looking good mark Smile [:)]

i was also quite perturbed by the lack of weapons in the hasegawa kits. seems like its a good way for them to make extra money by selling their weapons packs, but its also a good way to p*ss me off Sad [:(]

I thought I might show some of my work. This is the 1/48 Hasegawa F-16A+ with Arizona ANG markings. The seat is True Details and the cluster bombs are from a Hase weapons kit.

no kidding Mark- I hate doing that surgery too and that is why I am doing mine a different way. I think i may have found an inexpensive carrier base so I'll see what I can get up to over the holidays on research and photos. I hate when Hasegawa does that on the weps kits... I have an older 1/72 F-18 still in box that only has 2 drop tanks, NO sidewinders!!!! Probably why it's still in the box.
Daniel, it's impossible to not want to modify!!! This Academy kit looks so good I am making changes on a daily basis. Luckily, I have a pretty deep spares box that I can hit for ideas. Seeing your work on the Nav Av GB- I can't wait to see what your tomcat looks like!

The Hase Cat comes with the kneeled front leg and separate flaps and slats. It even has the option of the very early wing glove vanes. I wish more kits came that way. Doing the surgery to drop the flight controls and all is such a huge pain. Another drawback on this kit is no weapons. Just a TARPS pod. May have to find a 1/72 Hase weapons set. Most of their kits have no weapons any more. Boohoo [BH]Censored [censored]

Now you've all gone and goy me interested in modifying my cat. The dropped flaps and kneeling landing gear sounds fun, but it would mean I'd need a carrier base. I'll have a look at it again and decide if I am capable of such surgery. Thanks for the inspiration lads (I think).

I'll be doing mine basically OOB but with AM decals. One will be done parked with wings back and canopy closed and the other I'm thinking of doing ready for take-off with a full load of weapons.

I like how that Has 'Cat is sounding, Mark. Does it come with the kneeling front gear and seperate flaps/slats or are you going to have to do some surgery? I am doing my 1/48 Academy 'Cat wings full back, canopy open heading up the elevator. Prob no weps on her with a full load on the cart. Maybe. To really make it look right I will have to buy the carrier base and modify it or... scratchbuild it myself. It all depends on how much something like that will cost. That RM F-15E is a great kit by the way... sounds good with the 'Gipper' decals and the Eduard PE.

I have had bad luck with the Academy decals. I use AM decals on about 90% of my aircraft. I am going to build the 1/72 Hasegawa kit with wings out, flaps/slats down and in the kneeling position. Lots of stuff to look at that way. I may pound out my 1/48 RM F-15E this month. I am going to have some extra time off. Use the Eduard photo etch and the Two Bobs 'One More Time for the Gipper' decals. It will be sweet.

I am so ready to fly I picked up my Academy Cat today its an awsome looking kit I wasn't to happy with the lack of detail in the pit but Ill survive. I can't aford to do aftermarket stuff right now so Ill build this one OOB and the next one I do ill do aftermarket.

Yeah, I've got the academy cat. The decals can't be to bad because I have one sitting here that I built about 10 years ago and the decals are all still stuck down nicely. And I applied them on a matte finish. I really only wanted to use other decals because I don't really like the scheme, and Academy decals don't have the best track record anyway.

Reggie-Try Verlinden. I think they make display bases in 1/48. There may be others out there but thats all I can think of for now.

As for my Tomcat, I think it's gonna be a pretty much OOB affair. I might do some scratchbuilding in the cockpit and other areas, but I can't really afford a resin pit. I want to get some other decals though, I don't really like the kit scheme. Can't wait to start, not long now though.

I don't blame you. I try to keep my builds fairly spaced out- it takes me 3-4 months to finish a kit anyways. I say this as I have 3 kits in mid-build. I was so excited to have them I tackled them all at once. Big mistake- they will have to wait until after the Tomcat GB to get done. I did receive Aires Resin Seats and the Bombcat Resin Conversion kit from Squadron Friday. This conversion kit looks oh so fine. These seats are the best I have seen yet- can't wait to get paint on 'em. Originally the conversion kit was for Monogram's F-14A, but I emailed Mackey Sue over at Squadron and she was told it should fit the Academy kit even better. This is good. I have decided to build the RM kit along side. Only problem is- it appears to be a good kit except for one thing: raised panel lines. I'll have to sand and scribe. In order to use my weathering technique I have to have engraved panel lines. Might need to add another month to the GB run time. Now I am rambling...I'm itching to start this build!!!!

I may do the same thing. But I have several IPMS reviews to get done. 2 German armour, a photo etch set for the RM F-15E, Decals for sa 1/48 P-61 and a F-86. I will more than likely take a break from this review stuff for a while after I get all this done.Big Smile [:D]Tongue [:P]

Well guys I couldn't wait for January so I got out one of the Academy 1/72 F14s from the shelf and started building!Big Smile [:D] I'll be finishing it as either VF-32 or VF-21 Desert Sheild/ Desert Storm black-tailed CAG.Thumbs Up [tup] This one won't be one of my GB builds but it'll help cure some of the itch I've got for building a Tomcat.

jeez, I gotta say Atlantic City sucks. It was dirty and trash was all over the place. I would love to start this build now- but January is close.

ah, Jersey- I was in Atlantic City on business a month ago. The hotel workers were on strike so it made the stay a real 'trip'.
