cool. ive been donw there. the model shop situation in those parts is sad tho. i was lookin thro the phone books last time is was down there, and there were more flower shops than model shops. that surprised me. thought building would have been more popular in those cramped parts.

NEway, yeah...

wow, that surprised you? We only have one hobby shop in the entire county, it sucks!

I looked for th NY Ipms, And I found NOREASTCON but it had no website. I also FOund something in Rochester. Go to the main IPMS page and then click events.

Double D, Congratulations! Sounds like this kit is the worst one you've built, that true?

Near where I live it ain't too bad. I've got around 9 or 10 withing 20 miles of me. But if I want aftermarket stuff my only place is a store called Alsand's Toy soldiers. I get most of my stuff from online as many of these hobby shops are too far to get to on a spur of the moment decision...

Progress Report: um, I got the P-38 fully painted. I just have to wait for a few days to make sure it's absolutely dry. Then I'm going to add a coat of future and add the decals. So, I suppose 1'm about 90% finish. Yay! Big Smile [:D]

Jeez, wait a few days for paint to dry? You have that much patience?! I usually airbrush in the morning, and come back to it 12 hours later and that's it, time for the future. But if I don't have any time in the evening, it gets like 30 hours drying time, but that's really it. Maybe that's why my painting jobs suck...

Lol, I’m usually impatient but lately for some reason I’ve been very patient with this kit at least for now. Evil [}:)] hehehe...

I’m just curious but what do you guys read on your spare time. Lately I’ve been getting into science fiction, mostly space. Any science fiction readers here?

9-10? wow, you're doin pretty good man. that ain't bad. ive got one 15 min away, and another about 30 min. there's more but these are the only ones worth going to.

reb, we've got several NY ipms groups round here. there's mine in Buffalo, another in Syracuse, and a couple more round the state. the one in Rochester isn't directly part of ipms, their something called the historical modeling something-or-other. one other thing, the only reason the numbers in NY surprised me is that its got like a couple million people there. you'd think there'd be a higher percentage of modlers in that area.

wooverstone- im not that much into Sci-fi. mostly i read military historical stuff. for the past few months ive been on ernie pyle's Brave Men. its takne that long cuz ive had no time.

rebel- this is THE worst kit i had ever worked on!! it looks awesome now!! the wildcat is all painted, and weathered all i need is to scratchbuild that canopy, but decals and touch up on some paint! the zero is comin along great!!! it is by far a better kit than the wildcat (im kinda sad it has to be the one thats losing in the dio that i want to make outta them which ill prob never get to) the zero i together, green painted on, eng. cowling painted, TWO MORE DAYS LIKE THIS AND ILL HAVE IT DONE!!

my closest hobby shop is 15 mins away, its a small room that has a huge mountain of models all around the walls a huge isle and a small paint stand, THATS IT!! no PE!! or AM!!

i just got into reading in my spare time, @ nite, i read this book called ANTIMATTER its pretty good and scare with the billionth of a gram of antimatter can vaporize a human.... but now im reading THE SECOND WORLD WAR a complete history....idk why!! im at the invasion of France now....its 737 pgs so itll take me awile.

AND... I am not box stock..... i do do box stock things under conditions, i do scratchbuild, i have done PE, no AM no kit bashing (i feel its a waste to buy 2 kits just to make one....thats just me......cheap. I am planning on building a completly scratched hot rod (just buy the engine and get some wheels)

And whe Im interested in something (like a tank) I will research it alot before i build it. That usually includes alot of reading.

yep, i'm alive.

we got a second go at harvest so that kept me busy for a week or so. then I had deer season, until i filled out on monday. then i had to do a few things that had been piling up on me. but now I'm in the clear. (unless i get called to go help treat calves........)

I'm leaning toward the t-34/85 right now, I saw a great picture of one captured in Korea, that I want to duplicate.

about the rank, I have done some scratchbuild, but never more that about 30% of the model. I just got to this rank through a love for this forum. my posting petered out when I got a full time job last April. that ended at harvest when I went to work on the farm, but now thats done, and the whole winter is ahead of me!!

i just read Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell (one of the best books ever- i suggest to everyone to read it) and God's Debris A thought Experiment by Scott Adams (wonderful, read it too) Big Smile [:D]
kinda pointless post, but what the heckWink [;)]

Hey that’s a good-looking model you got there! How long did it take you build it and what paint did you use?

I probably started it in early October (I cant remember) and finished the assembling in about 2 days, maybe 3hrs of work. then I painted it with Tamiya Dark Green and post shaded it with tamiya Black. The I gave it a coat of Future, and Oil wash Decals, and then a dullcoat and drybrushing. I must say this is by far one of my favorite models. It going to go into a dio as soon as I order some figs.

oh, and the tracks were painted MM gunmetal, and the drybrushed with testors Alluminum and Rust.

Hey, how do you use the post shading technique? What effect is it trying to replicate?

I haven't done a progress check for a few days but there hasn’t been much to do on the model, so here's one now…

Proress report: added a coat of future to the p-38 -- looks quite nice. (This is my first time ever using future on a model and I really like the results I got).

thanks for the kind words guys.
To post shade I mix up a 50/50 mixture of black, then I turn my nozzel on my airbrush to a pretty fine touch. I then lighty spray all of the rased and recesed detail. THe effect it is symbolizing is well, shade. It really adds a nice touch to your models and gives it a really good sense of depth.
