AIRCRAFT - Mustang Ranch... P-51 Group Build--ends 12/31/04

I'd like to get in on this...

Already doing the Monogram "Big Beautiful Doll" for that build, but will be getting either an AM or Tamiya Stang for this one... Enough headaches with the Mono kit...

Wolf put me down, Im lucky I bought The Tamiya 1/48 bird from the hobby lobby last week before Saltydog came through and bought out the store.

So I goes to the shelf and pull down one of my Tamiya P-51B's and WOOHOO !, there's a Jaguar resin interior and some AM decals in there that I forgot I had.

Why didn't you let me know I had these things Steve?

Let's see. I've got the AM A-36. ICM's B/C (2) and a Revell "big beatiful doll' all on the 'to do' list. I'm in with hope of using all of the experience available. I plan to stick close to the OOB attitude with only doing some minor detailing. I like the look of an intricately detailed cockpit, but when you close them up in this scale, only you know what you've done. Trying to explain the detail work to non-modeling friends casues their eyes to glaze over. Looking forward to putting more 51's for a Tuskegee Airman dio.
Does anyone know where to find decals for "By Request"?

I gots me a filly I'd like to toss in the ring (AM -1/48- P51A) - been sittin' taking up room for a couple of years. I'd like it to take up other shelf space tho.......

Right now I have two Tamiya P-51B's in the corral, and maybe another kit as well; haven't decided yet.

By the way, I changed/added some of the classifications in the 'Legend'; I totally forgot about the P-51H! Of course, it's definitely not my favorite variant of the Mustang, so it's no wonder I forgot about it...

Anyhoo, glad to see that we have a good selection of the available kits entered in this here GB, with three different scales and most of the variants being covered.

Also, even though I'm an ETO kinda fella, it's good to see someone doing Stangs from the PTO & CBI. (Model Grandpa & TimL, respectively.) Those TO's seem to remain largely overlooked by many folks who build Mustangs...

We even have an F-6 in the mix! No P-51 or P-51A*, though... Other than those, all we're really missing is one of those 24th beasts...

*I think I know what my third Stang might be now...

OK Steve-O Yea got me!! That little 1/32 Hasawega P-51D kit I mentioned I started during my vacation and lost the OOB headrest. Well, I have since bought and received in the mail from squadron a resin interior kit, resin flat'nd tire, and an AM decal set (it came as "checkered tailed") but I wanted to do a "yellow nose" version. I'm leaning towards the "Miss Detroit".

Count me in Dude as a solid YES.

And If you want I have an AM 1/48 P-51A kit on the shelf. But I was saving that one for a little while yet.

I have a Stallion out in the barn that is a lil jealous of the Colt..!!! So there might be a Stallion in the running as well ....!!!!!

Since your letting started kits be part of the build this will be good motivation to finish my 1/48 Hasegawa P-51K. I will be building (finishing) it straight out of the box with aftermarket decal representing "Sunshine" piloted by Lt. Col. Bill Banks of the 348th FG, 5 AF.

I just picked up a Tamiya 1:48 P-51 B, and a set of Aeromaster Decals for "Tex" Hill's ride "Bullfrog" while CO of the 23rd FG in China. So count me in. Great Idea

Ok Steve-O... I'm sure I can make that deadline... please put me down for a mare or stallion (not sure which one it is). I'll be building the Tamiya 72nd P-51D. Sounds like this'll be the rootenist, tootenist GB in all these here parts!!!

I myself have no problem with images being posted in this thread. I think there was concern in other GB threads that alotta images might make it a PITA to look through and that links to images would be more desirable, but I'm not sure on that; I haven't really participated in many GB's up 'til now.

Anyhoo, if that was the case with some of the other GB threads, then links to images would be cool.

But I reckon I like'ta see them-thar pitchers pop up magic-like in furnt'a ma eyes...

Man do I want to join this one...but I have 5 kits to build in 4 other GBs.... I do plan on building the Tamiya Colt kit you sent me last summer in Tuskegee colors, but I am not sure I can get them done by the end of 2004...I sure would like to try though- so put me down. What the hay...

i will do Accurate Min. F-6B in 1/48 scale SOB.

OK, I can make the end of 2004 end date so count me in. I'll do a Tamiya P-51D with markings for "Detroit Miss". Probably use some AM PE & Resin on this build.

You can put my name down for a filly. I've got a half complete Accurate miniatures A-36 Apache that I've been working on. I've just been waiting for some flat coat for it, and I got that today so it's under way again. It's being built OOB with the kit decals.

One question though, can pictures of completed models be posted in this thread or in a seperate one?

Okay, we've got a buncha varmints folks who'd like to do this...

As you may have noticed, I've started the list of those who have given a definite YES to taking part. Those who were unsure, I left off for now.


Here's THE rule:

1) The kit or kits must be finished by the end of 2004.

That's it. Doesn't matter what scale or manufacturer. If it's a P-51 Mustang of any variant, including the A-36 Apache, then it's eligible. I suppose even the Enforcer would be alright, but the P-82 Twin Mustang is not eligible at this time...

You can build it SOB (straight-outta-da-box) or you can drop all the resin and brass fixins you want into the kit(s). Do what you want...

If you've already started a kit, that's fine. The idea for this GB came to me because there were several folks who were working on Stangs or about to start or thinking about it.

If you've expressed interest, are not currently on the list, and have decided that you do want to participate, please ask me to add your name.

If you've been put on the list and want to be removed for whatever reason, please ask.

Also, please let me know which kit you intend to build and if you intend to build more than one so that I can add it to the list as well.

Upon completion of your model Once you have been added to the list, feel free to use the official Mustang Ranch 2004 GB badge in your sig or anywhere else on this forum. You can find the badge in the first post in this thread, BUT...

I ask that if you are able, please host the image yourself. If you don't know how to host or how to post an image, just ask and I or someone else will explain.

Hmmm... I'd like to jump in on this. I've got a 'stang all ready to be started... problem is the other two group builds that I joined I didn't even get the kit started. I'll think about it when I see the finish date.... I just don't want to say I'm in and then not be able to get the kit done. It is very tempting though.

although i didnt start the thread i would say for this one all you need is a p-51 kit and the want to do it.
