll see I posted my experiences of using chalk/water washes. There's a picture of an 88 in there too to show how it turned out.
Make sure you use artists pastels but not the oil based type.

I've got a question for you all. A few months ago finescale ran an article on how to winterwash your tanks using water and chalk pastels. Sorry I can't give the issue, my collection isn't close at hand right now.
Has anyone tried this technique? I started once following the directions but evidently I had the wrong kind of chalk because it didn't turn into a milk consistency. If anyone has tried this with success please tell me, I want to know what brand of chalk you used. Thanks.

Yeah, just drip it on the back of your lexan and then iron it flat. I am still waiting to see the final results. The PVA glue is taking forever to dry.
