                        Thanks for the help bstrump. Much clearer on the actual site.

                        Another question, where do you draw the line between bottom and side? I realise thats quite an ignorant question but this will be the first F-14 that I will attempt to paint.

                        The honeymoon is over and it's back to normal. Hope everyone is well and the kits are coming along. Looks like this weekend I'll be able to get back to the F-14. First time in a month! First, I have to go to work... bummer!

                        This seems to vary plane by plane but generally the "side" is only the forward fuselage from just above the gear doors. This line extends from the tip of the radome straight back to the intakes. Some have the engines/intakes painted Dark Ghost Gray as well with just the tunnel in between, the wings and the bottom of the nose painted light gray. My VF-11 CAG bird was like that. As usual, you need to check references.

                        That's a beautiful cat you have produced there Sentry. Great work Thumbs Up [tup].

                        I finally pulled my cat back out of it's box yesterday, still got a long way to go, but I reckon I can finish it by August 1st. I've got the front section all glued up and filled, just needs a sand and a re-scribe. After I get the lower fuselage on, it won't be long til I can finally paint the thing.

                        With the DSL service finally up and running I can now post images. To summarize this is Fujimi's 72nd scale F-14A Tomcat, this build will depict VF-41 Black Aces 101, as it appeared aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt during the first Gulf War, 1991. Last post was just as I had completed the gloss stage. At this point the decals and semi-gloss has been applied.

                        Getting the images to my host site was rather time consuming so a more detailed report with images will be submitted tomorrow. Almost done.

                        Nice to be up and running again. Nice Black Night Tomcat there Sentry.
                        Nice to see y'all again.

                        Lot's of images taken. So I hope y'all ready to see them.

                        Hey fellas- well, here is my tiny little update: I got the leading edges of the wings airbrushed as well as the area under the forward edge of the intakes. I am thinking in the next few weeks I am going to break open the 1/32 Tomcat and get it going. This one will be a superdetail job. I bought a heck of a lot of wires and aluminum tubing for the gear and gear wells.

                        With this cat finally nearing completion. Just completed the decal and final clear coat stage. Now to install the landing gear, droptanks, tailhook and the missiles. This cat will be configured with 4 AIM 9L's and a pair of AIM-54C's as it appeared at this point of time during the Gulf War.

                        Using a Red Felt tip marker to edge the gear doors. A tip someone had mentioned I believe in FSM. Great idea, a time saver and much easier to do without making a mess.

                        Nose gear and doors installed.

                        Nose wheels are painted and installed. Also a wash of Burnt Umbar to high light the details and dirty up the bays. A mixture of Flat Black and Burnt Umbar is used to paint the tires.

                        LH side strut and doors installed.

                        RH side main strut view.

                        More images to follow.

                        Sorry I have been absent for a while. The computer caught a virus and I had to blow out the entire operating system. I up now. The strip job is close. Just the creases and crevises to get but I was in Southern California for a week so the build took a break. All of the builds look great.

                        Hi everyone. A few weeks back I posted photos of my FOUR F-14 models, two were bought by my boss, one was a commission build for him.

                        Not any longer...I was down-sized from that job this past week, and he simply said "don't worry about the model kit, keep it". Well, that's kind of him.

                        As for losing my job, it's only temporary. Today I received an offer from a company for a position doing what I have experience doing, utilizing my degree, and paying substantially more than I was being paid. I had been selling copper wire, which really didn't draw from my technical background or my B.S. in mechanical engineering.

                        So, as for the F-14D that I was building for the boss, I'm kinda in a quandary. I have the forward fuselage assembled, WITHOUT the gear bay, and the doors glued into the "closed" position - he wanted it displayed "in flight".

                        I'm thinking I can buy Aires wheel well set, anyone got experience with these?

                        Got a little closer in completing this cat over the weekend. Here we have the main wheels and drop tanks installed.

                        An image before I install the ordnance and horizontal tails.


                        VF-41 at this point of the war were configured with a 4 Sidewinder, 2 Phoenix loadout while flying CAP missions. Missiles were painted glossy Ghost Grey 16375, the Sidewinders with a Gun Metal warhead. The AIM-54C's had Flat White nose cones. Using the set of missiles from the Fujimi kit and an extra set of Sidewinders from the Hasegawa weapons set. The extra set of AIM-9 missile rails was courtesy of the Academy F-14A kit.

                        Also added RBF tags on the Sidewinders. Don't get to see this configuration to often.

                        With the missiles now installed we can now work on the details on the topside of the aircraft which includes the PE bits on the canopy, install the seats and control sticks.

                        I will pose this with the canopy open. I will need to carefully pop the step panel off the nose so I can install the step ladder.

                        This Tomcat is about done.

                        Mitch: Congrats on the offer! And in your chosen field, too. As for the Aires sets, I don't have experience with these in particular but I'm pretty sure they'll be like most resin sets. Lots of fiddlin' around to get them to fit properly.

                        Guys, your either going to love me or hate me but I am 'throwing in the towel'...
                        I have so much going on right now that kit time has become rare, indeed.
                        I am shelving this baby for at least 6 months. I REALLY want to start on this Revell Tomcat and get some super-detailing done. I have had ants in the pants to start on it for 2 months now, since I got it. If you haven't guessed by now I am ADD. Plus, I am tired of this Academy kit. It is 85% done and I'll post the pics to prove it but I just HAVE to put it away for a while. I hope to start on the 'other' lady mid next month if all goes well. I know most of us have been guilty of this in the past!
                        Anyways, I'll still oversee this GB. Luckily, at work I have the ability to check out all of your progress.
                        I'm glad Mitch is back!! Especially with a new job and a free kit from his former employer. Lets see some of that talent you got back in action! We all remember what you were putting out last time.
                        I guess that's all for now. I have to start getting prepared for my new brother-in-law's wedding in July and and good friends in August.
                        But you bet I'll be in Atlanta for Nats!!!!! Not competing, unfortunately- but I'll be there with my drool rag...

                        hi everyone, sorry i havent checked in here for a really really really long time. life has caught up with me and just as i got myself set up with a compressor and a 155, all sorts of other commitments popped up. mostly my own damn fault cos i been fooling around at school and my grades took a nosedive. sigh. the next thing i knew, all my modelling stuff found its way into my cupboard and its still there Sad [:(] i havent done any work on my cat and at the rate things are going now, it looks like i wont be able to sniff glue fumes till the winter Sad [:(] im still a modeller , but not right now. im afraid i have to pull out of this GB.

Life sometimes takes control and we are just here for the ride. I am going to try to get the stripping done on my Tom this weekend. I have shot the Blue Angel A-4 with paint and it is ready for decals. August 1 will be here quick and we might be ready.
